  1. I would try a synthetic hard sealant like Klasse High Gloss Sealant Glaze or Griot's Garage Paint Sealant. It only needs to be applied one or two times per year, and it should make it a little easier to get the bugs off. If you want to go for full protection and shine, do like I do and apply the Sealant, let it haze, remove it, let it cure for a day, then go back and lay a carnauba wax over it for deep shine.

Perfect advice. My sealant of choice is Menzerna FMJ. I'll add to your advice and recommend picking up a Quick Detailer like Poorboys Spray & Wipe. A QD like this has lubricants in it and can be used on an unclean paint surface without harming your paint. It would come in handy for removing bugs, bird bombs, etc.

  2. I've asked the salesman (twice) to make sure the bracket is left off. He said they would...but if Ford installed them, it was out of his control.

After spying a '11 Edge w/bracket in the dealer's back lot, I'm concerned that they are screwing brackets into the grills

Yeah, they are definitely screwing it into the grille. I still have the Limited in my driveway that I have had for the last two days and there is no question that they drilled holes to put it on. I've always take the bracket off myself and install colour matched bumper plugs, but I am not sure they make them in chrome. Also, from I understood, it's the dealer that installs these, not the factory.

  3. I would certainly think that if you live in a state that does require a front plate, you could ask the dealer not to install the bracket. Given that it's not illegal where you live, I don't see why it would be an issue for them. I live in a province that requires a front plate, but I am still going to ask the dealership to not install the bracket. Not sure what they'll say though.

  4. I currently drive an 2004 Volvo XC90. I was so excited to get it too and thought it would last at least 150K miles. Ha!

Good thing we had an extended warranty. Now at 120K my husband won't even let me take it out of town...he is afraid

    I'll have road trouble. :stop:

I have not bought an American car since my 1976 Ford Mustang was re-called 3 times for engine block replacement. But we liked

the fact that Ford did not take any government money AND all the new technology on the Edge. We are ready to give Ford another try. :yup:

Similiar story as myself. The last domestic vehicle I owned was a POS 1986 Mustang. I've been an import guy ever since, but have been very impressed with the new Edge and will also give for another shot. :)

  5. Can anybody direct me to anything official that says nav can be added at any time if the Edge has My Ford Touch? I would like to throw it back at the salesman. I could be driving my Edge by now but have to wait about 6 more weeks.

I can provide you the Canadian part number on Wednesday when I go back to the dealer if you want. If you are in the US, I am not sure if the part numbers are the same though.

  6. My dealer gave me a Tuxedo Black Limited this morning and I get to to keep it until Wednesday. I spent the entire day driving it and getting acquainted with MyFord Touch. I will be going back into the dealer on Wednesday when I return the vehicle and place my order. I am definitely sold on the new Edge! :)

  7. I ordered the 8oz. Wheel Sealant plus three foam wax applicator pads (don't want to use my nice orbital pads for the wheels). What's your application process for the Sealant?

Good stuff, I am sure you will really like the stuff. Regarding the application, I apply the wheel sealants with a slightly damp foam applicator. Let dry to a haze and wipe of with an MF towel. :)

  8. Thanks Canuck! I'll be hand washing and drying of course. Then I'll Clay the paint (already clayed the glass) and polish any swirls and toweling marks out with Griot's Machine Polish 3 and my 6" and 3" Griot's Random Orbitals. I have a Pre-Wax Cleanser that removes any old wax and leftover polish. From there I'll use Griot's Paint Sealant, let it cure for a day and finish up with a coat of Best-Of-Show wax for the shine. All the obvious stuff is already done, seats cleaned and conditioned, tires dressed (of course I'll have to re-do that). The only thing I don't have that I want to do is wheel glaze. These wheels are so nice that I have to get protectant on them and I don't trust paint wax on them.

Good stuff, it's nice to see others with solid detailing practices!! B)

As for your wheels (and I completely agree that they are sweet), I would recommend either Poorboys World Wheel Sealant or Wheel Wax. Both are equally top notch wheel sealants, but I would give a slight nod to the Poorboys for ease of use.

  10. Congrats and welcome. My limited is on it's way. I can't wait to get to drive it. Post pictures of your new "baby".

Thanks for the warm welcome choff and wilsons. I'll update tomorrow when I know more but I am pretty excited to nail down a deal on the new Edge. Btw, if any current owner has pics of their new White Platinum Edge, please post them up! :)

  11. Well, I am pretty close to pulling the trigger on a new White Platinum Edge Limited. I will find out more tomorrow, but I am pretty excited to be come a potential new Edge owner. I've always been an import guy, and quite frankly, never figured I would consider a Ford even just a couple of years ago. After I test drove the new Edge, I was thoroughly impressed and basically blown away. Anyways, hopefully I will be amongst the other 2011 Edge owners soon! :hyper:
