  1. Just got an Iphone4 and have the following issues:

1.- Can't play music from Iphone when connected via USB. MFT says "Indexing Device". Never had this issue with my standard Ipod. When I plug my Ipod in it is immediately accessible/browseable through MFT.

2.- Music will play from Iphone Bluetoooth, but does not allow to browse the device.

I have MFT V2.11. I have tried setting the indexing of the Bluetooth device to On and Off without any impact.

Is this normal for the Iphone4?

  2. Page 47 of my owner's manual shows the speed compensated audio feature that I've been using since day 1...

    Audio settings

To make adjustments to the sound settings, press MENU > Audio

    Settings to access:

    • Spd. Comp. Vol.: Scroll to select Speed Compensated Volume and

press OK to enter the menu. This feature automatically adjusts the

system’s volume to compensate for speed and wind noise. You can set

the system between off and +7. Press OK to confirm and close.

Guess I miss-understood a previous post. It sounded like there was a new option in 2.11. As you state, the speed compensated volume has been there since day 1.

  3. Just finished the update. Took I'd say about 45 minutes at least to finish.

I've noticed some nice differences so far. Seems that the Nav System is much more responsive for one (just for that I'd say it's a success), and I've noticed a new sound option that I've not fiddled with just yet (something to do with volume to compensate for road noise if I'm reading it correctly). I'm sure there are a lot of other changes that I'll learn about as I dig in further.

Under which menu is this new sound option? I have terrible issues with road noise coming through the hands-free on the other side.

  4. I have a Limited with Nav, first car for me with built-in navigation. My system is upgraded to version 2.11. Also have various TomTom models, most recently purchased a 550TM for my wife's car.

    To summarize: This Nav sucks!

1.- It takes way too long to boot up and accuracy is rediculous. When you plan a route before it has a good fix it will put you in the middle of nowhere and sometimes takes 15+ minutes to show you back on the right road. In general it seems to be over 100ft off when approaching intersections.

    2.- UI is poor.

3.- Software is plain stupid. When trying to navigate to a POI it will list them in order of distance from your current location instead of the city you just defined. Try finding Target 50 miles away when its burried in a list of 30 Target stores with no indication of what city they are in.

4.- I keep getting Nav errors

5.- Traffic info is mostly useless since it only shows an incident, but not the expected delay. My TomTom550 will give an indication of the delay time and the traffic info is free.

6.- MFT seems to shut down at the most in-oportune moments.

7.- Voice interface does not recognize half the stuff I say.

    8.- etc., etc., etc.

What I just don't get: there are many good stand-alone nav systems out there for not much money. How come the car companies can't integrate one of these very good systems and instead create their own junk and charge a lot of money.

I don't go anywhere without my Tomtom.

  5. Where do I sign up? Soooo tired of the constant issues that seem to get worse until the next software upgrade comes along.

Just last week I had 2 complete shut-down/reboots. Took over 5 min to come back up and of course the conferance call I was in got disconnected. Also 2 Nav SD card errors, 6 times when it told me that my Ipod was disconnected and the continued terrible background noise in the BT connection.

I'm on 2.8 and my car was built in 9/2010.

I would take my 2007 Mazda CX-9 back anytime...

  6. By chance, does anyone have a picture of the latest "Digital" WeatherTech mats, particularly for the driver's area? I would also like to see how the Husky brand covers the driver's area as well. If your picture(s) are of a 2011 Edge, bonus points for you! I am on the fence between the WeatherTech and Husky floor mats (for the front and second row seats as well as the cargo area). I know that both are excellent products, but I only want to make this purchase once and not have any "regrets" after the fact for some small detail.

    THANKS!

What detail would you like to see. They look just like the pics on the Weathertech website. I really like them. So much better than stock all-weather mats. If I was to change one thing I would make it a bit longer for the driver's left foot.

  7. I have two questions:

Do I need to subscribe to Sirius travel-link in order to get traffic conditions?

Has anyone else had trouble with verbal commands to get to Sirius channels since they re-set their channel line-up with XM Radio?

1.- You can subscribe to Sirius Traffic separate from the other travel link options.

2.- Yes. I thought I read that there was a user instll update available, but it has not shown up in my Syncmyride.

  8. I drove from Kansas to Indy last weekend. KS is in central time and Indy in Eastern time. The nav ETA was correct. It was giving me the local time of my destination for my ETA.

Is the time of travel correct on your nav display (ie the 4" screen)?

Are you changing time zones in your trip?

Travel time is correct. Usually less than 1 hour.

    No change in time zones.

This morning it seems to have fixed itself. ??? Of course, now the Sirius Radio is actiong up. Go figure...

  9. Did you turn daylight savings time on? I dont think it automatically adjusts for that.

I checked all the settings and they seem to be correct.

Mine is also off by >50 ft. Also tends to get lost if a route is planned while it does not have a good GPS fix yet. I've had it be off by >1 mile and when the signal came back it located me on the nearest road which happend to run paralell to the road I was actually on.

  10. They've aligned it 6 times so far and although everything is in spec, it still drifts to the right. The General Manager of my Ford Dealership is really great though and had a Ford Engineer come out on Friday. He spent the day working on it with 2 Master Techs. Apparently the TSB is very time consuming because it moves the sub-assembly 1mm at a time, then they have to torque the bolts, re-align it and then drive it. It's getting better, but it still drifts to the right. They are bringing a new Edge to my house next Tuesday so they can take mine back to the shop and continue working on it with the Ford Engineer until it's perfect. I must say that the General Manager has made the experience as good as it can be although it's still drifting to the right, I know they will get it fixed. Also, every time I get my car back they top it off with gas. :-) I guess it's a small price for our hassle, but I think I've only put gas in it myself twice.

Everytime I bring it in, they give me a different 2011 Edge to drive and all but 1 of them drifts to the right. The only 1 that drove correctly had the 18" wheels and all of the other ones had 20's. It's not just me either, I can reproduce it and so can everyone else that drives them.

I wonder if any of the folks on here with 2011's drive straight without having to hang onto the wheel?

    TR

I think the wide low profile tires cause some of this issue. I had the same problems with my 2007 Mazda CX-9 with 20" wheels. The tread design also had some influence. Stock Bridgestone were the worst, Goodyear Eagle GA a bit better, Yokohama Prada SpecX seemed the best. My Edge with 18" wheels has no issues.

  11. That's what happens when a car mfr tries to write complicated user interface software. The good news is it sounds like they know they messed up and they're getting outside help to fix it which includes ditching flash.

I am sure that hardware upgrades will come in future MY and applcations to make the system function as intended. I would guess that Ford will not upgrade the 2011 Edge and we will live with a sub-par system with software band-aids. I'm curious to see what happens when the car is out of warranty (15K miles for me).

  12. I do agree the updates should at least be noted on syncmyride.com. But the dealers are aware of the updates and all you have to do is call and ask - so how is that "leaving customers in the dark"?

Could they do more? Yes. Did they screw up royally? Yes. Are they going all out to try and fix the problems? Yes, with new releases every month or so and a rumored total rewrite that is backwards compatible.

Are customers with continuing problems upset? Yes. Are there customers who are happy with no problems? Yes.

If Ford stops putting out software updates before the problems are fixed OR if they start refusing to fix problem vehicles THEN I'll be the first one to blast them. Until then I give them the benefit of the doubt that they're doing everything they can to try and fix the problems even if they aren't doing it perfectly.

I've been where they're at on large software projects so I guess I have a little more empathy than most.

The expectations of the auto industry and its customers is much higher that for other products. MFT was released 2 years too early. OK, its done and now needs to be fixed.

To me, the biggest issue is that I don't know what Ford is actually planning. Its all rumours and then a new update shows up now and then. If I was the supplier of this system to Ford, they would expect a clear recovery plan with details on key milestones. I don't expect this kind of detail, but Ford should be communicating to its customers as to what issues they are aware of, have a some way to allow customers to communicate issues to them and give some impression that they are taking all this very seriously. Based on the last 6 months, I have no confidance that MFT will ever be fixed and the dealer network is not helping the issue.

  13. I am glad your happy, and have had no issues.... I dont expect to be hounded... Im not asking for a phone call every day for it. But an e-mail... or a letter in the mail.... You may have no issues... but theres plenty of people who do.

I agree that there should be some communication to owners as soon as a new version is released. It can be up to that owner then to act on it or not. I should not have to learn about when the latest release is available from an owners forum. This situation is so different from any other component failure on a vehicle. Its not like something breaks on the vehicle at which time I would go to the dealer to have it ifixed. The MFT has been "broken" since day one. Every update fixes something, messes something else up and does not address other things at all. It just continues to be broken and leaves many of us with the hope that the next release will actually fix our particular issue, which seem to be different in each case.

  14. Sure they can, if they are plugged. However they don't plug themselves, it has to be a symptom of a different problem, not the root cause.

If a cat is plugged then engine would run very poorly and would not just stall. A normally running engine suddenly stalling for sure has nothing to do with a cat failing. Seems to be common on Ford Edges though.

  15. Hi,

my edge stalled on me while I was driving on high way! extremlly dangerous. Check engine light came on this time.

It happned once before while I was waiting at gas station. That time no check engine light at all.

Don't konw if this time the error message came on due to the fact that the engine stalled twice, one while driving on the high way, another one at a traffic light 10 mins after.

I brought it in to my dealer and just got a call from them saying it is the catalytic converter. Hopefully, it will fix the problem.

2011 Edge limited with less than 10K.

    Anyone having the same issue??

Catalytic converters don't stall engines. Don't accept it back if this is the only thing they looked at.

  16. Thanks for replying, was hoping for some logical feedback!

Based on taking a trip and doing only highway driving, cruise set to 105 km's / hour non stop for a 8 plus hour road trip, for a limited AWD, how many km's can I expect to do on a full tank? 600 kms +\-?

No stops, just get on highway and 1st stop would be to refuel.

    Thanks again!

Well, I average 20 MPG, mostly highway but at higher speed. So assume you could get 22 MPG and the AWD has a 21 gallon tank, then you can go 462 miles = 760 km.

  17. I just don't get it....Each time I fill up, the screen which shows me how many km's I have to empty is completely different.

For example, I filled up back around 2 months ago and I was showing 579 km's to empty once I left the gas station which I was thrilled to see. Then the next time I filled up I showed something close to 499 until empty. I filled up yesterday and couldn't believe it but now showed 454 km's to empty? Why would I get such different results?

On almost all accounts, I prob had less than 20 km's left to empty or approx 1/8th in the tank give or take by the reading.

Don't know if it makes a difference or not, but when I find gas at a really good price, I tend to fill then overfill, meaning I will slowly pull out the nozzle 3 to 4 times so I can get it extra full but I doubt this makes a difference?

The results are not a few km's away, we are up to 100 at times? What are people showing when they fill up all the way? Is there something I need to reset prior or after filling up to make it read correctly?

    Now, second question:

As much as I am showing 499 km's to empty, knowing in my head I should probably have more, when I drive highway or city I notice that it's not 1 for 1 with my millage. I was driving highway on cruise control set to 105 and I was getting roughly 2 km's on the tachometer for every 1 km being reduced on my KM to empty screen I guess making up for the lower number? Is this normal? Not always the same in the city but I have seen this.

    Lastly,

How sensitive is the fuel indicator? I am asking as I've put gas in on 2 occasions and the km's to empty has not reflected it and didn't rise. I was in a bad situation about 2 months ago, had something like 5 km's left till empty and only had $10 on me. I put in the $10 but the millage left to empty never went up, it stayed at the same 5 km's.

Any help to these 3 questions would be appreciated!!

    Thanks in advance!

    Tony

You km to empty will be based on some average fuel economy. Not sure which one though since there is many different fuel economy numbers stored. There is 2 trip screens, each one with its own fuel economy number and in addition, on the fuel economy screen, you have bar graphs for programmed intervals + an overall number. My guess is that it uses some recent average, so your km to empty will fluctuate quite a bit.

Fill-up habits will have nothing to do with the calculation.

Fuel sending units have a lot of filtering to eliminate display fluctuations due to slosh. So adding $10 might not register very fast.

BTW: Its not a good idea to "overfill". You run the risk of getting liquid fuel in your vapor lines which could cause failues to the EVAP system.

I've also noticed that the tank will still have 2+ gallons left when the fuel gage shows empty (0 km to go). The gallons (liters) used seems pretty accurate.

  18. Did you check to see if display contact photos is on? It's under the phone settings, When I had the 2.8 applied, the automatic phonebook download was disabled by default, and I can't remember if display phone contact pictures was also disabled. I flipped both back on, on my car.. perhaps yours is off?

    M.

Photos are visible in the phonebook, they just don't show up on the screen when in a call anymore. Tried a new vehicle on the dealer lot and got the same. Guess something else that got screwed up in the latest update.

  19. Did you check to see if display contact photos is on? It's under the phone settings, When I had the 2.8 applied, the automatic phonebook download was disabled by default, and I can't remember if display phone contact pictures was also disabled. M.

Both are set to "on". I will try to delete and re-pair.
