  1. This may be a stupid question but I have searched the forums and the manual and have not found the answer. Is there a way to keep the LED light bars on the 2011 Sport on while driving? Are they only on during start and light delay when turning off?

    Thanks

    JJ

I have not been able to find any information on this subject. What I plan to do is install a DPDT 12 volt relay, which will activate when the Edge is running. When the relay energizes, it will disconnect the LED's from the vehicle's electrical system, and supply +12v to the LED's. By using a relay, the LED's will be lit when the Edge is running, but when the ignition is off, the LED's will operate normally with the lock/unlock function. Power for the relay will be supplied from the under hood fuse box, using a Littlefuse tap, available at Pep Boys.

  2. Tony,

Just wanted to chime in. I have had my sport for about month now. I have NO issues at all with the vehicle. Yes, the screen is a little slow WHEN compared to a LAPTOP or PC. Please understand that there is not 1 car at 40k that will have PC style reactions IF they even had this amount of information on their screen. I am POSITIVE that Ford will only make it (software) better with the time to come. This is NOT a 1 off car. This will be available in many, if not most, Ford vehicles in the years to come.

This is somewhat true. People love to complain. Not many make a point or the effort to praise something.

So, I will help the others change the stats. I am a former BMW X5 4.8l V8 driver. Had all the bells and whistles. Now I have the Edge Sport. I am very satisfied, especially at half the price. Yes, I miss the 50 extra horses a little and the V8 sound from the pipes, but my wallet weight now may be the reason for this car being somewhat slower off the line. All joking aside, I am very happy with my new car. The tech is nice (and I am a tech guy). Yes it will get better with time. Just watch how many manufacturers will try to catch up SOON. I am glad I made a choice to by American (North American, not forgetting my good neighbors to the North).

I too am a former X5 owner. I've driven BMW's since 1970, and this is the first non-BMW that I've owned. Very happy with my Edge Limited. Even though there a few bugs in SYNC, they are nothing compared to BMW's lousy electronics. Ford did a great job with the new Edge, and I don't miss my X5 at all.

  3. Reclining a rear seat while the cargo cover is attached stresses the covers attachments. Salesmen suggested it would be users fault if the attachment broke. Totally missed the faulty design issue.

The cargo cover is a joke. when my wife saw it, she could not stop laughing. Ford could have done a much better job on this one.

  4. I've never owned a Ford before, but have just purchased and received a 2011 Edge Limited FWD (Bordeaux Red/Black interior). They don't sell many 4WD versions here in South Florida. I was upgrading from a Honda Civic coupe as my family is expanding and I needed a vehicle that was more car seat (and wife) compatible. It has rapid spec 302a plus the blind spot warning system and the 20" wheels. Before the purchase I tested most everything in the category and asked questions of people in parking lots everywhere; without fail Edge owners seemed happiest, including an older couple who drove theirs down from Montreal with no complaints. This, coupled with the dramatic changes in the 2011 model, led to my purchase.

By the way, the single best thing I did was cough up the $14 for the Consumer Reports info on the car. I ended up getting the Edge for less than even CR's "bottom line price" and likely saved a few thousand bucks vs. going in cold.

    IMPRESSIONS:

    1. I'll miss the Civic's fuel economy – we still have (and love) a Honda Element, and even that gets better mileage than the Edge – but there's clearly no comparison in terms of luxury, tech features, etc. It's a different universe. Swanky.

    2. Speaking of tech – I'm very much an Apple guy (I do a lot of design work) but for the most part I'm happy with the Microsoft Sync gadgetry. Touch sensitive buttons? Eh, those I could live without. And while my iPhone 4 works well for calls, bluetooth audio (music) is very buggy and does not connect consistently, as noted elsewhere on this site. It's rather frustrating. USB audio works fine, but then the phone is constantly being charged, and that's not a good thing from a battery life perspective. I'm considering going to simple RCA plugs as I did in my old car; I don't think I'd be using the center console to navigate through my iPhone music anyway, too distracting. Hopefully a software update will fix the Bluetooth audio issue.

    3. I can't get the remote start to function. Every other remote function works well – it's weird but cool to never have to take your keys out of your pocket, or to simply touch the door handle to lock it, etc. But remote start (press lock then the remote start button twice) refuses to work.

    4. Everything else – spot on, so far. LOVE the console, love the "quiet" (Hondas are noisy), love the sunroof (something I had but didn't like on the Civic), love how well constructed it feels (apart from the matt by the dead pedal area, which is a tad loose), love the navigation (although it would be nice if the system told you what side of the street your destination is on). Overall very happy... so far!

I just took delivery of my 2011. Same color, but Stone interior. I agree with everything you stated, including the SYNC system being a little buggy, but I really did not expect anything more from Microsoft....At least I have not gotten any blue screens yet. The only two things I don't like are the plastic chrome wheel covers, and the fact that the vertical LED's in the grill do not function as Daytime Running lights.
