  1. To me the new Explorer is just a bigger version of the new Edge with some new updates such as electric power steering. The dash is almost identical on the 2. I have seen both of them is person and like both of them. To me the decision would come down to what size vehicle you want. I like the smaller size of the Edge and the slightly better fuel mileage. The Explorer has a third seat which I don't need. Go to a dealer that has both of them and test drive and look them over. That is what I did when I bought my Edge, we were looking at the Taurus until we saw the new 2011 Edge and drove both and ended up with the Edge. The new Explorer is hot right now, the dealer where I got my Edge told me when I was in for service last week that they are selling them almost as fast as they can get them.

  2. Had a new update show up today:

    BT4T-14D546-EB Version 1.1

    GEN II INTERROGATOR

Installed it just for the heck of it, don't have a clue what it does.

Maybe this replaces the previous program for reporting what items are installed!

  3. More than likely, they finally did the rear alignment. If they said the front was in specs, the only other place to fix would have been the rear. Improper rear toe in could cause a pull.

Anyway, whatever they did, you now have a decent driving vehicle. When something is wrong, a little bitchin' to the right person goes a long way! :finger:

They claim they did a 4 wheel alignment the first time  But who knows! I could not tell any difference after the first time they supposedly did an alignment. But as you said, it is now fixed, I just wish I knew what they did. Asking the service advisor is a waste of time as he is more BS then anything and condescending in his attitude. The Service Manager is too busy to talk to you most of the time and will not return phone calls. I made up my mine after this I will try another dealer and see if their attitude is any better. Will go back to the original dealer for electronic work as the Tech that does their work appears to be pretty good and up on the latest technology.

  4. Have a 2011 with less then 2000 miles with pretty much the same symptoms. Dealer did a 4 wheel alignment and it helped but did not eliminate the pull to the right. Talked to the Service Manager and agreed to drive for awhile and then bring it back if it was still a problem. It is and I intend to take it back shortly. Pull is not bad but is noticeable. Does anyone know if the TSB still applies? Or did they make changes it the suspension in the later models?

FYI: The TSB has been updated to TSB 08-7-3, the only change is in model year included.

Update: Took it back it in and they had it on the alignment machine for over 2 hours. Never got a straight answer about what they did, but it is fixed. I no longer have a pull and the Edge steers and drives better then it ever has. The only compliant I have is that I had to be a major pain in the ass to the the Service Advisor and Service Manager to get them to do anything. They kept trying to tell me that everything was within specifications and there was nothing they could do. I kept after it and fortunately the day I took it in for something else there was a Ford Engineer there and she drove it. I was going to escalate it to Ford if they did not want to do anything. The pull was very noticeable and I had to keep a steady pressure to the left of the steering wheel independent of the slope of the road. Now the Edge will track straight and will drift slowly in the direction of slope of the road like most vehicles do. Hopefully the detail service order they send out will have some more information about what they did. I had previously swapped the front tires without any improvement and I can tell that they did not rotate the tires front to back so they had to change something on the front end I just don't know what. For some reason this dealer seems to think that letting the customer know what they do would be revealing a trade secret.

Looks like I'm way behind. I have scheduled the install for the 22nd. I am scared though because I've not had issues like many others and am fearful that more harm than good will be done.... has 2.4 treated everyone well?

When the update is successful it is an improvement. However, when it goes bad it will make the system inoperable (from personal experience). There were lots of problems when the updates started, but lately there has been mostly successful upgrades. It took 2 tries before they got mine updated. Make sure your dealer has done updates besides yours, you don't want to be the first, as I was. Also check the Nav system (if equipped) before you leave and make sure it works.

  6. I have the same noise.

It seems like it is just a design flaw from Ford.

I do not get wind or have leaks in the car.

All cars have certain characteristics built into them..... my 1989 Rangers antenna would howl and vibrate like hell over 55mph if it got any ice built up on it. To fix the issue I put one of the newer twisted style Ford antennas on it and the issue went away.

Since there are so many posts about this one subject I would say this issue is just a annoying built in feature we all have.

We all don't have this problem. I do not have this noise so it may be a assembly problem. I hate it when a dealer tries to tell me they all do something, that maybe true but that doesn't mean it is not a problem.

  7. It seems that there may be more than one path to v 2.4. Those with the DA update in the history do not seem to show BD or BE. Not sure what that means or why there are multiple paths. Interestingly though, some of those folks seemed to have the Ambient light and Lincoln logo issue. The list that Curly posted provides a more detailed view than the sidebar version above. It would appear that Ford wants us to focus on the version now rather than the update code.

I have the Ambient Light issue but not the Lincoln Logo issue. The dealer installed the BD update and I downloaded and installed the BE update during the short period it was available online. I really would like to know the differences in the suffixes and what is the latest versions. Everything is working correctly except for the blue and green switch on the Ambient light.

  8. I just noticed that you haven't updated to the BD or BE version

I did update to BE and I show the same 2.4

Now try to make some sense out of that!

I have both the BD and BE updates, see the Sync history below.

  10. I also purchased 2011 Ford Edge Limited, my problem was the dealer could not find the SD card for the nav system when I picked up the car and they are having a hard time figuring out what the part number is so they can order it. MySync had the Navigation display in the upper right corner, but it said “No SD Card detected but I was able to select this area and able to view several pages. I was on SyncMyRide website and it said I needed this update BT4T-14D544-BD SYNC GEN 2, but could only be done at the dealer and it said fees may be charged. I contacted my dealer service and they said that it would $96.00 for the upgrade, after talking with the New Car sales Manager he waived the fee, so I said that’s do it, well once they completed it (5 Hrs later) MySync no longer has the Navigation display in the top right corner it now says “Information” and I no longer have access to the pages I had before. I called the dealer service and reported it and was told to bring it back in and they would look at. I believe that my dealer has no clue on what they are doing with these new Edges’s. If there anybody out there that can shed some light or recommendations on my situation I would greatly appreciate it.

I had the same problem after my update, I had no Nav or info system (the little i by the Home symbol), I caught it while the tech was still there. He thought he was through but I had learned of several things to check before he finished and brought it to his attention. He had to contact Ford and they walked him through the procedure for activating the Nav system and the Sirius info system. Tell the dealer to have the tech call Ford support and they can tell him what to do. I saw the tech using a USB flash drive to load something on the system to get it to work. It can be done but the Tech will have to contact Ford Support for info on what to do, the tech told me that whoever he was talking to at Ford said he was having to help the techs at dealers several times a day with this problem, so if your dealer can get to the right person at Ford they should be able to tell them have to fix your problem. The SD card should have come with the vehicle. I had to ask the salesman where mine was when I picked up the Edge, he had to go fine it, took him about to 15 minutes to locate it.

  11. One of the things I had really liked on my 2011 Edge Limited was the AM radio reception. On a trip this weekend to the Texas panhandle tuned in to a Dallas AM station about 300 miles away and get good reception all the way there and while I was there for several days. Start home today tuned to the same station and the reception just goes away all at once. Thinking that it is just the station I try to tune in another AM station and no luck. FM works and all other features of the Audio system appear to work. Later discover that I can get AM reception only when I am close to a strong AM station, going through a town where I know there is a station I can tune it in for about a 10 mile radius, the reception has static but it is there. So I know at least part of the AM radio works but not very well. It is as if the AM antenna is not there, FM works fine.

Will let the dealer figure out the problem next week, beginning to wish I had bought a KIA  .

  12. As a long time Ford owner and buyer of Ford Parts there is no way Ford (in my opinion) will sell this option (if they ever decide to) for $795 or $895. It will be more like $1100 to $1300 if you are lucky. If you can find a dealer that will discount it you might get it for $1000.

Like I said this my opinion, but it is based on many years of dealing with the Ford parts system.

  13. I would concur with Wilson that you are on Sync Gen 2. Not sure about the "DA" and "BG" items though. That is the first time I have seen those. Transcription error? In any case, it is easier to confirm using the Sync History screen where it shows what has been successfully uninstalled and what is currently installed.

Not an error, I also have DA and BG

  14. Nope... I have the limited, with adaptive cruise, and I don't have the Vista roof (needed the roof rack for kayaks)

When did you purchase your Limited.

The Ford Build and Price will not currently allow me to select the Adaptive Cruise without the 302A package. It was also that way in October 2010 when I was looking at options. I wanted one without the Vista roof and could not figure out how to get one with all the options I wanted without the roof option.

  15. ^^^Many who have had the software upgrade have said that it did solve the white screen issue. I just got the update today and the white screen issue still occurs for me. :S Now i'm not sure if they actually gave me the correct update and will need to check that as all my settings were retained.

    How long are you waiting?

Mine goes off when the exterior lights go off, around 20 seconds after I close the door? This is after the latest upgrades, BD and BE!

  16. I believe this system is geared to the younger crowd also, I really cant see too many people over the age of 50 or 60 saying I got to have this but I am sure there are lots of people that are over 50 that do want this but I am sure they probably were really up on the newest technology for years.

I am 39 and I didnt believe it was worth the upgrade price to me. I will wait till there is an aftermarket upgrade.

Here is a list of owners who own the vehicle and are not testing it for a day or two that are having issues.

    http://www.fordedgeforum.com/index.php?/topic/6240-2011-edgemkx-my-touch-and-sync-problems/

    http://www.fordedgeforum.com/index.php?/topic/1767-weird-mp3sync-problem/

Seems to me owners (not testers) are having lots of issues.

There are some of us old farts around that are not still using typewriters :yup: . Thiis system is not for any non-tech person of any age. I can see a non tech person young or old becoming very frustrated with this system very quickly :banghead:

The latest upgrades have really improved the system, and so far as I can tell everything but the ambient color swap appears to be working correctly.

  17. I just got back from the dealer and unfortunately I had to leave my car at the dealer once again. The service department was closed so I was just given my keys from one of the salesman. I got in my car extremely anxious to test out the new update and see how much "snappier" it is. I turned on my car and IT ACTUALLY TURNED ON. After noticing a slight speed improvement (not perfect, but NOT BAD) I was quite pleased. Unfortunately when I went to turn on my nav to go home, all I got was "SYNC APPS" so I thought it was a new feature but it wasn't. I tried resetting the SD card, turning on and off the car but to no avail it wouldn't turn on! After finding that NAV was not working, my Ambient light is not working as well. I didnt notice any difference in quality of the backup camera tho, it looked the same. Maybe I just need to clean the lense. So I left my car there and hopefully it will be resolved by tomorrow.

I am currently driving a 2010 Edge SEL as a loaner and I really miss my 2011 limited!

I had a similar experience when they did my update, the tech did not have the Nav system working after the initial upgrade, also make sure the Sirius info system (i next to the home symbol) is also working. Neither were working when he thought he had completed the update. Fortunately I caught them both before the tech left and they got it working the same day. It did take him longer to get the two working then it did for him to do the initial update.

  18. Strange. I have not done the dealer Sync Gen 2 update yet and it's listed as an upgrade on my syncmyride profile.

Are you able to download the BE update. A user on another Forum who did not have the BD update installed could not download the BE update. I have had the BD update and was able to download the update.

I downloaded and installed the BE update last night without any problems. Do not know yet what it fixes but the installation screen showed it to be a service pack. It is a fairly large upgrade (about 250MB) and takes close to 20 minutes. If you do the BE update be patient as it will appear as if nothing is happening, the system does a complete reboot at least twice, the screen will go black and takes a while to reappear.
