  1. I have had my 2011 edge for about 3 weeks. Great car and worth the 3 1/2 month wait. First problem was yesterday on a road trip. Driving at 100kph when the Cross Traffic/Blind Spot error light came on in the car and the little yellow light on the mirror stayed on. The clock jumped ahead 4 hours and the calendar was years out. Did all the usual checks with the clock (gps sync etc) all was setup properly. Was about to go to the dealership this morning but for kicks I downloaded the sync status checker last evening and reported the successful install. This morning I started the car and the Cross Traffic/Blind Spot alert was gone and everything worked perfectly. The calendar date was correct but now the clock was about 2 hours fast. Anyway for just the clock I decided not to go to the dealership & to let that one go for awhile because I understand they are working on a fix for that problem.

  2. if this sync had the ability to stream apps from your phone how great would that be. Or why cant Sync make a deal with apps like "Poynt" how hard can that be.

Does anybody know where to start to email ford for suggestions?

I suppose one could complain to Ford Canada Customer Service. It's no point complaining to the dealers. Going into google maps there are 3 listed cars you can sync to (In Canada that is)..Audi, BMW and one more, not sure which one but it's not the Ford Edge. I did a comparison of streets in this town (large town) and I couldn't believe how old the street maps were...(actually for 4 streets about 8 years behind) then I checked with google maps and everything was up to date. I think I'll update my Garmin Nuvi where I can download routes from Google or Mapquest directly into the gps.

  3. Funny how you see all these great ads, salesmen talk and websites filled with all the flashy sync apps.

Then after you actually buy the vehicle you find out the sync add on's like weather, movies, stocks, are not available in Canada.

I am right or am I just missing something?

I don't think you are missing anything. I would love to be able to use google maps to select a destination and download it to my Nav. system. I have checked the maps used by Ford and for some areas they are at least 5 or 6 years out of date as compared to google maps (before anyone jumps to hard on this, I have actually taken some towns & cities that I know and compared the maps). This is why I will still use my Garmin Nuvi. Even Garmin's maps (navteq) are not as good as google or mapquest. I am sure the Nav System in the ford is good for large cities. Someone mentioned it worked well in Washington, DC.

  4. In regards to the remote start, at least in my neighborhood, you want to make sure your doors are LOCKED before the car starts up with nobody around.... may not be there when you get out to it.

In regards to the navigation system, you can cycle through a few views by pressing the red directional. Also, while you have a destination programmed/active, you can depress the small "VIEW" icon at the top right and that will cycle through a few more layout changes as well. I use the one with the upcoming turns listed on the right side. I happen to think that the nav is beautiful. At least in comparison to the Garmin and TomTom units that I have used in my other cars. Particularly if you are somewhere that can use the 3D buildings features (like in Washington, DC). While I'm talking about DC, which I have found in the past to be akin to the Bermuda Triangle as far as not getting lost, even with a GPS. I had a trip into NW DC last week from Silver Spring, MD. There was a major accident on route 50 and I (with fingers crossed) changed the nav to reroute automatically around traffic. For the very first time in my life I did not get lost going through DC. Even the round abouts were clearly marked on the map and the nav lady was very accurate in her directions... "enter the traffic circle. take the 23rd exit and clinch your butt cheeks because nobody else can drive around here either." Ok, well not quite, but she was very precise and didn't get me lost. ::cheers:: to the nav lady.

Love your post. I just got back from two weeks in DC & Fairfax and I know exactly what you are talking about. It is not an easy city to get around in. I shudder to think what it would be like for strangers without a GPS. I have always used the higher end Garmins and I am not yet familiar with the Edge Nav System. I was told in Canada we can't even select a destination in Google Maps and have it downloaded to the Ford Nav. System. So I think I will always have my Garmin close by.

  5. Meant to ask about Google map destination & sync. I do have the nav. system. Just wondering if I can select a destination in Google maps and have it sync to the navigation system. Read something somewhere but couldn't find the topic. Not sure if it's only available in the U.S. I know the traffic/direction info is only available in the US. Thanks.

  6. Got back to Canada after spending couple weeks in Washington D.C and Fairfax VA to find the Edge had finally arrived after 3 1/2 month wait. All updates appear to have been done by the dealership and as of today everything seems to be functioning as it should. Can't find one item to complain about. However, I have only put about 100km on the vehicle so things could change...fingers, toes crossed.

  7. I think you're overreacting just a bit. There were some early software flaws that have been fixed and SOME hardware problems.

It sounds like you have a bad APIM. Once it's replaced you should be fine. I don't think the intermittent problem mentioned in the Ford documents is your problem.

Overreacting? Wow! Maybe pulling the cars off the road but not with frustration. I feel your pain and hope it works out well for you in the end.

  8. Getting my APIM replaced on Friday.......really hoping that things go smoothly.

Talked to my dealership yesterday (small dealer) and they have done a couple just recently without a hitch. Mine is still in Nova Scotia and won't be on the Island until next Wednesday. Unfortunately I'll be in Washington DC & Fairfax for a few weeks so won't get to see or drive it until the latter part of Feb. They promised me all the updates/upgrades will be done by the time I get back.

  9. cirockets I have not tried everything and I doubt I ever will..But the phone works great ,also the sirius radio. The sound is awesome with the 12 speakers..The backup camera is great,I only briefly tried the navigation not enough to fully assess how hood it is compared to my old Garmin.Anyway I am sure you will like your new vehicle. For your info I am in New Brunswick about one hour from Moncton

Great, hope all works out with your ride. I also use a Garmin Nuvi and have been for years. We are in Central NL.

  10. We ordered an 2011 edge limited front wheel drive on the 01 Nov 2010. It was built on the 5th Jan and arrived at the dealer 18th Jan in the evening .Got a call the next day and parked it in my yard on the 20th.Yesterday we had another winter storm and this morning my new edge looks like an igloo LOL.I only put about 40km on it .Really impressed so far.According to syncmyride I have:sync version

I have no idea what it all means..I am not a computer geek. Can anybody tell me if it's the latest updates?I will try and post pictures when I can figure out how to do it.Thank you

I ordered mine the 29th Oct. It should be in this coming Wednesday. It is showing the exact same installations as yours. I believe their may be an update we are missing though. Is everything working on your Limited.

  11. I love mine - I am one of the few that seem to actively follow the forum that has not had the MFT issues that other people report. My limited AWD handles excellent on snow/ice with the all weather 18's that came on the car. My husband likes driving it as much as I do and my daughter loves the ambient lighting. Even my dad who is die hard chevy comes as close as he can to saying it is a nice car.... for a ford and all.

I am sure you will be happy with whatever you pick - but I would recommend this car to anyone.

Carrie, just curious, have you had any updates done?

  12. Ugh. The Edge went into the dealer for the second time today to apply the TSB. Not only did I not get the TSB applied to fix my rebooting MFT, my touch screen no longer works whatsoever. No navigation, not heated seats, not climate control, no back up camera, nothing! Apparently I need a new APIM module with no ETA on when they'll get it in. Not impressed. :banghead::censored:

Shane that is frustrating. I'm supposed to get mine on Wed. of next week. Not sure if I am looking forward to receiving it or not. Some people are having great luck and for a few it's a mess. I'm sure when you get your APIM things will improve.

  13. To add to the mystery...and there is no waiting updates on my page.

Mine shows exactly like yours except SYNC Ver. 2.4

  14. For those of you who have confirmed successful updates of the Gen 2 and BE installs done by the dealer, are any of you in Montreal, Ottawa or Toronto areas?

My dealer is giving me the run around, doesn't know his head from his A** when it comes to this system and I am fearful they will only mess it up more by trying to do the install, especially with the ambient lighting alignment messing up by not checking the install confirmations. I still don't have anything updated on my car.

If anyone has done these 2 updates and happy with the results in or around the cities I mentioned above, can you please let me know what dealership and if possible who you dealt with so I can call them.

I have no problem taking a drive over to ensure it get's done correctly, I need that piece of mind before I commit to doing all these updates.

Lastly, it used to show that I needed both these updates but since a week or so it shows I am completely up to date when I am not. Must I get these print outs or can Ford call the update center with my VIN to find out what I need….I heard that once they plug in the car, it will show all available updates for my particular VIN number…is this true?

    Thanks!!

This happened to me as well. Said I needed one update and within 3 hours the history showed it was loaded. Good luck, all will sort itself out in due time.

  15. Had an appointment today at my dealership to apply the TSB and get my synch updated. Just got a call from them that they apparently don't have the correct cable to apply the TSB. Ugh. :banghead:

Oh well, it's not the end of the world. :)

Shane this is what I am expecting in my neck of the woods as well. I have asked questions and have been trying to prepare for when the vehicle arrives. Personally I would prefer to leave it at the dealers until it's totally updated. If all the updates are in place fine, otherwise I will pick it up when it's done...besides they have given me a nice loaner until the Edge arrives.

  16. My advice would be until you get the car - stop messing with downloading software. I am guessing that they are updating yours completely before you get it and it was a coincidence on the timing of the removal. Until you have the car and can see if it even will have any issues, don't stress about what might be. There have been plenty of these cars that have little or no problems with the original version of the software.

Not really stressed Choff. Don't stress that easy having been in the Air Traffic business but just wanted to be prepared to ask/answer questions before I take the car off the lot. The techs are not familiar (yet) with the updating business. I have asked questions of them and suggested maybe someone should join the forum to get a handle on things..(said in a joking way of course). There is only one dealership here so no choices. It's not a problem with the download, I have it on my flash drive but would prefer the dealership do any/all updates before I take delivery. Thanks and take care up there in Alaska...love that State (especially in early summer).

  17. Have you had the BD update installed? Do you have the BE update available for you to download? If so, you may be able to do it.

It showed on my sync site for one day then they pulled it.

It sounds like some people, who had had the BD update applied, were able to install the BE on their own.

However, I saw on the Sync forum that the BE update was never meant for the public to install.

Thanks guys. I don't want to beat this thing to death because we had a discussion about this a few days back. First off I will be getting the car in just a few days...it's on its way...so I wanted to be prepared to discuss the updates with the ford techs (they haven't done one yet). Anyway when I got the VIN, went to syncmyride and the following showed up Sync Ver. Gen 2

    BT4T-14D546-AG

    BT4T-14F496-AK

    BT4T-14F497-AG

    Sync compatible software BT4T-14F603-AG

    That's all was shown.

Then the information an Update ready for download BT4T-14D546-BE

Ok since we had been discussing this earlier I decided to download the BE file ( just for kicks, somebody mentioned they had trouble downloading it)...everything downloaded great.

I went back a few hours later and the BE file was no longer there... Is it normally removed after the download?

I went into the history and it showed the BE file loaded onto the car...I didn't do any confirmation with Sync, I just downloaded the file (I don't have the damn car yet)...was this a coincidence or not...were they updating my system at the same time because it was the exact same date I downloaded the file to my flash drive. Am I confused? definitely . Any thoughts? Sorry for long post.
