  1. Hey folks, I share your frustration with the system and I think some of you are new(er) to the boards so to recap some of the work arounds you can try: 1. Update to 2.11 (go to syncmyride.com); 2. If you have a nav issue, shut the car down, pull card and inspect for debris, reinsert and restart. The nav system typically takes about a minute to boot up; 3. If you have a SAT radio station display issue, I think 2.11 should addresses this issue; 4. As a last resort, you can force the system to reboot by pulling out and reinserting Fuse 29 in the fuse box next to your left foot in the driver's well (you can also pull and reinsert the main bus power supply at the top of the box. If you pull the fuse, use tweezers or something similar. Ford is said to be working on a ground up rewrite of the software according to one mod on these boards. It is supposed to be shipped via a USB stick in the mail the first quarter of 2012. Suffice to say, what's happened to date is one of the worst implementations of a new "feature" in any car line I can recall. Feel free to vent, ask questions concerning specific issues and if you find new/different solutions, please post them all up for each other. Hang in there.
  2. IIRC Ford has email information not just from sync my ride but from each purchase. There were boxes to check/uncheck about "marketing" etc but important stuff like recalls etc Ford can email. They ofc also have our mailing addresses from the sales contracts.
  3. Pretty sure he's referring to direct communication with the customer rather than a press release which may or may not be picked up by a news outlet he frequents. The only reason I knew about the updates and the issues was monitoring this forum. Monitoring Ford Corporation's press releases I suppose is another option but most marketing types would tell us that its better the company reach out to their customers. They have all of our contact info from our vehicle purchases.
  4. I don't get the sense there is daily complaining. If you don't like what you see, you can start a thread or try to find the information you need elsewhere. Back on topic: For those of you with 2.8 - if you aren't having major issues than keep 2.8 until this big update/rewrite is issued in the next couple of months.
  5. You can have an aftermarket unit professionally installed and will likely look pretty good. I'd think we'd know in the next couple of months if they decide to pull the trigger on it.
  6. I think hooking in app functionality etc came to a screeching halt once the extent of the MFT software problems were revealed. I fervently hope they look to the app functionality once the MFT program is rebuilt.
  7. In this day and age, computers and the software platforms are playing an increasingly large role in how a car functions. Ford built the Edge and the upper trims of many of its new models around MFT. The number of people having issues with this software is, if anything, understated. Are all affected? No I don't think so. However, the fact Ford finally commissioned Microsoft for a complete rewrite of its software (assuming your source is accurate) should be considered one of the biggest news stories in the automotive industry in recent memory. It's also a PR disaster for Ford which is why rather than facing it head-on (which a PR firm would want them to do), they are touting the cosmetics and not telling us about the fact the underlying platform is being trashed and rewritten. I don't think anyone expects them to provide us with patch notes describing every bug fixed or that they plan on fixing. They could help restore many people's faith in the brand by GETTING IN FRONT and communicating. The old days of keeping things on the "down low" and providing as little information about bad news as possible simply doesn't work in today's 24/7/365 information driven society. Who is the "we" you referred to in the quote above? Is the "we" Ford or the forum moderators or someone else?
  8. LoL ok. Feel free to leave this thread to the rabble rousers.... Also bolded the ironic part...
  9. Its cool and all you have an inside source at Microsoft that told you personally the entire system is being rewritten. I shouldn't have to hear fourth hand from an anonymous source on the internet about this re release to fix the Sync system. We are on this forum complaining because there is no where else for folks in our predicament to exchange information and vent about the fact we spent anywhere from 30-45k on a car who's information/entertainment systems were built atop a defective platform. I'm sure our local dealerships appreciate us venting with each other rather on them. What I find boggling is that you are a forum moderator who is upset folks are using this forum to communicate about a topic of common interest. That's really bizarre. What's downright insane is you own a 2008 Edge so didn't fork over 40k for this product nor are you living with this software daily so why are you jumping on all of us for being upset/pissed?
  10. Its great to hear that Ford has stepped up with free oil changes/rotations. It may be that this was a result of the squeaky wheel getting the grease. I frankly haven't had time to chase down Ford corporate types to rail at them. I know others have done so. I am certain from talking to other Edge owners in my area that their experiences mirror mine and have not received any "goodies" from Ford in the form of free stuff. akirby: I acknowledge Ford is scrambling to fix things. As they should. I and many others have simply expressed their disbelief that this software was released in the first place when it was so patently bugged. They have released many updates and have not done a good job in communicating with their owners about them. I'm not the only person who found most of the information here, not on syncmyride.com and certainly not at my dealership. I'm having the same bugs with 2.11 as I had with 1.8 and before. I do think you are making an assumption that the underlying software is being rewritten. I'm not certain that is true but hope it turns out to be the case. The focus of the releases deals with reskins of the interface. They don't really address the underlying problems - again likely due to PR/lawsuit concerns.
  11. The fact Ford's shiny press releases and other PR spin is silent (along with no communication directly with current owners) tell me that they are focused on the re skinning process and the bugs will be worked on "as able." Bug hunting is a tedious and time consuming process. There are literally a ton of bugs in this software and they are (hopefully) prioritizing and addressing them but likely not all in this new release. I know there are many out there who may not have experienced much in the way of bugs and others that simply ignore them which is fine. The folks who take the time to sign on to these forums clearly aren't thrilled with this software. Like many on these boards, I've really been surprised that Ford has taken a turtle-like approach to the issue. Its apparent that Ford elected to not bring into the company someone who is versed in addressing software. Such a person would communicate with the customer base (via blogs/syncmyride/email) as well as taking a public position in attacking the issue. The PR value alone in such a move would've calmed many of us down. Instead, there was a wall of silence, poor communication with the dealerships (who've taken tons of heat for this debacle) and sporadic success in dealing with the initial issues (judging from my car). Many of us came to Ford from foreign vehicles. Ours is a Honda/Acura and BMW household for example. The latest versions of Honda and Acura have software which does much of what Sync can do and it has few if any bugs that I can find. BMW didn't really attempt something this ambitious yet though their software does quite a bit (yea IDrive kinda sucks). There is no way in the world Honda (for example) would've allowed something like this to get past the protype stage, much less power most of their high trim line vehicles. We wasted tons of time at dealerships (my car's been in the shop for over a month in my first year of ownership) and many of the bugs I noticed the first day are still present. California's Lemon Law now seems to be a possibility for me if this mess isn't sorted and soon. I'd rather not waste even more time dealing with this issue but I refuse to accept that I should just "deal with" these kinds of issues in a $40,000 vehicle.
  12. A reskin is a far cry from fixing the bugs which have plagued this software.
  13. iOS 5 is out and IPhone 4s as well. So far, there are no issues with the contact lists that I can see. However BT Audio still will not give you control over playlists etc nor does it display track/album info on the touch screen. I'll troll through the MFT settings to see if there are any settings I've missed on the Sync side of things.
  14. As compression technology improves, either Sirius/XM will start offering higher quality channels or there may be a competitor that launches into the business. I admit that when I listen to SAT, its usually for news/sports talk. For music, I have a 30 gb IPod hooked up and many of those tracks are 256 or 320 bit tracks so they sound amazing on the Sony system.
  15. I can't blame anyone for being bitter about what has happened over the last several months. I acknowledge that Ford has pumped out several updates and they now are focused on the issue but its pretty stunning that problems of this magnitude were allowed to occur in the first place. Hopefully, there will be a stable update by the fall and we'll be able to use the car as originally intended. Given the upper end of many of their models will have the MFT system, they had no choice but to scramble. Some of us lost the use of our cars for the better part of a month total with trips to the dealer(s), APN replacements, failed updates and the like. For those of you that have had no problems or seemingly minor problems congrats. If you don't want to see venting then don't read the post...move on.
