  1. Is the volume different depending on what you say? For example, is the volume of SYNC the same if you say "Phone" or "User Device"? Also, do you have an amplifier in your system, i.e. is it audiophile or THX?
  2. There are a multitude of Bluetooth profiles that exist. The profile that is most commonly implemented by phone manufacturers is the HFP profile (or a subset of it). This allows SYNC to make phone calls and act as a handsfree device for your phone. The fact that you can or can't use a certain feature of your phone (i.e. text messages) is a function of the Bluetooth profile implementation on the phone, not SYNC. For example, Windows Mobile 6.0 does not support text messaging over Bluetooth hence you can't send or receive messages from the phone on SYNC. Furthermore, visual voice mail is an iPhone only feature that is not in any Bluetooth specification. Until it is specified by the Bluetooth committee it won't be possible to make use of it over BLuetooth. Hope this clears up some of the confusion.
  3. I am glad to hear you had this straightened out. As for your question about confirmation prompts, unfortunately, the confirmation for "phone" at the top of the voice menu (i.e. when you first press Voice button) is not done by SYNC, but by the Navigation headunit so there is not much I can help you with. However, it may be possible top adjust the Navigation headunit for better recognition, you should speak to a Ford dealer/customer service representative about that. You can also experiment with how you say "Phone". Speech recognition is a very tough problem especially in a noisy environment such as a car. You may find that if you speak straight into the windshield as opposed to the microphone you may get better results. Also, always speak in a normal, constant tone of voice any intonations, speaking too loud or soft will generally make it much harder for the system to understand you. I am glad that you are enjoying SYNC!
  4. Have you solved your problem? If not please answer the following questions so I can help you diagnose the problem: Did you download the phonebook when you paired your phone? Are all your contacts in the iPhone phonebook capital letters? Can you browse the phone book from the screen on SYNC? Which name did it recognize? Mark Vulfson -Microsoft SYNC Engineer
  5. My bad, I did not provide the correct instructions. To enable advances interaction mode you first have to say "Voice Settings", then after you hear a response, say "Interaction mode advanced".
  6. There is a list a phones that Microsoft and Ford guarantee will work with SYNC. The list of these phones, as you correctly indicated, is available at www.SyncMyRide.com. Naturally, we cannot guarantee that a particular furture phone will work. If the phone properly supports the necessary bluetooth profiles (which the Voyager does, according to manufacturer specifications) it should work properly with SYNC. This, in general, is true of all new phones. However, some phones have bugs and will not function properly. For most cases, you can assume that the hands-free functionality of a new phone will work properly with SYNC. Media and Text Messaging features are much more finicky - I would not assume they will work.
  7. While I can not comment on whether you can swap a Navigation system for a non-Navigation one in a 2008 vehicle (in some cases you can and some not). I can tell you that SYNC will automatically adapt to the headunit your car is equiped with. If your dealer swaps the non-Nav for a Navigation headunit in your car, all they have to do is restart SYNC and it work just fine.
  8. You don't have to listen to all the options every time. Here are a few options for you: Use "Advanced Interaction" mode Simply barge-in when SYNC is speaking Let me explain these options in a little more detail. Advanced Interaction mode cuts down on the "explanatory" prompts that SYNC utters and speeds up voice interaction considerably without you having to do anything. To enable this mode, press the Voice button and, after SYNC is listening to you, say "Interaction mode advanced". Once enabled this mode will persist until you change it back again. To revert to the standard voice mode, press Voice and say "Interaction mode standard" The other option, barge-in does not require any changes. It simply means that you can interrupt SYNC at any time by pressing the Voice key and SYNC will immediately start listening. So if you know what to say you can interrupt it right away and speak your command. Note, that you can use barge-in at any time, even with advanced interaction mode. Hope this makes your SYNC user experience less clunky. Let me know if you have any questions,
  9. As was noted on the thread earlier, please keep in mind that if you have an external harddrive you may have to plug it to the power outlet in addition to USB. USB port can only supply a limitted amount of current that is usually not enough for a large harddrive to spin up. Also, please keep in mind that the harddrive must be PC formatted (FAT or FAT-32), not Mac.
  10. As I have said on a seperate thread, this is technically possible. However, the amount of effort to make this work will be significant, not to mention that there are software and hardware updates to the headunits that you may or may not be able to obtain, making the operation of the device unreliable and unsupported by dealer/manufacturer. Mark SYNC Software Engineer Microsoft
  11. Theoretically possible, but would cost you lots of money (new Nav headunit, lots of custom installation costs)... So effectively, no.
