  1. No worries, MtnExplorer719!

Can you tell me your SYNC software version:

    https://owner.ford.com/tools/account/how-tos/keep-your-sync-up-to-date.html

    Joy

Hoping you meant me and not MtnExplorer719.

I logged in and it shows that my last update was October 5, 2015 and that I am up to date.

    The system shows the following information;

    CPU S/W version 3.08.15128.EA.10_PRODUCT

    Nav version 4.66.5

    Map database version A7

It acted up again this weekend when I was not streaming bluetooth from my phone but was listening to the radio.

  2. When I started the car on Saturday morning, I got a black screen that then went to the "Performing System Maintenance" screen. I still did the master reset later that day and had no problems with the maps. Until this morning. I again had navigation faults displaying on dashboard screen and a slow map display (not repainting, unresponsive to touch) multiple times today. The only difference was that I was streaming bluetooth music and podcasts today instead of using the radio. When it has problems, it also won't respond to steering wheel controls to control forward or reverse, but those work immediately on the phone.

My thoughts are that the bluetooth streaming with the map display is overloading the system. Is this a symptom of an APIM starting to fail?

  3.

I had the same problem with my A7 card failing after a couple of months. Some emails back and forth with HERE customer service got me an RMA. I received my replacement last week (too late for my trip) and put it in yesterday.

Put the new card in on Monday. Last night it started giving me nav failure messages while I was driving home. This morning it froze the entire My Ford Touch system for a couple of minutes. When it finally came back, navigation didn't work.

I know the card reader is fine because my A4 card worked while I was waiting the two weeks for my replacement to show up.

I'll try a master reset (again) this weekend, but after my last A7 card experience, I'm not holding out much hope for it. If that doesn't work,. I'm not sure what I'm going to do. I don't want to have to keep paying even MORE money to get replacements and keep trying them until I get one that works.

  4. What is consistent is that the A7 card will not read now yet it worked for 6,500 miles worth of use on a 13 state trip I took.

  5. Labor costs are what get you, TBH. The parts aren't that expensive once they have been in use for a couple of MYs. The problem is that getting to the part that failed is a major PITA. I find that in a lot of cases, the banjo bolts that Ford puts in end up leaking or clogging, causing problems. It's not the big items, but the small items are co-located with the big items, so the labor ends up being practically the same. Modern engine packaging for ya.

    Turbo: $1425

All Parts: $1644 (gaskets, sensors, etc)

    Labor: $674

    Labor:

  6.

But there are just as many if not more cases of non-Turbo engines and parts also failing at less than 100K miles. These are mechanical devices and things will break sometimes. But the turbos don't appear to be any more prone to failure than other parts.

I didn't say anything about that. I was only replying to "your husband is stuck in the 80's" statement above. And we don't know if they are more or less prone to failure unless they get reported. When I bought my Edge, the only thing I really had to go on in terms of reliability what Ford's talk about designing them for 150,000 miles. On the boards here we now have two cases of them failing before that. I'm just trying to give someone who is looking at it more information.

Would I buy an ecoboost again? Probably. I wouldn't rule it out because of this.

  7. With turbo engines, maintenance schedules are even more important than with the naturally aspirated ones. Indulge the vehicle with frequent oil changes, follow the severe duty schedule for that, especially if using the Motorcraft SynBlend 5W30 oil. This is one area you DON'T want to skimp on. The PCV system can be problematic on Ecoboost engines, though less so than many other manufacturers' turbo products.

Also look into a Ford ESP warranty, if you like to "prepay" your way. Aftermarket warranties have not held up against Ford's. I think you can decide up to the end of the new car warranty whether you want the best/maximum coverage, though price does go up a bit.

I did change the oil at the recommended intervals. However, the turbos aren't cooled with oil. Per a Ford press release:

"The EcoBoost approach eliminates several customer worries from previous turbocharger applications. Designed for long-life reliability, EcoBoost's turbochargers feature water-cooled bearing jackets. This architecture is designed to prevent oil "coking" that could occur in previous-generation turbochargers. The new design means that EcoBoost drivers don't need to observe special operating precautions, such as idling the engine before switching it off. The turbochargers are designed for a life cycle of at least 150,000 miles or 10 years."

I don't think an extended warranty would have helped with this becuase I'm at 106,000.

  8. So I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but it appears that after upgrading my iPhone 6s to iOS 9.2 every time I activate Siri through the voice command button it just automatically changes the source to bluetooth streaming. This appears to be an iPhone problem and not a Sync problem. I know people on the Escape forum are experiencing the same issues since updating their phone. It also appears to be an issue on Chevy's as well. I just wanted to let you know and hopefully Apple will find a fix quickly because I am really enjoying the eye's free function.

Thanks for confirming this. It did it today for the second time and I wasn't sure what had gone wrong.

  9. I had to do a repairing after this update. I have rebooted the iphone as well. I just updated to the 9.2 software this morning. (new update available as of friday) so I'll try it again now that the iphone is on the most current iOS now. I have my doubts that iOS update will correct this as it's just NOW out and the MFT update has been out since Oct.

Can anyone confirm their settings on the iPhone?

Tried it again last night. Worked as I remembered. It worked with 9.1 as well as 9.2.

I also tried opening an app and it refused to do that. I hadn't tried that before.

Not sure what setting you want be to report on.

  10. Ok, Lets test texting someone. "Text Brandon" (my son) "Hmmm I'm sorry I can't do that while you're in the car."

Test this with the iphone round button, works as expected.

Weird. Mine works fine with this. I tell Siri "Tell my wife I'm on the way home" and the message is sent.

I'll try to remember to play with it tonight to make sure I'm not making this up.

  11. After the update it seems that my Sirius radio seems to cut out whenever I go through an underpass. I can't recall if it happened prior to the update, but I really don't think so. I know it may seem trivial but I'm on the highway 2-3 times a day and it's annoying.

I doubt it's the update. Mine have always done this under certain underpasses around me. Like someone said above, there is a 3-4 secon buffering that occurs, but sometimes that's not enough. In addition, it also depends on the angle of the satellite that you are using at the time.

In thinking about it, it could be because of the update. I don't know how much of the software in the radio itself is changed from update to update, but there is a threshold that forces it to change to a different satllite. Maybe that changed?

  12.

Not if the tire diameters are the same (which they should be). You just get a taller sidewall.

    Which I will be doing.

As for why I'm changing, I just don't like the look of the 20" wheels/tires.

    Thanks all for your help.

  13. Hi,

I have a 2013 Edge Limited, FWD with the ecoboost. When I bought it, the wheels were a don't care compared with all the other things I was looking for. Now I'm thinking about switching to 18" wheels from the 20" ones that came with it. Problem is, with all the cars I've ever owned, I've never switched wheels so I don't know what to look for (manufacturer, etc) so I'm looking for some help. I've been looking through Tirerack and found 4 possible ones and I would like the groups opinion on them, not necessarily for looks, but more for functionality, strength, and anything else you can think of when picking out wheels.

Here's the four that I've narrowed it down to.

    Andros Spec S:

Advanti FS Fastoso (where do they get these names?)

    http://www.tirerack.com/wheels/WheelCloseUpServlet?target=runWheelSearch&initialPartNumber=FS8851435SSML&wheelMake=Advanti&wheelModel=FS%20Fastoso&wheelFinish=Bright%20Sil%20w%2FMach%20Lip&showRear=no&autoMake=Ford&autoModel=Edge+Limited&autoYear=2013&autoModClar=FWD

    Enkei Performance CUV

    http://www.tirerack.com/wheels/WheelCloseUpServlet?target=runWheelSearch&initialPartNumber=4957756545BMF&wheelMake=Enkei%20Performance&wheelModel=CUV&wheelFinish=Machined%20w%2FBlack%20Accent&showRear=no&autoMake=Ford&autoModel=Edge+Limited&autoYear=2013&autoModClar=FWD

    Platinum Divine

    http://www.tirerack.com/wheels/WheelCloseUpServlet?target=runWheelSearch&initialPartNumber=4107707BM40BMA&wheelMake=Platinum&wheelModel=Divine&wheelFinish=Black%20w%2FMilled%20Accent&showRear=no&autoMake=Ford&autoModel=Edge+Limited&autoYear=2013&autoModClar=FWD

    Thanks for your help.

  14. Last night, for some strange reason, I logged on to the ford owner site to see if there was a new version for my Sync. Found out there was (and a little bit of googling found out it was released this weekend). I installed it without any problem. They managed to keep my desitinations this time (but lost the wallpapers), but you have to re-pair your phones with system. Only other thing I noticed is that when I switch to bluetooth audio it not gives the same legal warning that the nav system does.

    Release notes are:

  15. You need to understand that Dealers are not Ford and Ford is not responsible for something your dealer did. There are state laws that prevent Ford from interfering in how the dealership operates. If you feel they did not store your vehicle properly then that's between you and the dealer, unfortunately. Ford can ask the dealer to help you but they have no legal way to force them, nor is it Ford's responsibility.

If you took your vehicle to the dealer for an oil change and they forgot to refill it with oil, do you still think Ford would be responsible for that? Of course not. Dealers are independent businesses protected by state franchise laws.

Because of these laws, you need to look to your state government for help. My father did that with a local Dodge dealer and when the state rep showed up, the dealership sat up and listened.

Yup, same here. Knocking on wood so far so good. Its been 4 months for me and about 4000K. All I have had to do was put gas in it. I would like to change the transmission fluid but looks like there is no dip stick with these cars so I'm forced to take it to Ford dealer and have them do it. They are extremely overpriced!

Because there is no dipstick, you have to take it to a dealship? I'm missing the connection. You could take it to any reputable transmission place.
