  1. You know, I've probably said this before but I will say it again. Dan's level of customer service is second to none! I had sent him an email describing how my left Edge2 light would not come on after an 1100 mile trip in constant pouring rain and asking what I might look for or test to try to repair the problem. Without any prompting from me, he replied that he would ship me a new set as replacement since the new ones have better waterproofing and are wired somewhat differently. I was blown away by his commitment to customer satisfaction - something you don't see a lot anymore.

    Many thanks Dan!

I completely agree with this. I also contacted Dan with a problem I was having with mine because of moisture in the original DRLs. Two days later, I have a completly new setup ready to be installed.

  2. When I bought my Ecoboost, I didn't bother doing the calculations you both did. At that time people on the boards were talking about a longer payoff period. Didn't matter to me. I keep my cars at least 10 years so I figured it would pay itself off at some point.

My biggest concern at the time was that Owe'Malley was floating some trial balloons about making the gas tax a percentage instead of fixed. They figured out that when gas prices go up, people drive less. That plus increasing CAFE regulations mean less money coming into the state. Because of all that, I just wanted to give them less of my money.

  3. What does this have to do with complaints about Ford customer service? The complaints with Ford vehicles and customer service are still there and this doesn't invalidate them.

Wasn't supposed to. Most of the time the complaints are against treatment from a DEALER. That;s what this was about. People tend to confuse DEALERSHIP customer service with FORD customer service. They are different businesses.

  4. Mods -- feel free to move if this isn't the correct place for this post.

My son has a Cobalt that is in the current recall from Chevy. The letter said to get it to the dealer NOW and they will pay for a rental car until parts are in and work is done. He called the dealership where he purchased it and was told that they were out of rental cars and wouldn't have until for a couple of weeks. After arguing with them for a while, he hung up them and called a dealership closer to us. They have a single point of contact for it (not a service manager) and she said the people she needs to coordinate with had gone home for the day, but her's would be the FIRST call they return so she will be calling him tomorrow to arrange the rental for him.

I told him he should have told the first dealer to call Enterprise and get him a damn car.

His first calls tomorrow are to Chevy and to the state licensing department.

Moral: Not always the manufacturer that is the problem. Change dealers if you need to. You have no loyalty to them.

  5. From a previous post I said I was on the fence between the 6 cyl. and the ECO. After negotiating with a few dealers I got a much better deal on the ECO model and couldn't be happier.   :) Rides great and has all the power I need. The 18" wheels are nice too. I would highly recommend the ECO unless you need to tow something. Its not yet broken in but the fuel economy seems good and should get better. I look at it this way, I got a great deal after a lot of shopping and negotiating, and if I want the comfort of a full size SUV this is the best choice with the ECO.

I got the SE model and hated the plastic inserts in the fog light cutouts. I can't believe Ford couldn't put the lights in on this model. Would of cost them very little. Got a set of Daytime Brightlights and had my mechanic install them. A bit expensive but they're REALLY NICE !!!  Even if you have the stock lights these are a big improvement. They also have "puddle lights" for under your rearview mirrors and just came out with replacement taillights. Nice stuff.

I have the Daytime Brightlights as well.  Absolutely love them. Also used their LEDs to switch interior and license plate light to LEDs.  Puddle lights are great too.  Got a set of them to install in my parents Flex to make it easier for them to see at night.  Stock ones on the Flex are really bad.

  6. The plug was in the sidewall? That's no good, you dramatically increase your chances of a blowout, regardless of legality.

At the very least, I would not go back to that dealership for future service. Who knows what else they will do, and really how much time do you want to waste?

If you like, you can report your experience to Ford Customer Service, so this dealership does not pull these stunts anymore.

I addition to reporting this to Ford, I would report them to any state agency that regulates new and/or used car dealers. As stated, they put the life of you and your passengers at risk. There is NO excuse for that kind of behavior.

  7. On existing products that have Microsoft SYNC....if Ford makes it available to reload the system with a version of Blackberry ONX, will they also offer to remove the "SYNC by Microsoft" logos in the car? Will this be a minimal cost upgrade, a full cost upgrade, or free upgrade?

I hope not. I love seeing the look on peoples faces when I use my Microsoft OS/2 mug.

  8. I think I've told this story here before, but I'm going to repeat it.

In 1985 I bought a Dodge Ramcharger. Read the Conaumers Report article about it where they said not to buy it. The reason they gave? Because it rode like a truck. It better!! That's what I got it for!

Haven't read anything from them since.

Love my Edge. Great ride. Quiet inside. Had a couple of reboots a version or to ago, but nothing with the latest version.

  9. I've never heard of them dropping in case of a fire. If you look, they are always held up by push pins, clips, glue, or other methods. I think they are just a sound deader and maybe a heat shield.

I thought the plastic clips job was to melt and drop it during a fire.

I also don't think it is a Ford thing to put it on models (the original post I was replying to). My Neon has it as well. That's about as cheap a car as you can get.

  10. I have never had enough faith in the vehicle computer to give me an accurate reading on my MPG. I've viewed it mostly as an estimate for short term feedback. While reading this comment it struck me that it's certainly within my ability to record what the computer says along with my mileage whenever I fill up the gas tank. My spreadsheet gives me a per tank MPG based on my actual miles and gas used data, so I can certainly add an extra column to document what the computer says just to compare the two figures over an extended period of time.

I use an app to track my mileage and I put in the notes what the computer said mileage was and how much was used. Always seems to be within a half gallon or so. Doing this I have noticed that position of the car (front end up/down hill, etc) does make a difference. Plus when you know about how much fuel you should put in, you notice that some pumps are very sensitive and cut off way too early.

I've really noticed that the sensitivity is turned way up on those pumps where you get a discount -- like at grocery stores where your purchases drop the price. Got a tankful for $1.54 the other day!

  11. I agree. But. .. Since I never owned a Ford. I saw it as "no oil." Ignorance in my part. All my other cars never have me a warning like that. I'm used to the oil light coming on briefly to show the cel light working. But that's what I was explained. It's too tell you the pump is working. Lol. Just not a good way too tell you imo. Again. . Doing a Google search. . Lots of others had the same concern and they even took it to the dealer to be told that is normal. One guy said it should be written in the manual in big letter for dummies. Haha

That's weird because all of the cars that I have had that had idiot lights (Dodge, Chevy and Ford) instead of analog gauges always turned all the lights on when you first started them. This is going back to a 74 Dart. Like akirby said, it's the only way you know the lights work or not. I remember my father getting mad at me when I didn't notice that one of them didn't work one time.
