  1. akirby = Would like to preface anything I post as being constrcutive criticism and not sheer negativity. I do like the Edge, short of its colassal issue(s). I respect you like Ford and the Edge: However, my last (3) yrs of doing business with Ford (not dealer) has proved lacking. It is very apparent Ford needs 'better skilled' techs out there, because there appears to be a lot of faulty repairs being done with this PTU failure/defect. As for all teh fixes that have 'stuck' for any extended period of time; I would be willing to bet that they are southern (warm) state cars. The cold simply triggers this failure more often than not. And for any customer service from ford, nonexistent. Whatever business model they're are implementing with this Edge debacle stinks from the get go. Definitely not building lasting customers. Not sure how they can skirt BBB and lemon law (at least in MN) when the powertrain is still applicable, and the vehicle qualifies per letter of the law.
  2. I just joined this forum today and have been reading, a lot. Im not totally surpised to hear about the many others having same/similar PTU troubles. It is troublesome, however, to know Ford is doing nothing in good faith to remedy an issue they know damn well was coming - ringing true to Toyota's form.
  3. As an owner of an 07 Edge with a plethora of PTU issues; it sounds like a prelude to a much bigger transmission failure. Our Edge did several tell-tale things prior to it starting to leak transmission fluid. I'm aware that part of the unsolvable PTU issue is cold weather exposure related; as it appears to affect the inadequate seals causing them to warp/shrink, what have you. Long and short - the flawed design hates cold weather. Havent heard about this as much in the warmer weather states. Given what I know now about this Edge tranny design, I would encourage you to get rid of it, or anticipate headaches to come.
  4. Yes, u can file lemon on car in MN with same defect 5x under 3yrs. Ive had 2 very quality and respectable dealers Work on the car all 5x. Cert'd ford field techs personally worked on 2 of the overhauls. Ive been advised and am aware The ptu is part of the powertrain 60k warranty. Dont want this headache anymore.
  5. Bought a 2007 Ford Edge off the lot in 2008. Has been in the shop for the defective PTU assembly/seals 5x w/in last 3yrs. EVERY fix has been done on it as recent as two weeks ago. 4 days after having it home, it dumped transmission fluid all over our garage floor. 2 bags of oil dry later, it was in the shop getting fixed for its 5th time. The indicia of the problem was tell-tale from everyone elses; leaking fluid onto manifolds smoking up into cab (toxic fumes, Great!), Noticeable wobble in the transmission when starts to fail - can feel it right up to the gear shifter in the cab. I have filed claim with BBB in our respective state as Ford said there was nothing they could do as the warranty expired at 36k miles. All they 'would' do was send out a field tech to look at it. I advised them your FT's had already 'looked' at it and replaced the whole thing. I begged to differ as the issue is exclusively POWER-TRAIN related, which is covered under the 5yr - 60k mile warranty. The customer care folks I spoke with claimed this POWER-TRAIN defect isnt covered and simply ignored or stalled any other inquiries? It was a lot of wasted time trying to relate the obvious to said customer care unit. The shop we've had ours fixed at the last 3 times said there is no permenant fix. All fixes are temporary and it WILL fail again. We just broke 50k on ours. Was in shop 2x within first 2 months of ownership with less than 2000 miles. Additional issues experienced with this vehicle: -Poor heat circulation to the feet - almost non-existent - recv'd a TSB about a potentially bad heater core, but ours was flushed and allegedly checked out 'OK'. -Faulty CD player - will fail to play or exchange CD's at times.
