  1. You have to get the antenna for the remote start module up behind the rearview mirror. I can get at least 100' distance in most cases and from my 5th floor office I can start the car from the middle of a rather large parking lot. The only thing I don't like about the system is the soft single honk I get confirming the signal (which is almost impossible to hear unless you're really near the car) and the parking lights are almost useless in the daylight if you're trying to see if the car is running. One thing I love about the system is when I pull up to a store and I have the kids in the back watching a movie, I can press the start button and then I'm able to take the keys out of the iginition and still keep the car running. Obviously this will only work for quick errands (less than 5 minutes), otherwise the car will turn off.
  2. Well I don't have an AWD, but after doing the install myself with the OEM remote start module - I would find it hard to believe it was completely a plug and play process. The OEM module did have a few PnP connectors but there are still several wires you have to splice into the harness (like the horn, driving lights, brake switch, etc.). Anyway, if you need to splice anything I found my "process of elimination" technique saved me a lot of worry since there are a lot of wires in the Edge
  3. I just installed mine this weekend - works fine so far.
  4. I had the same problem at 7k too. Dealer replaced it - no problems since.
  5. I have had this problem. Actually I have the grill, front logo, and scores of chips on the hood Ironically I don't have chips on the front bumper. Anyway, I haven't said anything to the dealership about this yet. My guess is they are going to blame it on road conditions.
  6. Hi everyone, This may be a dead thread, but I thought I'd let you all know I installed the Ford factory remote start on my Edge this weekend. For the most part it was very straight forward. I learned a trick on how to find the correct wires around the fuse panel if anyone wants to attempt this install in the future. There are a series of bundled wire connectors around the fuse box. All you need to do is unplug a connector and see if the device you are trying to locate stops working. Then inspect the wires in that bundle for the proper wire color combination. This tip saved me a lot of time and worry. Also, there's really no good place to come through the firewall, so I found a grommet just in front of the driver's side mirror. I removed the plastic trim piece and ran the hood switch wire through the grommet to the hood. If you need pictures - let me know and I will post them. HTH, Paul
  7. Hi Lex, I did my install this weekend but I have not wired up the video box yet. What wire (color) did you tap into at the dash to get switched power for the unit? Thanks for the wire color for the reverse lights - that will be most helpful! By the way, I was able to run the camera wire through the sleeve; but you are correct - it is not easy. I had to cut the electrical tape around the wire bundle and I used a fish tape to pull the wire through. I plan to post some pictures as soon as I get the power hooked up. Thanks in advance for any help on that Paul
  8. I have a Nano and basically gave up using it with my Edge. I went and bought a USB thumb drive and loaded all my ripped CDs to it. Works great and if it gets lost / stolen I won't lose sleep over $20.
  9. I reset the MPG with each fill up and that helps me keep close tabs on my driving.
  10. I have the headrest DVD system in my Edge. the kids use the IR headphones mostly, but you can use the FM modulator to play the sound through the car speakers. Of course the quality is only as good as FM.
  11. I don't have an answer for you on a bumper guard but if you have the trailer hitch I would suggest putting a hitch and ball in it. It does offer a little more protection.
  12. This method "works" but you can mess up the plastic that way. All you really need to do is take the long end of the allen wrench and insert it into the hole and push in while you lift up on the head rest. There's a metal spring clip that prevents the slotted shaft on the head rest from coming all the way out. The hole allows you to push in the spring clip. You do not need to remove the plastic clip using this method. HTH. Paul
