  1. I'd strongly advise against Lease-to-own. You always end up paying more for the car in the end.

     

    HAve you investigated getting a Loan through your own bank?

     

    EDIT: I'm not against leasing the car, I am just against lease-to-own. IF you do lease, follow the advice of Exodus.

  2. If you want better performance, as in handling, go with the Sport. If you want a better ride and potentially better fuel economy, stick with 18's. I have 18's on my Limited and I love the way the Edge drives. I think the handling is perfectly acceptable for a 4200lbs vehicle with some decent ground clearance. Don't expect a sports car, but the Edge always feels well grounded in regular driving.

  3. The F150 also has 4 adjustable cams (TiVCT) and the others only have 2 (iVCT). Also the F150 has completely different turbos.

     

    I had read the turbos were different, but hadn't heard about the additional Cams. Interesting.

  4. I hope this engine makes it to the Edge at least on the Sport model it's a 3.5L EcoBoost with 350HP & 350 torque...I believe it's the same EcoBoost engine from the F-150

     

    The F-150 is also tuned for 420 lb/ft of torque, and the F-150 motor is mounted longitudinal versus transverse mounts in the Taurus, Flex, and now Explorer. Save for those differences, it is the same motor.

  5. So I was reading a Motor Trend the other day at an office and I spotted an article for the 2013 Ford Explorer Sport. I went home and checked out the internet for information and it was all over the place.

    I found this intriguing. I love my Edge, but a part of me wanted the Explorer for the additional space (cargo), the rear AC controls, and some of the AWD upgrades (not so much the terrain select, but some of the hardware upgrades I've read about). My biggest gripe with the Explorer was the additional cost, the somewhat reduced MPG (particularly the highway), and the fact it used the same 3.5 as the edge (the Edge seemed noticeably quicker). I did consider the Flex for a brief period, but between the older 3.5 and the limited stock of Ecoboosts in my area, it never became an option.

     

    Among the competition, I decided against the Jeep Grand Cherokee and Dodge Durango given the lower MPG ratings and since the V6 felt sluggish compared to the Fords. The Hemi V8 was a little to thirsty for my tastes, and would have driven up the price tag. The Journey was nice, but it was a bit more shy in passenger space than the Edge, and I didn't have the same faith in its capabilities as I did with the Edge. I didn't exactly love the GM models (Traverse and the equivalents), and again felt they were a bit slower than the Fords.

     

    But now the Explorer gets the Ecoboost 3.5. Mileage doesn't look that bad, and it's going to move noticeably better than before. Price would be more of an issue, but this would have been an interesting option at the least. It makes me wonder if the Edge will get an SHO or SVT treatment with this powertrain given the Explorer has it. I know the platforms are not identical, but it would be interesting to see if they do it despite the Sport 3.7's.

     

    Thoughts anyone?

  6. Anybody in the NNJ area have a fully functional MFT that might be able to meet up one day? I see lots of posts where people find the system is running smooth and working well and I am just wondering if I am expecting more if mine really does suck. Hoping to play around with it this weekend and see if USB drives work again as well as play with the BT audio and see if there is some setting on the phone I need to change.

  7. They probably left the wheel gap to leave a certain level of ride-comfort and suspension travel. The height difference could be that the suspension on the vehicle you looked at was new (not broken in) and thus sprung a little more than normal. Most data I've read reflects they are all the same height, otherwise.

  8. NatG do you have anymore info on this "throttle over-hang"? It seems to describe my issue well but I can't find anything else about it on the Internet.

     

    I had first read about it on contour.org (hopefully still up, it was another forum) when I had my Ford Contour. Basically, the throttle holds an RPM to burn the remaining air/fuel mixture in the engine to reduce emissions. However, if in this period you decelerate, it will hold out the gear a bit longer than it should.

  9. When I log in to syncmyride is just says it needs a dealer install and to click there for a printout and that fees may apply!?!? WTF!!?? We're at 2.11 already and have NAV so I am really hoping we get the upgrades in the mail because I want to do it myself and sure am not paying a dealer to do so for warranty work. We never got the letter either... hrmmm, frustrating.

     

    That's really bizarre. I suggest you call customer service. The software is up on the site, and I never found a prompt saying there's payment required. Infact, all the press releases say the dealers will do it for free.

  10. I've had my 2011 Limited for 10 months now. Love the MFT, Love the car as a whole. Although I feel sympathy for those with problems, there are an outspoken few that are a little too radical and misrepresent the facts. Aside from the fact that I agree with Akirby's sentiments, I also need to point out that it's nice to have a moderator whom is actually involved with the community (in discussions) and not one that just lurks. I feel he's been more than fair with warnings. I've seen Akirby make concessions in debates.

     

    I'd definitely recommend the Edge to family, friends, and readers. As someone who works in customer service (not automobile related), and as a consumer myself, I think it's wise to exercise caution when buying ANYTHING, and you should try any car prior to commiting to feel out the systems and try to spot issues. Obviously somethings are not always evident on inspection, but there's nothing without risk.

  11. Find a specialty Car Audio shop. I would almost guarantee there's already an aftermarket option with a new dash bezel.

    I'd still say give it time. I guess the newer systems are that much more complex. I have a friend who works on audio upgrades, unfortunately not on Fords. As suggested in the linked topic, you can do basic Amp/Speaker upgrades.

  12. Initially I was looking at a 2011 SEL. Purchased a 2011 Limited. I can tell you from personally experience, the SEL did not sounds good. The SONY is much much better. However, I wouldn't recommend buying a car strictly for the upgraded Audio. The cash you save can be used to upgrade it to something that will surpass the SONY sound system.

     

    Didn't notice a huge difference in comfort in Cloth versus Leather: I felt the Leather was a bit more supportive. I don't think it was an SEL that I sat in with CLoth, though. I think it was an SE.

  13. I had a Ford Contour 2.5L V6 with a flow-master muffler. I kept the original exhaust size (2.5" at best, I think it may have been 2"). Sounded deep at idle and aggressive (not ricer) when you rev it up.

     

    So with a 3.5L, I think you'd do find. As LEMMON1 said, don't go too large on the diameter with the exhaust. You need the right amount of back pressure.

  14. Hey guys - does the MFT in an MKX/Edge allow us to play music from a USB key? I tried with one and it told me it was an unsupported device - but it was also 32GB so I'm not sure if perhaps size was part of the problem ;)

    Use a drive smaller than 32GB (not a requirement, just a recommendation). I have a 16GB, and it works fine for the most part. If you add music, it has to completely re-index the music, and that takes more time based on the size of the jump drive.

     

    As Akirby said, FAT32 partition, and non-DRM.
