  1. Really? Can you post some links to those posts? I've been trolling around here reading for over an hour and I haven't found a single one.
  2. Ever since my infamous week long update fiasco I refuse to do these updates and have my dealer install under warranty. Let them bill Ford for the time! The 2.7 or 2.8 can't remember now update completely hosed my system. Thankfully it was the dealer so there was no chance they could blame me and refuse a rental while it sat in the shop connected via a laptop to Ford. It took them a week to get it working again only to find it had forgotten it had Nav. So back to the dealer it went for another three days! All that for an update. Me...I am going to take my car to the dealer EVERY time there is an update if nothing else than protect myself from any blame and cost Ford as much money as possible for the problems they've caused me. What's sad is I'm in the market for a 2013 Shelby and really want Nav but just can't see going through this with two cars! Maybe I'll just update my 07 and call it a day!
  3. I don't suppose it could be yet another MFT issue now could it? No, not the much maligned and hated system from Ford, that can't be at fault! Nope no way! It must be the #1 customer satisfaction iPod, iPhone or iOS that's the problem here!
  4. Just wondered if it would be a good time to move this thread to the Owner Impressions area rather than what's really a technical and self-help area?
  5. I just wanted to respectfully disagree with this statement. As I've said, this is what I do for a living and software IS software. It doesn't have bugs on some installations (forgetting actual install issues) and not others. Code is not different on one car versus another. It's the same code. Given that you can't say some are having issues and not others. That's just not how it works. What is different is user behavior and features or functions used. If I am a casual user, don't use the Nav very often, don't own or use the bluetooth connection, I may not see the issues others do simply because I'm not using that feature. Let's make up a scenario, if I go to weather, and I am on a trip using the Nav, when I return to the map the system will, within a few minutes freeze up. Now a user who does this as well, WILL have the same issue, however someone that does not will travel error free. This doesn't meant the system is working for some and not others, it means two users are not using the system in the same way and therefore not reproducing the problem. But make no mistake the issue IS present in BOTH cars. In a real example, if I use my Nav for short trips, of 20-30 min, it's typically fine. However I make quite a few "road trips" and during these trips the system becomes unstable. It freezes, reboots, etc., multiple times during an extended journey. Now the same fault exists in ALL units but if most owners use the nav around town they may not see the issue as often if at all. That said the bugs are present in BOTH vehicles. The perspective to keep in mind then is not that this is some hardware intermittent issue that effects x% of the units sold. This is a software defect that is present in ALL units sold and a persons degree of frustration then is directly proportional to the way the use and the level of use of a particular system function. So while I agree there are some users who are not having issues, it's for no other reason than they are not using the system in the same way or to the extent other users are. BTW: Did you know that if you boot your computer, and don't touch it, chances are it won't crash and will give you 100% uptime for months on end? Get the idea?
  6. BTW: Even though I am the first owner, and have registered on the web site, had it in the shop 4 times for a total of 3 weeks, for MFT issues, etc., I have yet to get this email.
  7. I'm sure there are some happy users, no doubt, but according to an industry wide study they are few and far between! Factory sat-navs continue to frustrate motorists: study http://www.caradvice.com.au/148308/factory-sat-navs-continue-to-frustrate-motorists-study/ BTW: You need to click on the graphic and scroll to the bottom of the barrel to find how the Edge's Nav system rated.
  8. Wow…you mean the Flash that Adobe just canceled for anything other than desktop computers? That Flash? For me, again as a software product manager, there is NO WAY I would have agreed to using Flash as the foundation for something like MFT. Look, it's easy to blame BSQUARE but the FACT is there should have been someone at Ford that reviewed the MRD and the Technology Plan and the Functional Specification and said "no way Flash". Apple clearly saw the issues with Flash yet the decision-maker at Ford slept. If the Edge was "fully dependent" then they should have taken the same care and due diligence they would for any other part on the car. The reality is here they didn't, or weren't qualified to, make the right call. As soon as BSQUARE mentioned Flash they should have been shown the door. Of course now I'm worried the new system is written in the soon to be killed Microsoft Silverlight! Anyone want to place bets on that!?!? Look, I'm sorry if I am bitter but this is what I do for a living, and at a scale Ford could only dream of, and it's just sad to see the promise of this system not realized. I shouldn't be telling people not to buy a car with the system installed! Ford I should be singing its praises! I wish I was. In the meantime seriously go hire a 3rd party QA team and have them test it, test it, test it. Finally, speed IS NOT the issue. It's the crashing! Back in the early days of Mac OS9 we had a list of user issues. #2 was the time it took the system to reboot. We had a big update and soon after found that the time to reboot issue had fallen to #11 or something yet we had done nothing to speed that up! The answer was the system crashed less! So users had to reboot less and it was no longer a priority. So please make things WORK so I don't have to do things 2 or 3 times while I drive and notice the speed. I'd just be happy if it worked. Seriously.
  9. Gary Jablonski you and your team should be ashamed of this thing! I am a software product manager at a Fortune 1, before that at Apple, so maybe it's me…but reading this letter made my skin crawl and as a Product Manager I would be ashamed! "Ford has held four customer clinics in which hundreds of owners talked directly to Ford engineers about their experiences with the new technology. Owner feedback was clear and consistent, revealing that MyFord Touch was a key purchase reason." User experience has NOTHING what so ever to do with why-to-buy and or demand generation. "Purchase reason" is pre-sales, and "user experience" post-sales. It seems to me that the "experiences" were nothing to write about so all you were left was "this is why I bought the car…but it's been nothing but a failure". "While owners reported that they love the system, there were distinct areas where they wanted improvements." Looking around…anyone here "love the system"? <<Insert Crickets Joke Here>> The reality we all loved what the system promised but ended up HATING what it delivered, or failed to deliver. "Earlier this year, Ford started delivering on their requests, beginning with more instructions and information on how to best utilize the capabilities of the system." Oh, I see, it's a user problem! WE ARE TO BLAME because WE USERS don't understand your crappy UI! Tell me Gary, does my inexperience cause the system to freeze? Does it case the system to reboot? Does it cause the system to just have a black screen? I'm sorry! I'll for sure get on-line and take some training videos! “Evolving the software with meaningful enhanced features was part of our plan from the very beginning. It’s no different than the experience with our smartphones and laptop computers – except now, it’s your car that gets better.” Gary, I don't want you to "evolve" the software. I JUST WANT WHAT IS THERE TO WORK! Do you understand how angry I am that I spent over $3000 for a system I can't get to stay working for more than an hour or so of driving? As an owner, watching the Ford commercials for MFT, is a painful experience. I have no pride in ownership! Friends snicker in the car when the system dies on me….with "how much did you pay for this"? How sad is it that I need to use my iPhone for Nav because I can't trust the MFT system not to freeze and leave me far past my exit. My 2007 GT500 with NAv has NEVER had an issue Gary! NOT ONE! and as far as UI and system responsiveness, runs rings around the 2011 MFT. It's for sure pretty but it doesn't work. Anyway, I am currently driving with the rear camera image frozen on my screen…later today I will AGAIN pull the fuse and see if I can get it to clear. Of course I will loose EVERYTHING again and get to try MySync which given how often I have to do that is the one great thing about the system! Thanks Gary!
  10. How about Ford focus (no pun intended) on getting the system to work as is before they add more features that don't work!
  11. Keep us updated…I may not be too far behind you…I can't express my complete frustration with this system and Ford's arrogance in promoting it the way they do. The product manager should be shown the door.
  12. Here is what I have: SYNC Version Gen2 - V2.8 BT4T-14D546-AM BT4T-14D546-FA BT4T-14D546-GA SYNC compatible software BT4T-14F496-AP SYNC compatible software BT4T-14F497-AM SYNC compatible software BT4T-14F500-BE BT4T-14F603-AM While I REALLY appreciate the advice the last time the dealer tried to do an "update" the car lost all Navigation and took 6 days in the shop and Ford's intervention to get it working again so I think I'll pass. I can just see the same thing happening and you can be sure I'll be blamed for doing it wrong and for sure won't get a rental car while my new car sits in a shop bay with a laptop connected to it. The REAL issue here is the system has serious bugs and performance issues yet Ford STILL runs around on TV promoting it, just saw a Ford Fusion Hybrid commercial where they specifically rave about Sync and Nav, when they know full well it's problematic at best! I'm tired of being the sucker to the tune of $3000 that has to carry around my iPhone running Tom Tom because I have no idea when it will just freeze and I'm miles off track because I'm paying attention to the road and not looking down every 5 min.
  13. What are you hoping they can do? This is a Ford issue and there is no fixing it until Ford does. I've lived in this HELL since June and have gone from "this system is cool" to " HATE the system", so thanks Ford! I had the same issues with freezing and reboots and the car was in the shop for three weeks over my first month and a half of ownership connected through some laptop to Ford and they couldn't even get it right! In fact the first time they "fixed" it the system lost all Nav functions! It's a sad sad mess and the biggest waste of $3000 I have ever spent. I now always have my $69 Tom Tom app on my iPhone as a backup…yeah sad. BTW: It froze twice this weekend while on an out of state trip…missed my exit.
  14. It's a junk Nav system that reboots or worse freezes when your driving…meanwhile you miss your exit. Did it to me twice this weekend while traveling. It's been this way since I bought the car (2011 Edge) and has been wiped and reloaded THREE times by the dealer and connected to Ford and STILL it has issues. Of course when it does this it wipes out all your setting, previous destinations, and addresses. My 2007 Shelby has NO issues with it's old and not so pretty Nav…but it works!
  15. Sorry I should have been more specific...it took Ford a week not the dealer. The dealer installed the 2.8 update and suddenly we lost all navigation, which may very well have been a dealer install issue, it was as if the car didn't come with it! The dealer gave up trying to fix it and Ford had them connect a laptop to the car which in turn was connected to Ford so they could troubleshoot and reinstall the entire software suite. This went on for OVER a week with every attempt by Ford still leaving the system with no navigation. FINALLY they got it all to take and Nav returned! It's fine for an hour or so, more than most people drive for a typical trip, but soon after it starts with these random reboots and "performing scheduled maintenance" screen but regardless it's unsat. The nav portion of the system really doesn't do much more than my 2007 unit that has been rock solid for 4 years! I also want to point out that it did this when we were going through the delivery checklist and the sales person was showing us the features! at the time he was like "wow...never seen it do that..."..looking back I'm not sure to laugh or cry. Reading the threads here, and elsewhere, as well as reviews for the system, it's really time for Ford to step up, for owners to stop making excuses for Ford, as the system should JUST WORK!
