  1. I have XM in one car and Sirius in the other. Liked it when I had a 2 hour commute, not so much with my current 8 minute trip to work. When the free period runs out, I will not subscribe. I really don't see any benefit to paying for it when I can get plenty of radio for free and it doesn't drop every time I'm under an overpass or in a tunnel. I tried to buy a vehicle with out satellite radio and if I'd ended up ordering one I would have done without, but I got great deals on both vehicles and negotiated the price down to compensate for the unwanted additions. The dealers were welcome to, and encouraged to, remove the satellite equipment, both choose not to do so.

Similar situation here. Not a long commute, listen to local morning show, plus gives me traffic. On the way home I usually have my IPOD playing through the FM receiver, can't wait for that to go away.

  2. I am looking to purchase a Edge shortly and am looking at Limited's that are pretty loaded. All of them have the Sirius Satellite Radio and I have no use for it. Will listen to my IPOD mostly. It's only $195.00 but I know that I won't use it, so it bugs me that I am paying for it. Can it easily be taken off or is is there because I want the NAV and its part of the package? If it can't be removed, what is the likely hood of getting something else thrown in for similar cost? I want front splash guards ($25), Premium Carpeted Floor Mats in ebony ($69) and a Cargo Area Protector ($90). They all total $184, so less than the Sirius price tag and I will use them. I just wanted to see what the thoughts were on this and what would be the best approach with a salesman to take.

  3. They're coming two at a time now:

I bought the wife a new Firemist Red 2007 SEL+ on a Saturday, she let me take it Sunday and Monday I bought a Copper (orange) 2007 SEL+ one for myself! Can you say 0% for 60 months? WOW!

I choose to think the rapid growth in popularity may bode well for our civilization: look at all the smart people out there! :yup: There may be hope for us after all!

I have had nothing short of a spectacular experience with the two we bought (so far), and I am really enjoying the fuel efficiency (coming from an Expedition). I will save about 20% on fuel on both vehicles - I was using $400 a month and my wife $125, so that's about $100 a month at todays prices.

I gave nothing up in the ride department either! Nice. :hysterical:

    VagabonEdge,

Is that 0% a special on the 2007's or specific to your area? I have not seen that available, but have been looking at 2008's.

  4. Mine is 08 dk blue w camel interior. I have the factory carpeted mats along with the optional all weather rubber mats on top of them. Seems to be working out ok. In the summer I plan to remove the rubber and factory carpeted mats and replace them with the catch-all carpeted all weather moulded mats in black for the summer months. I just think this is a better combination for the warm weather months when flip flops and sandals are in order most of the time. I like the black due to the contrast with the camel seats and also due to its ability to hide dirt. I've done this in my 2 explorers as well and it seems to work out well. As for the cargo area there are 2 schools of thought. The weathertech for ultimate protection of course, or the catch-all carpeted liner if that kind of protection is not needed. I also think the carpeted cargo liner keeps things quieter back there as well, the edge has a lip as well to protect against spills. Either way, you cant go wrong.

    Goatee,

A few people have mentioned that they are using black carpeted mats in their Camel interiors, but I have yet to see a picture. Any chance you can provide one? I think they would look good because even some of the Camel interior is black, dask, doors, molding, etc. Debating between a Camel and Charcoal interior, I prefer Charcoal and the wife likes the Camel. I just know that the Camel will show more, especially in the floor mat area. Hope to see some pics.

    Thanks

  5. I have the Heatshield Model 183 for my 2008 Edge mentioned above (made by Canvas Works in Sunnyvale, CA) , and can say that yes, it fits the windshield exactly like shown. Like it was custom fit & trimmed with an exacto knife!

    Features worth mentioning:

    1. Fits the shape of the windshield perfectly. Exact custom shape and notch for the rearview mirror allows the shade to fit closely against the glass, without overlapping the headliner or A pillars. Like a second windshield against the inside of the glass one.

    2. No gaps that hang open around the edges. Seals it completely, unlike those accordian style or two-piece types.

    3. High quality space age material with heavy duty hemmed edge (no pun intended) all around and quilt-stitched across entire surface.

    4. Sturdy and rigid, but lightweight (a few ounces!) and flexible enough to be easy to put in place/remove in mere seconds. Stays in place perfectly with just the visors folded down on it, even when hot (when the 'others' tend to fail and you find them laying across your dash..).

    5. Rolls up into itself and secures with velcro strip that is permanently sewn on, for stowing.

Mine was just shy of $45.00 total to my door via UPS, came in 4 days. This may seem a bit expensive compared to a common "1 size fits all" shade that you could pick up in your local Auto Parts or Wal-Mart type store, but side-by-side... there really is no comparison.

    Highly recommended.

    Gman,

Thanks for the mini review, sounds great. Can you tell me the dimensions of the shield when all folded up and velcroed? Fit in the seat back pocked? Under seat? Where do you store yours when not in use?

  6. Since people from Ford are reading this string, I wanted to mention a post that was just put over on the Blue Oval (Edge) forum:

I few people have questioned why the BAMR controls are lighted on the MKX and not the Edge. Someone just added a post saying that he took the switch control apart hoping to add LED's to the switches and lo and behold: The are ALREADY there! Apparently they are not lighted because Ford did not run a wire up the A-pillar from the dash lighting controls to the switch. This wire is on the Lincoln. What's even more puzzling is that the Edge DOES have the necessary ground wire.

This just makes no sense. The sunroof controls really should be lighted in these vehicles and if the LED's are already there, why leave out a 10 cent wire? Ford should issue a service bulletin for this and install the wire to illuminate these controls if a customer requests it.

I am by no means an electrical expert, especially when it comes to automobiles, but there has to be power up there for the roof right? Could it be tapped into for the lights?

I still don't understand why they wouldn't hook it up. I know the Edge shares parts with the MKX but why would you skimp out on putting in a wire. It's not a huge expense and its more a convience thing than a luxury item. I wouldn't buy the MKX just because it has the lighted switch up there. I am sure there must be a relatively easy way to get this hooked up. I hope some of the more electrically inclined can assist.

  7. I agree with the WeatherTech mats - I have had them before. I agree, First rate product and they protect well. Another option to consider - although not a rubber or vinyl type of mat is the Catch-All Carpeted mats. Color is a matter of taste - I have the camel interior and opted for the black Catch-All carpeted mats - depending on where you live - these may be a better choice for the summer or drier months if you prefer the feel of carpet as opposed to rubber or vinyl. I had a set of these in my 99 Explorer EB in camel and loved them, they did get dirty fast though due to the light color. Since the Edge has a black dash that's why I had the mats in black - I think the contrast is nice. I plan to l use my catch-all mats in the summer on top of the factory rubber mats and just leave the factory rubber mats in place for now. Like I said, its a matter of taste - either way these are good products.

    Goatee,

Any chance of seeing some pictures of your black Catch-All carpeted mats in your camel interior? How good of a fit or match to the factory carpeted mats are the Catch-All's?

  8. Go for the Weather Tech Floor Liners for the 08 Edge. I just got them and they are awesome! they cover so much area then just standard mats and look awesome. I have the camel interior so I went with the camel floor liners and they look great, glad i didnt go with black. got the camel cargo liner to from w-tech and thats awesome as well. Little pricey, but well worth in protecting the easily soiled camel carpet.

Can you post pictures of your Weather Tech floor liners? Would like to see them in front seats, back seats and cargo. Thought I read somewhere that their tan doesn't really match the Camel on the Edge?

  9. got it today. pretty nice and NO bubbles! always one of my concerns, even when they say "no bubbles" on these types of screen protectors. real easy to install: credit card and the product and push it on. nice little piece of protection.

    Lex,

Can we get some pictures? Would like to see how it looks without a protector and with. How fingerprint resistant is it?

  10. Is this what you are looking for?

These are made for your vehicle. I have one for my Mazda (and had one for the Cavalier we replaced). They work very well and keep it cool. They roll up as well. Will be buying one for the Edge too when it gets Spring time.

    Edge Heatshield

There are others too that are solid. My brother has this one for his MR2 and likes it as well - can remember the name.

    Solas

Wow, that looks pretty cool. Usually they are "One Size Fits All" and seem to not look very nice. This one is an exact fit and looks nice. I would like to know if anyone has purchased this and does it work as well as it looks?

  11. Has anyone ever purchased a dealer demo? Local dealer mentioned they had a fully loaded Limited that was brought in for a manger to demo. Salesman said they maybe ready to sell it. Not sure of the specifics, mileage, etc. Just curious if anyone has ever purchased one. Is it still considered new? Can you get the new car financing, x-plan pricing, rebates, etc? I would assume they would discount it heavily in order to sell it. Any information would be appreciated.

  12. OK. I guess the wife had a senior moment when she put the rear mats in, and I followed suit. The rear mats DO fit fine....just needed to switch positions. :shades:

Unfortunately, though, the camel flooring that is exposed (entry to rear area, left foot rest for driver, hump in the rear, seems to get dirtier than anything we've ever owned from Ford. We're not in a particulary muddy or dirty area. Even our dealer said that he was upset about how quickly the carpeting gets dirty as well.

Interesting on the White Sand color... we believe it looks better than the creme, and we keep getting stopped by people interested in our vehicle, even drivers of the Lexus and Beemers.

    Rusty

Glad to hear the mats fit and it wasn't a problem after all. That's a bummer about the camel getting so dirty easily. That is my concern with the camel interior over the charcoal. The wife really likes the Camel and White Sand, so do I but don't want to have to clean it ever day. I haven't seen any Limited's in White Sand and Charcoal. Well hope to be making the decision soon, have to see whats available when I go to buy.

Any chance for some pictures of the black mats in the camel interior? Also, show us some pictures of the parts that are getting dirty and what they look like. I can only imagine how bad the Medium Light Stone would be as it is almost white in color.

  13. First off let me say that I've been lurking on here for a few months now waiting for my chance to post my first impressions. Well I finally got my Edge! I had to lemon law my 07 Sport Trac and what a long process it was. But it was well worth it. I got an 08 SEL, Dark Ink Blue, Vist Roof, and Camel Leather interior. First thing i noticed was how much better the leather seat are in the Edge over the Sport Trac. I am very pleased with the Edge so far but I had 2 problems right off the bat. I've got the roof rattle that I have to take it in for and the night that I took it home I noticed that there weren't any fog lamps. I checked my paperwork and yup, I was supposed to have the fog lamps. So I took it back and they ordered the parts. Other then that I am very happy with it. So far I've got it tinted and changed my headlamps to PIAA Extreme White Plus and my highbeams with Silverstar Ultras. I'll post some pics later.

Congratulations on the purchase. Have only seen one Dark Ink Blue, thought it was black, but it was an overcast day. Love to see some pictures of it in the sun. Weird that your SEL would not have fogs as they are supposed to be standard on that model. Not super familiar with the lights you swapped out, they give you a brighter, whiter look? Similar to HID's? What type of cost?

  14. Has anyone been able to define what the "Sport Suspension" entails? Different shocks, springs, sway bar, etc? The question was asked early on, but as far as I can tell in searching the forums it has not been answered. I am trying to determine if I want to go with the 20" wheels and sport suspension that Ford offers or go with and aftermarket wheel and springs kit.

Any information that can be provided will be greatly appreciated.

  15. What i think is inferior to other autos is the price range is the quality of the interior materials. The hard surface materials need to be upgraded, although i think the layout and look is great.

I have seen this referenced before, that the hard surface materials need to be upgraded. Can you elaborate on this? I presume you are referring to items such as dash, doors, arm rests, etc. I think that these items are all molded plastic. I know that some are a little softer such as the arm rest. I am not sure how these would upgraded?

I would also like to see indicator lights intergrated into the side mirrors similar to the Madza CX9GT.

Are you wanting this for looks or is there a more practical reason, saftey, awareness, etc? Are you referring to the type that actually has an arrow on the mirror part, or more like the Mercedes design which is actually an amber light on the side of the mirror?

  16. I have been looking for an 2008 Edge Limited and am getting close to pulling the trigger. My local dealer has been very helpful.

In this last Sunday's auto section another local dealer ran an ad with a special on a 2008 Edge SE. The ad also states "SAVE $5000 ON EVERY NEW 2008 EDGE". This is the second week I have seen this in the auto section. I called and talked to their internet manager and he said that the $5000 off included the current $1500.00 Retail Customer Cash Rebate. He said that they were offering that special on all the Edges on their lot. That would bring an Edge Limited on their lot that is similar to the one that I have been looking at with a sticker price of $36,725 down to $31,725.

The same car with X-Plan pricing is $34,488, plus $1500 Customer Cash Rebate brings the price down to $32,988. So it is still $1263 more than the dealer special.

I am just surprised that the dealer special is so much more off than the X-Plan pricing. Am I missing something? I haven't been in to talk to a sales person and am concerned that I am missing something or they are going to try to pull something? It just seems to be too good of a deal. I am also wondering if the dealer that I have been using would match that special. They have a similar deal on a SE in their ad, but nothing about that kind of deal on ALL Edges.

I would appreciate any thoughts or suggestions on this or questions I need to ask and verify. I think this $5000 off trumps just about any other deal I have seen, even stacking multiple rebates. I have seen nothing here in Texas about the Conquest Cash Rebate that others have talked about.

  17. Time to get a new digital camera. :( No pix yet.

These were purchased through the dealer parts department as an accessory, and were not part of our vehicle's package. The word "Edge" is imprinted on the outer edge of the front floor mats perpendicular to your feet (Isn't there a grammar rule about using a word twice in the same sentence?). I believe you can see a copy of the pix in the accessories catalogue online (sorry for no link).

The rear floor mats DO NOT match the original factory mats which leads me to believe that they may have ordered the wrong year mats? I plan to go to the parts department next week to ask and use the mats for comparison.

The actual color is black and perfectly matches the stitching in the leather, the steering wheel, and all other black colors in my camel interior.

The camel color picks up dirt so much that the left foot rest area on the driver's side is already dirty. I wonder if spraying with scotchguard would help?

Hey just post them as soon as you can. I really want to see how this looks. I bet it works since there the interior is already black and camel. Too bad about the floor mats though. I didn't think there was any changes like that between the 07's and the 08's? How much of a difference is there? Do the factory mats also have the name EDGE embroidered on them?

    Clayton

  18. yeah, I actually have a reason to celebrate Pres day now

    Lex,

Glad you got your Edge and are happy. Can you shed some light on the Conquest Rebate? Is that nationwide? I have not seen anything about it here in Texas.

Any chance of getting a summary of your vehicle (including options) and a final price after all your rebates? Always good to know what others are paying when you are getting close to buying.

Also, when do we get to see some pictures of your new baby? I know you when White Sand with Charcoal and I am debating between that and White Sand and Camel. Would enjoy seeing some pictures.

    Clayton

  19. Great idea with the comparison thing. I'll do that tomorrow. And I'll get some pix to show the floor mats. I have to say that everyone that sees the black mats with the embroidery, including our Ford dealer, really likes the idea.

We owned a Volvo XC70, and the rear cargo mat, very thick, had a tight loop carpet look to it and withstood much abuse. Wish I could get something like that material for the Edge cargo area as the black rubber mat doesn't work for storage of white color clothing without rubber marks.

    Thanks for your comments....

    Rusty

    Rusty,

Pardon my ignorance, but what emboridery are you talking about on the floor mats? Everytime I have looked at the Edge, the floor mats have been wrapped in plastic in the rear storage, so I don't think I have actually seen them. Is there a Ford or Edge logo emboridered into them? Or do they have contrasting stitching like the charcoal leather seats do? Also are the mats a deep black or more similar to the charcoal leater? How well do they match the rest of the dark surfaces in your Edge?

    Clayton

  20. Hey,

Finally picked up our new Edge. We love it. :happy feet:

The White Sand Tricoat looks really fine. I am using the Sync with my cell phone. Works pretty good but wants to dial some other name a little more often than I like. Maybe I ain't talkin' to articulate to the Sync.

But what really rained on my parade about this purchase is......

Several weeks ago I requested a brochure from Ford.com on the Edge mainly because someone on here suggested that Ford might kick out a $750 coupon. Nothing came. So on the 13th, we finalized our paperwork at the dealership. Guess what showed up in the mail this morning....you guessed it....a coupon for $750 made out to me if I go in and by a car by 3/31/08. This is about 38 hours after we signed the paperwork. :banghead:

I immediately contacted our salesman and he remarked that this is the 3rd customer of his that got a coupon after the sale. He commented that one lady called Ford and she said they were "very rude to her" and did not honor the coupon. He is going to get with the Ford rep and the dealership owner to see what they can do but it doesn't sound good.

Now why would they not honor this coupon? They sent it out with the intention of giving up the $750. All this does (if they refuse it) is P.O. a customer and create ill will. You know, I have bought furniture and electronic gear in the pass that was put on sale shortly thereafter and the business honored that sale price and I received a refund of the difference. Why wouldn't this be the same?

Geez, just when I was feeling all warm and fuzzy about my new Edge.

Anyone have this same experience or have any words of wisdom?

Thanks! (I still really like the car, so far)

    AKBOB,

In hopes of receiving the same coupon, did you request the personalized PDF brouchure or the personalized printed brochure mailed to you?
