  1. I installed the 55W 6000k and while they had a bit of a blue tinge, that was the effect I was looking for. So far they've been great and no indication from any oncoming drivers that they were too bright.

The key is to make sure that they're aimed correctly after swapping out the bulbs.

  2. Adding photos is an easy process. The only problem is, MFT always reverts to the Ford or Lincoln logo. I have to manually choose one of my photos each time I restart the Edge. Needless to say, I tried out the system but I don't use it any more because I am too lazy to manually choose a photo each time I start the vehicle.

Make sure you select it as wallpaper, then it will be there from that point on.

  3. For those of us who are eager to get their fingers on the MyTouch update, Ford has released a free simulator app for iOS devices; iPad, iPhone and iPod touch. It's an interactive app called MFT Guide that allows you to navigate through the new screens.

They refer to the new system as MyFord Touch SYNC G2, version 3.0.2.

Best of all - we can finally put a face to voice behind the MFT girl, albeit an animated face.

It looks good and hopefully it will be similar in responsiveness.

Maybe I'll just duct tape my iPad to the dash until the update comes out.

  4. ONCE THE UPGRADE IS INSTALLED AND REPORTED SUCCESSFUL MYTOUCH CUSTOMERS WILL RECIEVE A 1 YEAR COMPONENT WARRANTY EXTENSION FROM THE ORIGINAL NEW VEHICLE LIMITED WARRANTY START DATE

just found this a moment ago

Is this in addition to any extended warranties that might have been purchased?

  5. I have had my my Edge for about two months now and in that time the MFT has been completely dead longer than it has worked. I became frustrated with pulling the fuse and I decided to put it on a switch.

I used a add-a-circuit like akirby pictured earlier, but I didn't have to go through all the trouble akirby suggested. I left out what would be the fuse feeding the original ciruit in the add-a-circuit and only inserted the fuse into the new circuit. I extended the tail and connected it to a micro switch I got at Radio Shack. I then ran a wire from the switch back to the add-a-circuit where I connected the wire to the orginal circuit fuse slot on the add-a-circuit using a spade. Be sure to verify that you aren't using the the source side of the circuit when you insert the spade. This process essentially diverted cirtcuit to the switch and return it back.

I choose to do it this way so that it is easily removable and I won't have to listen to the dealer tell me that my mod broke the system. I can now flip the switch and let it sit without having to dig around in the foot well. I will see if I can get a picture tonight or tomorrow that I can share.

After pulling fuse 29 a couple of times after I first got the car, that's essentially the same thing I did as well except that I ran the wires over to the glove-box and mounted the switch there. It makes it soooo much easier than pulling the fuse - especially when you're driving down the road. No need to pull over and turn off the car, restart it, fumble with a fuse.

I mean really, who would design and build any kind of a computer system without a reset switch? Worst case, put it in a location where you have to push in a paper clip or something.

  6. I installed and removed the Mini Sport Antenna, as shown above, this weekend. Included with the antenna are two male thread adaptors. The pre-installed adaptor has a thread pattern which is too wide, so the secondary adaptor, which seems to match the Edge's female hole, is used instead. I noticed the thread was longer than, and thus stuck out past, the end of the Mini antenna's cover. The Edge antenna's threads are equidistant to the end of its antenna cover. I took a chance and installed the antenna anyway since I wasn't sure if there was additional threading length in the base unit. Upon installation, I noticed the Mini antenna's cover did not fit flush with the antenna base on the roof. Additional turning did not make any difference. I wasn't happy with the fit of the Mini's antenna due to the gap. After removing the Mini's antenna the adaptor remained in the base unit. Removal required the use of a pair of needle nose pliers.

I once again have the Edge antenna installed. Cutting the threads might allow better fitment, but I'm not crazy about using an adaptor.

I didn't notice an issue with the threaded adapter with mine but to be honest, I can't remember if it stuck out past the end of the new antenna or not. It did end up screwing down far enough that I didn't have a gap between the antenna and the base.

If you're concerned about using an adapter, a drop or two of Loctite will make sure that it doesn't come off inadvertently.

  7. Is it possible to watch short 2-3 minute videos that are loaded onto a SD card?

I got the images for my walpaper to work and saved but i see no means to play the videos.

Thought i read where you can but only with vehicle stopped and in park. I tried it in the garage with just "acc" and ignition "on".

    Thanks

The only way that you can play video is to pipe it in through the AV ports and select them as a source. Even then, it will only play while in Park.

  9. i can understand removing the more heated parts of my reply and no hard feelings on my end about that, but i wish you would have left the rest of my reply. It really erks me when people have an attitude and perception as skewed as his. i made no derrogatory comments toward his profession and yet i get slandered because i don't elaborate every single word for the .01% of people on this forum who thrive on their Napolean syndrome because they have "insider information" on design and production of single system on a vehicle that has more than 1,000 functioning systems.

i joined this forum for two reasons, 1.) to learn more 2.) to help others.

now, i've been on many forums in the past and i know that people like him are always present, but i suppose i get a sick thrill from a heated debate with the ones who feel superior because they have they know SOOO much about a single system....lol

sorry for the rant, but i put alot of thought into my previous reply...i apologize for the foul words, but not the basis of my response

Careful dude, the mod doesn't like it when people get too wound up. You'll earn yourself a time-out.

  10. why on earth would you do the upgrade yourself?!?!

you go out and buy these super nice vehicles, spend in excess of 25k, and have a flawed product because microsoft forgot to add a refresh cycler into the programming. EFF THAT MESS! Take it to the dealer! no matter what your milage it will be covered under warranty and no charge to you!

    TAKE IT TO THE DEALER!

Rather than have the post edited and it's content modified, it's been deleted.

  11. Historically, the carousel items have performed poorly within the interface. Even the simple accent lighting control module has sluggish performance and that doesn't even have a large volume of content to display. I also won't miss the ability to customize the home screen either. The blank alternative is useless, since it hides the entire interface, and the list is too complicated and condensed. The only home screen which makes sense, from a usability standpoint, is the default quadrant shortcut display.

Actually, the "blank" screen works quite well once you upload your own wallpaper to it.

  12. I'm a bit surprised and disappointed that the home screen choices will go away. If I'm understanding this correctly, adding my own pictures (which I do now) will be pointless since the stuff on four quadrants will cover it up. Of all the things to change, that one seems odd to me.

    Still looking forward to it.

    Peace,

    DM

Based on what I see on the first image, it looks like the pictures you add should still be visible to some degree, like the Ford logo they show on-screen.

  13. I can work any of the buttons and the screen with gloves on - some pretty heavy ones too. What buttons are you saying don't work with gloves?

The controls below the touch screen (down by the big volume control) are capacitive switches so you need to have direct contact with them to make them work.

I think it goes back to lack of unified design focus by the engineering teams. Why have three different technologies present for your controls - resistive on the touch screen, capacitive on the lower controls, mechanical switches on the volume and audio control.

  14. pulling fuse 29 is not a good fix IMO. disconnect one side of the battery for 5 minutes. Reconnect, let it go through the maintenance screen and then you'll be up and running again.

i know it sucks for you, but take it to the dealer and make them do it...that's what i tell all of my customers to do...

So what's the difference between the two that makes you think one is better than the other?

  15. I have a 2011 Limited and wondered hpw to set/save my screens so the come up the way I want them when I start the car.

The touch screen always comes up to the 4 box screen. I would like it to come up on the radio screen. And, the cluster on the right of the speedo will show my phone when I rather see the compass.

Is there a way to set the screens?

    Thanks,

    -Kirk

The touch screen has one of 3 home screens that you can set it to. Press and hold the home icon at the bottom center of the screen until a 3 panel display slides up. Then you can select a single wallpaper image for the default, the standard 4 panel screen or one with a number of customizable shortcuts.

The cluster displays on either side of the speedo should default to whatever they were at when the car was turned off.
