  1. I would imagine the Edge is decent in an off road capacity but not great. Not much ground clearance and improper tires would be the biggest challenges but AWD coupled with the type of HP we have, I would think it would handle moderate terrain.

These are built for cruisin moreso than muddin...

  2. I went in to my first Ford dealer yesterday and talked to a salesman about the 08's. I told him that I had heard about the Limited and was interested because of some options that I wanted (20" rims, power lift gate, new Silver Vapor color). He was aware of the 08's and some of the features I mentioned, but not the Limited model. We went over to his computer and he pulled up the '08 and only saw SE, SEL & SEL+ in both FWD and AWD models, no Limited. He could see the options I was looking for, 20" wheels, power lift gate, Silver Vapor color on his computer, but no Limited model. I thought this was weird because I know some people on the forum have already ordered their Limited's. I also thought seeing the 20" wheels as an option was strange. I thought that the Limited was the only model that could be ordered with 20" wheels and the red/black leather interior. I don't think I want the black and red leather, but I do want the 20" wheels, that is why I have been concentrating on the Limited. He took me over to the manager and asked if he had heard about a Limited model. He said he hadn't but would call and find out what he could.

Any thoughts on this? I made it clear to the salesman that I am not in any hurry and plan to wait, so I don't think they were trying to get me "into something today" and clear out their 07 inventory. He also said that all the options could be ordered if I wanted, which maybe a way to go because there are some options on the Limited that I don't need.

After a quick search I found this that has some details on the Limited:

  3. :shades: ............Am I looking at a tinted windshield?? Plenty people told me I'm brain dead, so you won"t be the first, but I was of the understanding that it was illegal "everywhere" to tint below that ASI line...If they allow that in Florida...So be it...I just wouldn't drive it in Alabama...cause there will be some deputy, somewhere, :shades: looking to nail it......................Happy...... :shift: ................Sr...

Here in Alberta, they'd just shoot through it first and ask questions later...

Only the windows back from the front driver and passanger sides can be tinted here. To me, this makes great sense. If I were a cop walking up on a vehicle I had just pulled over at night or dusk, and couldn't see how many people were in it or if a gun was pointed in my general direction, I'd be concerned.

Officers need to take every aspect into account when approaching a car and many have been killed with routine traffic stops. I'm just glad I'm not a cop in Florida!

It does look cool though! Ya just need some "bling" on those wheels now!

  4. Congrats on your new Edge. What's with all the crew cabs. Looks like truck heaven to me...

I know it's illegal here to increase the tint on the drivers and passenger side front windows from factory and the fine is hefty! May be the same thing there...

  5. *DISCLAIMER: STREET RACING IS BAD. NEVER STREET RACE.

WTF? Beat by a Pursuit? A GT (top model) only has 171 HP.

There is no way you should have "lost" to this...well, and don't take this wrong but...

A lot of times it isn't the ... car ...

Well I would NEVER condone street racing EVER, in fact, that may be the first time I ever have… :shades:

I've often said :"it's not always the car", but in an automatic it's pretty much a no brainer. I can see blowing a shift in a 5 speed and going home with your tail between your legs but it's not like he got a huge jump on me at the lights... Now granted the Edge is carrying way more weight but I was shocked!

He started out about half a car length ahead and maintained that up to about half a block. There was construction ahead so that's as far as we went and we both backed down.

I'm going with the theory that it's brand new (143KM) and maybe there's a "break in" period before it maximizes its HP.

  6. I remember when there was this silver handle thing with a knob at the end attached to the inside of the door.

It turned in a circle but was really uncomfortable to use as you sat in the driver's seat.

    LOL... no kidding!

We get so spoiled now that it's just the way we think. Our kids have never seen a rotary phone and can't believe we didn't have cell phones "back in the day"!

With regards to turn signals on the side mirrors, after driving my wifes Bug many times at night, I personally don't find it an issue. It's certainly not blinding to a point where you can't see out of the mirror while it's flashing! Being that we can't pull anything of any real size with the Edge, I don't forsee that being a barrier in any way but more personal preference.

Side note; I got beat by a Pontiac Pursuit this morning. WHAT'S THAT ABOUT??? Not a happy guy...

  7. so im going to be buying my edge in about 3-4 days and i was wondering if any of you have any tips of what i should watch out for. or if any of you have been screwed over by the dealer and think i should be watchful of something. im a 22 yr old female and i know in some way or another im going to be taken advantage of. but ive done my research and im prepared. just wondering if theres something specific!! please help....i dont want to be bent over more than i have to..if at all!!! thanks

    Hey Nicky and congrats.

My first advice would be to take along a male partner if possible. If not, make sure they know that you have eyes for another vehicle and are making your choice this week. Tell them you have a deposit on another car but...

Leave out a "trade-in" if possible because they love to play with that middle number.

Tell them that you are making your decision on this number they are providing for you today so if it's not their best number, it would be a mistake. Put down a refundable deposit if need be.

I got them down a bit in price and then negotiated my LCD 2 way remote car starter that was installed at the dealership prior to me picking it up. I felt good about the sale and that's what is important.

If you are concerned on price, maybe there's someone in the pleasanton California area on the forum that could give some insight into your deal? I'm a wee bit further north... :P

Good luck my dear and welcome.

  8. The 300c is an addition to the family. I've been a Ford guy since I've been driving.

Congrats on the new Edge. Picked up mine yesterday!! WOOHOO!

I'm also a BIG fan of the 300C as that's the only car I ever rented when I traveled. I would have bought one but here in Western Canada, it was just too many ponies and RWD which isn't a great combination come Oct.

    Enjoy the new wheels!

  9. So I picked up my Black SEL+ AWD yesterday at noon. Since then, I've put about 75 miles on it and thus far, I LOVE IT!

    Some observations;

It doesn't really seem like 260+ HP and I'm a little dissapointed in the "get up". Mostly from a stand-still... It does have some nice passing gears and once the RPM's are up, she has good torque. I've been driving a Taurus with the Duratec 24V engine for the past few years and it seems comparable in power to that.

Wish it had auto up windows but instead, just a drivers side auto down.

I didn't notice ANY glare even though I read much about that over the past couple of weeks.

Very comfortable and extremely quiet. Nice ride for a shorter wheelbase vehicle and not choppy at all.

It has an AMAZING turning radius.

    Premium sound system is sweet!

If a rear window is lowered more than half way with the front windows up and Vista roof closed, there's a real disturbing sound that is REALLY irriatating! Somebody try it and let me know if you find the same...

The kids LOVE the reclining rear seats and their own sunroof.

I didn't realize it had lights under the side mirrors and it looks pretty cool at night when parked and lit up.

Being a "premium vehicle" IMO, I would have liked to have seen signal lights on the side mirrors as a safety feature. Even my wifes '03 Beetle convertible has 'em...

Oh... and it gets LOTS of looks! Good on the ego ya know... :hysterical:

All in all, it has lived up to my expectations early on and I got up at 7am (on a Sunday morning) just to take it out for a drive... :shift: :hyper: ... I know... I'm a bit strange...

  10. A little anal maybe but is there a way to run just the park lights and fogs lights without the driving/headlights coming on? I just really like the look of that.

When adjusting the switch to the park lights and pulling the switch out, it will work while in park but as soon as it's in gear, the driving lights come on. Is there a way around that??

    Cheers,

    Steve

  11. In my 2 months of serching, the last 2 choices were the Equinox Sport and the Edge SEL+. Both were AWD and had 260+ HP. I waited 2 weeks for the new sport Equinox model to come in prior to making my decision just to see the difference. The Edge obviously has a more stream lined look but Chev stepped up the Equinox with this Sport version.

Pricing is slightly less on the Chev and it was impressive. Obviously not impressive enough as it was less than an hour after test driving it that I bought my Edge.

Less than 5 hours till I get it.... :hyper:

  12. So I pick up my Edge today but I have a couple questions for techies here...

Is there a reason why Ford didn't add the ability to add a cargo cover for the back? That seems like major oversight even though the windows do have a dark tint. Opinions?

Are there "performance parts" that anyone has added to their 07 Edge? Anything to bump it up a bit in HP? I read where someone added a custom exhaust but I'm looking for additional feedback on this and other mods as well. Also, any dress up mods available that anyone has done other than the obvious tires & rims?

    Much appreciated!

    Steve

  13. Thanks everyone!

Sweet looking Edge my friend! That was my first color choice a month ago but for some, bizzare reason, I went with black. I swore I'd NEVER own a black car but I saw a couple of them and it just looked so damn..... WOW!

Drive it like ya own it!

  14. So I pick up my Edge tomorrow but I have a couple questions for techies here...

I don't know if this is the right forum to address this but I couldn't find a more appropriate area...

  15. Greetings from Kansas City!

    I picked up a black/charcoal 2007 Edge AWD SEL + last night.

The buying experience was good, I got the terms I wanted, I got the value on my trade that I wanted, and got the car I wanted. I gotta say I couldn't be happier!

Way to go Edgey! I'll have the EXACT same unit in about 15 hours! :happy feet:

Here's to many years of fun and safe driving!

  16. Hello Blu----Don't you just love it?...Got one of those banana colored rascals and I'm afraid somebody would have to pry it from my cold dead hands..Just rolled 25K on mine and will try and run the wheels off it before the end of the year.........Enjoy...... :shift: ......Sr.

    Cheers Sr.!

I just left the dealership to drop off a void chq and the remote starter has been installed (4.5hrs it took!) and the vehicle was going in for its detailing. I'm picking it up at 1pm tomorrow!

Next weekend we're taking it to Banff (Rocky Mountains) for the weekend just to "break it in" and try and find some snow. :shift:

I'm sure I'll provide a detailed opinion (and pics) of my new baby upon my return!!

    Thanks again,

    Steve

  17. Thanks all! It took me 2 hours to fall asleep last night and that's soooo unlike me! I'm a 40 yr old kid right now waiting for Saturday!

It came down to 2 crossovers. I waited 2 weeks for the new 2008 Equinox Sport AWD to come in and I test drove it yesterday. Goes like hell (maybe even quicker than the Edge) but it just wasn't finished as nice and was missing some of features I really liked in the Edge. Back up sensor, Vista roof and just the overall stlying of the Edge is far superior and classy.

Can't wait for snow! (Never thought I say that!!) and here in Alberta, we get our share of it!

    Thanks again everyone...

    Steve
