  1. THe OEM bi-halogen are actually very nice projectors. The Phillips HIR2 bulb in then is actually by far the best halogen bulb to date. It has a lumen output that is similar to a slightly dimmed HID bulb (1-2 years old). There is the Catz Zeta system which boosts the HIR2 bulbs and they are really bright but i would worry about heating the bowls too much and the chrome flaking off. The stock projectors are very open so it might be ok.

Also when I mod cars I like to keep an OEM look an always try to improve upon the stock version. Tinting the lights to me doesn't look good as it hides the awesome lights. It also kills the performance as you noticed. I really like to open the light up and black out the inside before considering touching the lens. These headlights are extremely hard to open even if you have opened many lights before. The permaseal is no joke and does not release with heat so we need to cut or physically break the seal with force. When I seal them back up I will need to use some silicone and some grey kioto butyl to seal them back up http://shop.lightwerkz.net/product_info.php?cPath=13&products_id=65. our headlights are fully sealed with gortex patches to let air pass but not moisture.

  2. Ordered a 2012 Edge LTD on September 12.

    Mineral Gray

    Light Stone Interior

    Vision Package

    Drivers Entry Package

    Voice Navigation

Got my VIN on October 1.

    Car built on October 3.

    Currently in transit. :dogwalk:

Hope to have in less than 2 weeks.

I ordered mine 2 weeks before you and I still have nothing!! no VIN nothing. I'm so impatient too. Congrats.

  3. You ordered yours two weeks after I did so hopefully yours will make it. Mine is on it's way here.

It is unfortunate that this happens when so many people are fighting for jobs. Times have changed and they need to get over it.

I am hoping to get some info this week or next. Sales guy had no VIN info yesterday. Fortunately only Ford can strike apparently because of the government money given to the other american automakers.

  4. What's this now? I had not heard about this. Details???

Ford and the UAW are starting contract negotiations right now. They sent out strike info to employees incase they don't go well. So basically we can expect a strike soon. If they do I might have to cancel my order if it delays it more as I will not put up with this shit. Guess I deserve it for trying to buy American this time.

  5. sorry i apologize for the name calling, but i decided to man up, and remove the tint, black out the housing and retrofit the projectors. will post pics once i find some more info. can you tell me exactly what i need because i feel dumb as im looking through the retorfit source and so on. I know i want the 50W ballast, and the 6000k bulb. the Mazda 3 lens looked the best when it came to the color in the cutoff line, but do i need to buy a new projector as well. im a total newb when it comes to this stuff. I would greatly appreciate any info you could provide. sorry once again.

You need to get a whole new projector setup while doing a retrofit. Since you are looking at TRS I would recommend the FX-R projectors with the clear lens upgrade. Also get their morimoto 55w ballasts. I would not get a 6000K bulb though as it will not be that bright and the blue light doesn't travel as far. If you want a clean white light and the most lumens go with the OSRAM 66240 CBI 5000K bulb. Aftermarket bulbs tend to color shift too much and they often don't match the same color from bulb to bulb. Always use OEM bulbs wherever possible.

  6. I use only Optimum no rinse and you can also use it as a quick detail. I only use it for bugs and bird droppings to get it off the paint quickly.

A quick detailer should not have any wax in it. If it does then it's a spray wax. Quick detailer is just used to remove contaminants that are sitting on top of your wax/sealant layer. It will not affect the re-application of your waxes.

  7. Just over 4 weeks and still nothing. No VIN and no DORA. If I don't see anything next week I'm not going to be happy. Some people who ordered around my time got their VIN before 5 weeks. I want to get it built before FORD employees decide they want more money and strike. Good news is that it looks like the newer employees are voting positive.

  8. The larger ecoboost engines are putting down some extremely impressive numbers on basic tunes before boosting any PSI. Some of the cars are getting around 100+hp to the wheels with tune and downpipes/cats and boosting psi. I was stating 50-60 to the crank and still believe it will be possible with a premium octane tune and messing with timing. Boost some PSI and they can easily get to 300hp at the crank.

  9. No way. 10-15, tops.

OEMs tend to tune turbo engines for reliability so there is plenty of room. Look at what is done on the audi 1.8T and BMW 135/335/535 with juicebox/proceed devices. Custom tunes for various octane levels and minro bolt ons and they are increasing power way beyond stock numbers. 50-60hp at the crank is not much for a turbo car in stock form.

  10. The direct injection allows it to use the regular 87. Ford does also say that you will gain performance with 91 or better octane. Which makes sense, especially in a heavily boosted small displacement engine.

I bet there is 50-60 hp easily available with a custom tune for higher octane. The ecoboost has great potential for cheap power. Just wish it was available as the 3.5l in the edge sport trim. I wanted the ecoboost but the look of the sport was worth it for me.

  11. Lighting is the same for the parts you mention. You can swap for factory HID but it will cost about $1200-1500. You can however use a 9012 bulb in the stock bi-halogen projectors but the OEM HIR2 bulb is really good for halogen bulbs. Stick with 4300-5000K for the best performance. 55W if you want brighter lights but really only needed if you live in a city as dark rural roads your eyes will see less into the distance with 55w.

Also the 2012 manuals are posted online. Has all the info you need http://www.motorcraftservice.com/vdirs/SPubs/default.asp?pageid=oghome&gutsid=spubs_serv_all_new&TYPE=OWNERGUIDE&menuIndex1=17

  12. I would highly advise against doing this! You may think your lights are brighter but fog lights with highbeams is worse. You lose a lot of your ability to see down the road. Your eyes adjust for the brighter light in the foreground. There is a reason why many engineers have spent countless hours designing projectors with foreground limiting shields. You want the light to be bright down the road and not in front of you.

  13. When my metallic black 2011 MKX came in from me ordering it, the paint did not need a thing. They did not touch it so that made my job easier. I went with CQuartz as I knew I'd be getting stone chips so it is easier to do spot corrections that way. If you had not said Opti Coat, I would have suggested Duragloss 501 (yes, it is a Marine Cleaner) as it is AMAZING on what it does to white paint. But, it has a strong sealant component to it, so that is verbotten under the OC. The one product I do HIGHLY recommend which you WILL see results on, is IronX from Carpro. (Available at Autogeek in the US and EShine in Canada) You should be good to just go ahead and seal it after that. Check out the procedure I followed when I got my MKX:

I already made them write down not to install a front plate and not wash it. The front plate isn't on my order but I don't want some guy in the shop install an spare one laying around. All the cars on the lot have a front plate with the dealers advertising. No front plates in FL. I am hoping I don't need to do any paint compounding and just remove any oxidation and seal it. I might just do a quick polish since I am putting opti coat.

  14. Yes, but all for the dirt cheap price of more then $2000. The MS-8 is $800 alone. Not gonna happen for me. The MS-8 getting great reviews, but I'm not that unhappy with the sound.

This is why I hate integrated systems. You can get great quality decks for cheap that output much better sound then most of the crap "high end" factory stereos. I just don't get it. If it wasn't integrated, I'd just put in my own.

You can get nib MS-8s on some forums for ~$450. JBL transfers warranty to all owners assuming it was originally purchased from an authorised source. The MS-8 alone would really increase the stock system. Add in some time with some CLD tiles and some closed cell foam and there can be some great results.

  15. Just got back from vacation and opened one light. Permaseal needs to be banned! Anyways the rx350bx are going to fit fine. I just need to get some longer screws and I have an easy method to secure them to the oem bracket. These headlights are designed nicely for a retrofit. PLENTY of room and very east to retain stock adjustment.

The projectors will be mounted in front of the bracket now since they sit about 1/2" further back than the stock ones. Don't want to lose any width since that is the main reason I went with these projectors.
