  1. Hello Everyone, I thought I would post my experience with this transmission issue. Hopefully, someone may have had a similar experience and can offer some advice.... Ever since I purchased our 2008 Edge Lmtd with AWD, I have not been real happy with the shifting ability of the transmission. I have experiences the klunking, thumping and slipping issues others have. As well as the roll back but I adjusted my driving habits. In July 09, my wife was driving the Edge and experienced the vehicle suddenly not wanting to move forward even as she pressed on the gas pedal. She stopped, placed the transmission in Park, turned off the vehicle and then restarted and was able to drive off normally. A short distance later, again no moving forward but then wrench light came on, and other lights were flashing on the dash (her description). I drove to her location to assist and vehicle would not move forward. Vehicle was towed to dealer. There diagnosis was they found "Code P0720. P0722 watched PIDS and found OSS PID dropping to 0 intermittantly. Pulled front pan and replaced sensor." After I got the vehicle back, it was more or less fine other than just a feeling the transmission was loose still. In Sept 09, I took the vehicle in again and complained of the shifting. They verified the complaint and performed TSB #8-26-13. When I got it back again, it drove OK but not a tight shifting of a transmission as I think it should be. So I chalked it up to just my opinion. Well, lately the klunk as I lightly accelerate is back. Very obvious to me the transmission is slipping momentarily and then catching, thus the klunk or thump. I was planning on taking it in again if it persisted. So tonight, I back out of a parking spot, place transmission in drive and accelerate but car barely moves forward. Dropped shifter to Low but same effect. So I shut it off, restart and vehicle drives normally home. Now I am waiting to take to dealer on Monday. Sure would like to get to the bottom of this. Anybody out there have any information that may be of help? Thanks in advance.

    AC Smell?

Thanks to all of you who have responded thus far. Grey, for your info I park in a garage and am in Southern Arizona. I will have them check that the drain is clear. Thanks for the tip. Bob
  3. Lately I have been noticing a smell coming from the A/C. Smells like old socks or a wet dog. Made an appointment with my dealer's service department and they, according to the invoice, "performed A/C System Deodorizer" using "Kit #YN-18". When I got the car back, A/C had a perfumy talcum powder smell for a couple of days. Then the bad smell came back again. And before you ask.....there are no socks or wet canines stuck under the hood!!!! By the way, no charge for this service. Said it was still under warranty. Service rep explained the smell is from moisture trapped in the A/C coils and creating bacteria, mold, fungi-type stuff. Said the only thing I could do to keep the smell down is to switch off A/C and turn on vent air to dry out coils a few minutes before I get to my destination. I have been doing that religiously but the smell returns anyway. What little research I did on the internet reveled that this is becoming a more common problem with new cars because the manufacturers (not just Ford) are designing and installing smaller, more efficient evaporators with tighter and smaller fins on the core. This is trapping condensation and not allowing it to evaporate, thus the creation of mold and the smell. Has anyone else noticed this? If so, any ideas on a solution. Is the offending parts accessable to spray them with Lysol or something? Thought I would query the board before I go back to the dealer. Thanks in advance. Bob
  4. I have an IPOD Nano and it works just like SOLAS989's does. Once I'm playing a song, artist, or genre...I can tell it to play whatever I want after pressing the voice button once. Not sure why yours doesn't. Are you using the USB cable? Bob
  5. Clayton, I requested the printed brochure. AkBob
  6. Update....Update....... We just got a call from our salesman. He advised they contacted Ford and Ford is going to honor the $750 coupon! He advised that Ford will be issuing a check to me for the $750 and to expect it within 4-6 weeks. Sorry, Lex! Now, I was quick enough to criticize so I will be just as quick to offer kudos to the sales staff, dealership, and Ford for coming through with this. You know, even if this coupon did not come through, I would still have been very satisfied with my buying experience. I have purchased several new vehicles over the years and I have to say this experience at Jim Click Ford in Green Valley, AZ was the most pleasurable experience of them all. I worked with two sales people, Terry and Mike. Both were professional, curteous, and always kept me up-to-date as to the status of my Edge. I highly recommend these guys and the dealership. I haven't used the Service Dept but have high hopes they will be as good as the sales staff. As a side note....I spent the day yesterday taking the front end off the Edge. Say What!!!!! Now that was a little hair-raising. The reason we chose the Edge was to be able to tow it 4-down behind a motorhome. I mounted a Roadmaster tow bar mount (designed specifically for the Edge) to the frame and then re-installed the front end. One of the great features of the Edge (both AWD and FWD) is it can be towed without any modifications to the transmission or the driveline. It's an eye opener to see that the grill and front facsia is only held on by about 19 screws and clips. Many of them are plastic fastners. But all went well and the only thing you see is two small black 2"X2" receivers protruding about 2" from small cut-outs in the plastic black lower grill section. Very unobtrusive. The actual tow bar slides in the these receivers when you tow. We compared and test drove the Edge, Honda CRV, and Saturn Vue. (all towable) The Edge was the most expensive but was the better car all around. IMHO In closing, request a brochure from Ford on-line, check the box that says you are considering buying in the next 30 days and wait patiently for the coupon. Hopefully you will get one. By the way we received the brochure the same day as the coupon but separately.
  7. Lex, I'm gonna hang on to it until I have exhausted all appeals. After that........
  8. Lex, Unfortunately, it is in my name and specifically says "nontransferable out of household." So unless you want me to adopt you.........
  9. Hey, Finally picked up our new Edge. We love it. :happy feet: The White Sand Tricoat looks really fine. I am using the Sync with my cell phone. Works pretty good but wants to dial some other name a little more often than I like. Maybe I ain't talkin' to articulate to the Sync. But what really rained on my parade about this purchase is...... Several weeks ago I requested a brochure from Ford.com on the Edge mainly because someone on here suggested that Ford might kick out a $750 coupon. Nothing came. So on the 13th, we finalized our paperwork at the dealership. Guess what showed up in the mail this morning....you guessed it....a coupon for $750 made out to me if I go in and by a car by 3/31/08. This is about 38 hours after we signed the paperwork. I immediately contacted our salesman and he remarked that this is the 3rd customer of his that got a coupon after the sale. He commented that one lady called Ford and she said they were "very rude to her" and did not honor the coupon. He is going to get with the Ford rep and the dealership owner to see what they can do but it doesn't sound good. Now why would they not honor this coupon? They sent it out with the intention of giving up the $750. All this does (if they refuse it) is P.O. a customer and create ill will. You know, I have bought furniture and electronic gear in the pass that was put on sale shortly thereafter and the business honored that sale price and I received a refund of the difference. Why wouldn't this be the same? Geez, just when I was feeling all warm and fuzzy about my new Edge. Anyone have this same experience or have any words of wisdom? Thanks! (I still really like the car, so far)
  10. bspraque, How did the install go on the Brakemaster? If you don't mind my asking...what did they charge you for the install? Did you have to install a seat adaptor. Thanks in advance. I am getting my ducks in a row in order to outfit my Edge for towing when it arrives next week. Bob
  11. bbf2530, Thanks for the quick response. Yes, the $150 was over the invoice price. I think the $15 difference between the two of us might be the gas charge. Unfortunately, the Doc fee is listed as $287. I did agree to it so I don't feel comfortable going back and asking for a re-consideration. Although an arguement could be made they want "wiggle room" for the final price at delivery so why can't I address a charge I am now learning may be excessive. I will have to think about that. Again, thanks for the info.
  12. Thanks, Carguy. I was a little surprised that I offended someone but then I checked many of his other comments in the past and see he is nothing but an internet tough guy. You know the type. Someone must have pee'd in his Cheerios this morning. Anyway, as a NOOBIE I came across this forum and can tell there is a lot of useful information here to waaaaay offset the negative feedback. I'll "pay it forward" with my buying experiences as well as feedback on the vehicle after I get a chance to put a few miles on it.
  13. Sorry, this is in a thread in the Classified area as well. Wasn't sure where to put it....... OK, pulled the trigger and ordered the following: 2008 AWD Limited (30,134) Panoramic Roof (1186) White Sand Tri-Coat Paint (421) Trailer Tow Package (336) Rubber Mats (47) Cargo Management System (55) Sirius Satellite Radio (166) 5 Gals gas (yeah, they charge you!) (15.50) FDAF Assessment Fee (458) Dest and Del (705) + $150 over invoice GRAND TOTAL $33,673.50 not including tax and license, doc fee MINUS any applicable rebates or incentives at the time of delivery The gas and FDAF fee kinda makes the warm and fuzzy part of this transaction disappear. The salesman (as well as the sales manager) did say two things that I would like some feedback on from those of you in the know: 1. We cannot guarantee the final price of your order until the car is delivered because Ford may raise the price of an option or something and we will have to pass that on to you??????? Of course, I am immediately suspicious of this since I signed a contract for the above pricing. I figure if they pull that at time of delivery, then the gloves will come off then. Have any of you heard of a dealer doing this? 2. I wanted them to apply the current rebates/incentives but they again said I would get whatever was being offered by Ford at the time of delivery. Why is it I can buy an unbuilt house for several hundred's of thousands of dollars, settle on the price with the builder, take possession 6 months later and not have to worry about the price of lumber going up? Geez, this stuff is exactly why I hate buying a car. What an amazing alien world the whole purchasing of a motor vehicle has become. And they wonder why car dealers have a bad rep with the general public! Overall, we are looking forward to our new Edge in 6-10 weeks. Hopefully, nothing will come up to queer the deal. Thanks again, in advance, for shedding any helpful light on this.
