  1. Well I put in my JBL GTO8608C component speakers and thought I would share some notes. Installation: I read about wiring right thru the Molex connectors on a Ford Flex forum, so I figured I would give it a try, for the Flex it said I should also be able to go thru the driver’s side, I don’t see how you could do it on the Edge. Door speakers bolt right in, I used a small screwdriver to pry the old tweeters out and then two sided 3M automotive tape around the edges to secure the new tweeters as they were a little loose in the holders. Passenger side – I did this door first. I was able to go thru the Molex connector on this side of the vehicle. While I had the panel off I put as much sound deadening material on the door as I could. I used a piece of a coat hanger to go the rubber boot and then carefully drilled out the molex connector. I used 16ga cable because this is what I’ve used in the past, but it would have been much easier if I had used 18Ga, because I had to increase the hole I made in the molex connector to get the cable to slide inside the Molex so I could lock it back in. Drivers side – Since I couldn’t see how to get thru the Molex, I had to cut the speaker wire in the foot space going back to the amp for the door speaker and make my connections there to wire in the crossover for these speakers. In hindsight I wished I would have done this on the passenger side also, because it made it much easier, and it would’ve eliminated a chance of messing up the Molex, though I didn’t have to cut any factory wiring. Triple check that you are cutting the correct wires if you choose to cut them. Sound results: I would have to say that I honestly believe it sounds somewhat better that the Sony Premium speakers I took out. The Sony magnets look to be about the same size and the speakers look to have similar construction on the door speakers. I think the bigger difference is the tweeters, much brighter than stock, and I can also adjust the crossover to change the sound somewhat. A little later on I may add some coax or three-way speakers to the back doors. You can look thru some install pictures here, though I really didn't take any of the speakers themselves since they all look pretty much the same. http://s228.photobucket.com/user/ericm007/library/Vehicles/Ford%20Edge%20Limited%202011 Take care, Eric
  2. HI all, I bought some component speakers to go in the front of my 2011 Ford Edge and I need to wire in the crossover which requires getting a wire from the speaker in the door to the crossover, which is in the cabin. The connector in the door is solid and I don't think I can go that route. What is the best way to get the speaker wire from the door to the crossover in the kickspace of the cabin? TIA!! Eric Disregard - I have installed the speakers. Thanks anyway.
  3. Hey akirby, I decided to go with the JBL GTO8608C components speakers after reading some reviews and they seemed to be good bang for the buck. I'll update later with my thoughts on the improvement in sound once installed. Take care, Eric
  4. Hi akirby, So you feel that replacing just the front speakers will give me better sound than the Sony premium speakers. I guess that does make some sense since I almost never ride in the back, sounds like a good place to start. Any middle of the road speakers suggestions, I'm thinking about going with these. Kicker 11ds682 6x8 Component Speaker or JBL GTO8608C 6-Inch x 8-Inch Thanks for the reply. Take care.
  5. Update: You can see some installation notes in Post #6. Hi, I've searched and found some info, but haven't found a definitive answer to some questions about upgrading the Sony stereo in the 2011 Edge Limited, so if someone has some insight I would appreciate your input. I think the sound is pretty good as it is, but in the past with other vehicles I've always changed out the system with much better sound the result, though they have never been a "premium" system as the Sony claims to be. So here are my questions. How much better should I expect the sound to be if I put some speakers like Kickers or Infinities in the place of the factory speakers? Is it worth the price of doing so? Should I replace all the speakers, including the front center and D-pillar speakers and maybe the sub? Should I use components for the front speakers and pillar tweeters? Is the factory amp sufficient to drive all the new speakers or would I need a new amp? How many outputs would I need on a new amp? If anyone has done this, do you have a list of equipment that you installed I could use as a design example? I know this covers a lot but any input is truly appreciated. TIA!! Eric
  6. Yep same here. I'd also like to be able to rearrange the audio source menu to bring the SD to the top.
  7. Right you are akirby. I wanted to update the issue with my 2011 Edge losing power and then not being able to rev above 1000 rpms. Took it to the local dealer and they kept it for a day and it did not repeat the problem, and it didn’t show any codes. They said they couldn’t order any parts under warranty work without a code. They told me to drive it some more and if it stalls again, bring it back. Well, I drove home (2 miles) changed clothes to go out and drove over to my GFs house, on the way after another 2 miles, it stalled again. Wrench came on and it wouldn’t rev over 1000 rpms. Shut it off, started it again and off I went. I had my video camera in the car and recorded the lack of power and the wrench. Took it in the next day and another CS manager was listening to my conversation and said they based on my description of the issue he was sure it was the throttle body, which I told them the day before, but I guess they had to be sure. I told them I had recorded a video of the issue in case they needed to see the wrench icon on the display, they said that wouldn’t be necessary. Anyway they ordered and installed the throttle body, even though I still didn’t have a code, and so far so good. My idle was fluctuating a little before, but everything is smooth now. We’ll see how long it will last. From the service order Complaint – Customer states engine stalls Cause – throttle body out of range Correction – verify and replace t/body AT4Z 9E926 A Throttle Body
  8. Thanks for all the replies. I'm glad to have a site with such friendly and knowledgeable people to be a part of, hopefully I can make some worthwhile contributions in the future. Eric
  9. Hi, Did you get this resolved, if so, what was the problem? My 2011 Limited doesn't stall, but the wrench comes on and the RPMs won't go over 1000, this only seems to happen within a few mintues of starting the car. I pull over and shut the car off, wait a few seconds and the car goes again. This has happened three times in the last two weeks, but never before that. Though since the first time my idle does seem rough and will flucuate between 700-400 rpm. I'm taking it in to get the codes read next week. I'll post back with what is found.
  10. Thanks for the reply Cellbine. I will be doing the console mod shortly, got to do something to organize that pocket after that I'll move on to the LED lights. Take care.
  11. Hello, I’m Eric, 49, from the Midlands of SC. I wanted to introduce myself and say thanks for all the great info I acquired from the site in the weeks prior to making my purchase. This site was instrumental in solidifying my choice of a 2011 Ford Edge. After looking for months for a Candy Red 2011 Edge Limited with Light Stone leather interior, the 20” wheels and Vista roof I finally found one in Florida. I purchased my Edge on May 25th and so far it has been great. I got a CPO Edge in Maitland, Florida, outside Orlando, and my girlfriend and I spent two days driving up A1A back to SC, a great trip. I had to go 400 miles to get exactly what I wanted, but I'm glad I waited for this one, and it was definitely worth the trip. I have already added the screen protector based on reviews here, and I’m sure I’ve only grazed the surface of the wealth of knowledge to be found here. Thanks again for a great site, Eric.
