  1. It is worth noting that there are two Michelin Latitude Tours on tirerack. The more expensive is the Latitude Tour HP, which is said to be OE for 2010 Edge. The difference is in the treadwear rating which is 420 against 680. In earlly roadtests of the Edge it was criticised for poor braking performance, and the blame was put on the tires, Continentals with a treadwear rating of.....you guessed it........680! I have these on my 07 and they are crap. If I lived in Seattle i would have changed them as the wet grip is very poor. In Naples I can live with them due much dry weather. So if it was me, and I wanted the best and safest tire, I'd choose the softer compound HP. At least be aware there's a choice. just my 2 cents

  4. Off topic, but Neil (sladeyboy) didn't get back yet. Good info, Tanjima about the back lights from Brazil. Do you know if the drivers door mirror is flat or convex on the Brazil spec cars? And if it's convex, do you know the part number? Cheers, Andy
  5. Welcome Neil, a lot of good stuff on this forum - I read more than I write! I live part time in US ( but more of the year in UK) and have had my Edge here for more than 2 yrs - bought it new. Are you personally importing your Edge or is it now possible to buy one in UK? I have thought about taking mine to UK but made no plan yet. Cheers, Andy

  7. Probably because some AWD Edges have had transmission fluid leakage from the PTU (drive to the rear wheels) FWD models seem unaffected and are better than averagely reliable in class.

  9. Never thought the brakes were mushy or had free play. I drive several other cars and when I switch to the Edge, sometimes weeks since the last time I drove it, it feels .......................normal. Maybe you need to dig a little deeper - are the rotors still warped and pushing the pads back into the calipers? Remember, dealers will say anything to avoid helping a customer!!!
  10. Mark, I prefer to select footwells and dash vents together, as I like to keep my feet cool! Also, it reduces the blast from the dash vents. Just my personal prefs.

Bumping this topic because it is unseasonably hot and humid for November, even for SW FL. :shades: My 2007 Edge was probably built around April 07 tho I didn't buy it till November 07, so it had probably been standing in the florida sunshine for a whole summer. From the start, I thought the a/c was weak, so that high fan speeds seemed necessary as the incoming air was not that cold. I checked my cabin air filter as described on this forum - it was pretty clean. By March 2009 I was sure the a/c was barely cooling the air at all, but I was due to go back to UK for the summer. Move forward to November 2009. All the fiddling suggested here - trying recirc for 5 minutes - cracking open rear windows - nothing would really cool the car, the incoming air was warm even after 10 minutes. I took the car to the local stealer - their service department was clearly uninterested and did not inspire me with confidence. So I brought the car to a respected local auto a/c specialist. It took 15 minutes to diagnose a slow leak from a hose, 2 hours and a total of $300 to replace the hose (part $70), recharge the system (R134a refigerant $135), labor $100. The tech guy said there was barely an ounce of refrigerant remaining in the system. The transformation is complete - the air comes out the vents icy cold, as it never has before, and cools the car in a couple of minutes - 85 degrees outside. Then AUTO and 70 degrees keeps it perfect with low (and silent) fan speed. I reckon all the talk of only a single evaporator, or blocking off rear vents etc is treating the symptoms but not the cause. The hose in question is part aluminum tube and part rubber pipe - may be called the discharge hose - and if it has failed on my Edge you can be sure it is failing on others, most probably the early cars. Anyway fellow enthusiasts, sorry this is such a long post but I hope it helps - I appreciate that much of the country will be cold for a few months, but serviceable a/c helps to de-fog the windows in damp cold weather - kindly post your experiences, especially if you manage to get the work done under warranty.   12. I have turned my spare over so I can use the offset of the wheel as storage. Bit of a PITA when you want to check the tire pressure is only downside.
  13. Interesting bbf2530, I think you have contradicted yourself, and I would like to get to the truth, so not taking sides! In post #8 you state, when you turn O/D (Overdrive) off, you change absolutely nothing in the shift program other than locking out Overdrive. It does not change the shift program in any other way. In post #12 you state, It only "downshifts less" because it is not upshifting at the correct time (for normal driving). And that is because the transmission thinks you are driving in the mountains. Is the shift program for 1st to 5th gear changed at all by locking out O/D? I think it is, and to be fair to Steve, other manufacturers do refer to a program which holds lower gears longer, as SPORT. For instance BMW do this. Cheers, Andy
  14. Great thread - 7 pages, WOW! and the new mirror is a badly needed improvement so I plan to get one. But as a Brit who only lives in US part-time I am amused that all this discussion about looking over shoulders and such is necessary. In the rest of the world cars have convex mirrors on both sides and there isn't an issue. Quite why US legislation has insisted on a flat mirror on the driver's side is a mystery, given the blind spot problem that it creates. It is obvious that cars are closer than they appear, but at least they do appear!! Better to pull out in front of another car than pull into the side of it. Enough of the rant! It's not the fault of the EDGE fraternity, and congratulations to Ford on coming up with an elegant (and legal) solution. I drive a Diesel VW Touareg in England but I love my Edge here and reckon it's an under-rated car - every bit as good as the VW and much less expensive. thanks to all site contributors for many useful tips - happy holidays Cheers, Andy PS I fitted simple D-rings from Ace Hardware to the trunk floor and used the cargo net from my Escape - works great.
  15. Nice photos, EdgeLover, thank you. My 2007 has a moldy smell after 12 months in FL. so I will check/change the filter. On a rather pedantic note, the filter is surely in front of the glovebox ..............my wife's knees are behind it Cheers, Andy
