  1. Hey everybody, I just bought my 22s. They were purchased from what i thought was a very big, reputable dealer but now i'm not so sure. I purchased 8.5" width on 265/40/22s. They helped recommend the wheel, tires, sizes for both, mounted, balanced, etc.... Well i just happen to find something today after already purchasing them that says that this size tire is to be mounted on rims 9.0"-10.5". I called a few other vendors and they said that 9.0" is the minimum width that should be used with this tire size. Is the 9.0" a recommendation and is there an allowance to play with. I know the 8.5" is only 1/4" narrower on each side of the rim, but could this be a safety issue. Just when i think have things figured out, i find something to contradict it. Please help as i just dished out some serious $$ on these. Thanks!
  2. I'm buying the first set from Chad so as soon as i get them and install them, i'll take pics and post 'em.
  3. Lex, did it stop raining yet? Getting anxious for those pics Hey guys, my 22" wheels and tires are coming in tomorrow!! Now, just have to wait for the snow to disappear
  4. Ya, i know. This post wasn't related to yours. It was just something I came across while doing some searching. Thanks!
  5. Ok, i've answered my own questions since i couldn't get any help If anybody else is curious, the easy answer is stay away from wheel spacers...wow, just read some scary stories about 'em.
  6. C'mon...anybody? I called a few of the 'big' tire/wheel retailers and nobody can give me a definitive answer. I'd just really like to know if there are any issues with these wheel spacers other than having double the lug nuts on each wheel? I don't think it would result in any camber issues as the vehicle wouldn't be lowered, just hoping to find out if these are safe or really just made for 'show.
  7. I know the H&R Edge uses them but I'm thinking they would throw the camber out but not 100% sure that's the case if the overall diameter of the wheel didn't change. Say the OEM wheel setup was matched up with the spacers to give a wider stance, what would be affected, if anything?
  8. Hey guys, does anybody know anything about these wheel spacers? http://www.srbpower.com/hr/spacers.php H&R make hubcentric DRM ones for the Edge which is supposed to widen the stance of the vehicle without going to a wider tire. I was curious to hear if anybody knew anything about them. Thanks!
  9. Good research Lex...yup, no Nav system here. Hey, can you talk to Sat radio without the Nav system? I talk to my iPod and phone but didn't know about the satellite...better read my Sync manual again.
  10. Hey, I'm having the same problem. Works fine when i press the #1 & 2 on the inside of the door but can't seem to get it to recognize the key and adjust based on that. I was thinking that i misread it and it can't be done but i guess it can.
  11. I'm not sure why yours works differently but i do not have to say "usb" again. I'll be listening to the iPod, hit the voice button, say "next track" or "play artist X" and it works fine. It never prompts me for the device again.
  12. I use an iPod with the USB and don't have that problem. Never have to go back to the main menu. Just hit the 'voice' button on the steering wheel and say "next track" and it works great.
  13. Excellent, after seeing yours i'm glad i'm not dropping it. I thought it might need it with 22s but definitely not. Hmmm, not sure if metal clamps were used, I will have to look into that. Where do you get hub centric rings and lug nuts? Do you even need rings? I didn't think I would.
  14. Chad is from Unique Coatings and the ballasts are digital and completely waterproof. Should have my kit by the end of the week and I will be updating after the install.
  15. Wow Abrannan, those are some nice 22s...making me even more anxious to get mine!!! You didn't drop it, right?
  16. Hey Lex, You are right...i'm keeping my fingers crossed that the digital ballasts solves my problem. Chad is shipping my kit out to me tomorrow so i should have it soon. The kit also comes with the relay harness so the first thing i'm going to try is just adding that to my McCullogh kit that is already installed. If that works, then i'll know that was my problem with the 'non-digital' ballasts. If it doesn't, then i'll be swapping in the entire kit for the new one to see if the ballasts are the real issue. I've been doing more research on this topic and have seen some people solve the "strobe or flicker" by swapping out their 10amp fuse with a 20amp fuse. I've trying to determine if this could cause a problem with the factory wiring as it was obviously not designed for that fuse. I've seen some kits with that swap actually in their instructions but don't want to try it until I can find out for sure. Ya, please post your results as soon as you get that kit in there, i hope it works for you...and me
  17. Hey PrinzII...not trying to burst your bubble but check out some of the threads on HIDs over the past couple of weeks. Where to put the ballasts will be the least of your problems. Some are lucky right away but alot of us have had many complications with HIDs and the Edge so just make sure to do your homework.
  18. I'd have to say not too much but I may be biased as I'm working on similar upgrades as well. I love 22s on the Edge...some say it's too much but personally I don't think so. I've always been a fan of big rims though, I used to have a Civic with 19s when I was younger. I guess Ford agreed too as the new '09 Sport will have 22s from the factory. I have my 22s on order and should be getting them any day. Just have to wait for the snow to clear and they'll be on ...hopefully another month or so. You could always upgrade from 18s to 20s if you were concerned about the 22s being too much. The 20s are a nice size too and still offer a pretty soft ride. As for the HIDs...well read a few threads around here on them. You'll see I've had nothing but trouble getting these to work with the Edge however I am very determined and not giving up yet. The rest of the upgrades seem fine to me too.
  19. So true...just offer it as an option!! It's not like it's new technology anymore and for a vehicle at the price point of the Edge, it only makes sense. I must admit though, it was really the only thing i found that was missing from the Edge but i'm determined to add it somehow...even though i will be on my 3rd HID kit attempt
  20. That comparison above of HIDs in halogen housing vs projectors is ridiculous. If you want to make a true comparison, use an Edge as the basis of your test, not just some other random vehicle. Every vehicle is different, and if you did your homework, you'd realize that the edges halogen housing actually works very well with HIDs with minimal glare. A slight tweak of the adjustment screw (i believe it's clockwise to get a slighlty downward adjustment) and you are pretty much guaranteed minimal glare with much improved visibility from the HIDs. Yes, too much of an adjustment would be counter productive however a slight adjustment is fine.
  21. Well, having almost given up on HIDs for the Edge, i've decided to give Chad's kit one last try. No luck with a cheap VVME kit or a more expensive McCullogh kit so as soon as i get Chad's kit, i'll post the results. I'm really keeping my fingers crossed as this is the last shot i'm taking at HIDs.
  22. The set i'm looking at will cost about $2,500 for the rims and tires, mounted and balanced. You can spend less and you could spend more but for the exact set-up i want, this is basically what it's going to cost me. By the way, the new '09 Ford Edge Sport comes with optional 22" wheels riding on 265/40/22 Pirellis. I've had tires with alot less rubber on them than that and have never felt like the ride was that rough. I have always found that lowering springs make more of a change to the ride of a vehicle than the tires. I see people here putting on 305 width tires and such but remember that this will play serious havoc with your speedometer readings. At 265/40/22, you are just over a 2% difference from stock which is fine. I have pushed it a little further in the past but don't recommend it. I had a Honda Civic when i was younger that had 225/35/19s on it. Given the stock 15s...that was pushing it. There is alot of snow here now but i a couple months, i will have some pics up of my new 22s. Not bad when your winter wheels are 20s
  23. That just convinced me i need 22s!! My 20s just don't cut it One of the nicest Edges i've seen...well done.
  24. I also tried a cheap vvme kit. You can tell just by looking at these kits, why they are so cheap. I'm thinking of giving Chad's kit a try. They come with digital ballasts and relays in case they are needed. I will keep updating my progress.
