  1. A simple thing that I would like myself...

And have it resort to the USB every time you turn the car on...no matter what you left it on when it was turned off. sad.gif

I'd like to see cooled seats...but for the few times I'll drive it in the summer, I'm not overly concerned.

As for the heated seats, I'd rather see the '5 dial' settings they have in the focus, rather than the Non-existant 1 setting, and the burn your arse 2 setting we have.

What? That makes no sense...if I leave my 08 on "USB", the next time I get in it is still on "USB". If I leave it on radio, then it stays on radio. Why would you want it to default to the USB port?

  2. Old thread, and I did not read through all the posts...but the biggest thing I would change is the "Ford Green" color of the instrument cluster illumination. Having owned or driven several different makes of Ford/Mercury over the years, I am here to tell you that the color has not changed. At all.

Being able to change the color like in the new Mustangs would be nice.

There are 2 in each door plus the sub in the back. Each door houses what appears to be about a 4-4.5 inch midbass and a separate tweeter (that's 8 of your 9). My guess is the Kickers will sound better just as the JBLs do to me. The JBLs have a pivoting tweeter that allows some adjustment to the direction of the highs, but with the design of the door panel and how it protrudes out near the speaker grill opening, a component setup with tweeters you can mount elsewhere would achieve the best sound. It was definitely worth it to me to make the swap. It's not high fidelity, but for $125 it's a definite improvement over the the dated OEMs. </p></blockquote>

So, the door speakers are component speakers, and not something like two two way 6x8", 8 in the doors total?

  4. As I understand it, I have 9 speakers in my Edge: 2 in each door, and a sub behind the right-hand cargo area panel.

I also have the in-dash navigation/Sync system, which is the audiophile system, I think?

    Here are my questions:

Can I replace the speakers and sub without replacing the stock head unit and get better sound?

Is the factory amp running all the speakers, or just the sub, and would the amp have to be bypassed/replaced?

If the door speakers are running off the head unit with no amp, what wattage does the head unit put out?

Are the factory speakers/subwoofer 2 ohm or 4 ohm, and can the aftermarked speakers be either?

Where is the factory amp located, what are it's specs, and can it be upgraded/replaced?

The last time I replaced my stereo, it was in my Intrepid with the Infinity system, but I replaced the head unit, bypassed and removed the factory amp, installed a 5 channel amp, component speakers in the front with crossovers, 2 way speakers in the rear, and a 10 inch sub in a box in the trunk. In my Edge, replacing the factory unit is really not an option as both my wife and I like the head unit and the features it has.

  5. I had 20% on my Intrepid, with Florida tags. Of course, this was back when 20% was legal in Florida. I got pulled over once in GA and once in NC, but all I did was show the FL driver's license and registration and I was on my merry way. I am going this weekend to have the front windows done on the Edge, but I am not sure which level I am going to do yet since I currently have TN tags. I will eventually swap the registration to my old FL tags.

  6. Picked up my new (to me) 2008 Limited on Friday, with 82000 miles on the clock. Spent today detailing it and driving around. Here are my first impressions:

    Pros:

The seats are very firm, but comfortable. The heaters came in handy after dinner out with the wife and kids when the temp dropped into the 30s!

The power liftgate is the coolest thing I have ever seen! The wife loves it as well, especially when grocery shopping.

The homelink system is cool as well, but I had it in my last car so I am used to it. One thing I don't like about it is the button are TINY!

Tons of room in the car/truck/SUV/whatever...I think I could fit a toddler in the center console.

SMOOTH RIDE! My last car was a 2000 Dodge Intrepid ES, leather/power everything. The ride quality in the Edge is far above that of the Intrepid, especially with the absolute lack of road noise in the cabin. On the way back from dinner, we took the highway, and the only road noise I could hear was from the wind gusts.

Headlight output is very bright, I felt like I could see forever, lol!

The power output is more then adequate for what I need. I was going 60 before I even realized it, and it did not feel like I was going that fast. I may add a K&N Intake at some point, maybe some other tuning goodies, but I have not decided yet.

    Cons:

Plastic everywhere. WTF was Ford thinking? Leather seats, plastic everything else? I think that Ford really dropped the ball in this aspect.

Why are the seat backs NOT power articulated like the rest of the seat? Why are the rearview mirror and the steering wheel not power adjustable? It makes no sense to have memory seating if the only things in memory is the seat position and the side mirrors.

Speaking of mirrors...are the "blind spot" mirrors supposed to actually do anything? I find them to be a distraction more than a help.

The extra-long brake pedal travel took a little getting used to, but it is not that bad...but could be a little tighter. Also, why are the pedals not adjustable?

    Additional stuff:

I will not get into the Sync system. It has it's own list of pros and cons that I am sure that have been documented ad infinitum on here. I will say that it is nice to have a stereo that effortlessly works with my Zune, rather than having to use an aux jack and cable, or break down and buy an iSomething. The nav worked fine, although I don't understand why it costs $200 for an updated DVD. The voice recognition is a little spotty, I am hoping it works better after I set up the user profile.

Anyway, those are my first impressions after my first weekend of ownership.

  7. Well, after 6 years and 82000 miles, my faithful 2000 Dodge Intrepid ES was totaled on Monday. After shopping around, I found a 2008 Ford Edge Limited for a little over $17,000, 82000 miles on the clock.

I am picking it up tomorrow, and looking forward to a (hopefully) dependable auto for me and my family.
