  1. Have you physically looked under the car? Possibly an exhaust hanger has broken and the pieces are just barely touching.

Any possibility that some change or other small stuff have fallen below the center console storage area into the area under the console?

Took a quick look but couldn't see anything out of the ordinary...but I'm not a expert on cars so may have missed something.

I was thinking something like that, couldn't really find access point inside the Edge to take a good look. Any suggestions on this one?

  2. AC drain plug clogged? Shot in the dark on this. Does water drain outside onto the pavement when AC is operating? IF no water then you have a clogged drain plug.

AC drains fine, no issues there.

This might be an issue if water backs up enough to pour into the blower, causing partial or full failure. Check the cabin air filter.

Replaced the air filter in June, but I'll take a look.

IF it is a bad cat, the cat has broken up pieces inside that would likely set off a check engine light, and even cause loss of power because that side of the exhaust id clogged. Poor mileage would be snother confirmation.

Some say the pieces can be sucked back into the engine. But IDK. I suppose if the exhaust is highly modified it is possible.

Best to have a mechanic check out the unfernody/suspension/exhaust on a lift. Somehow something could have gotten trapped in there.

No check engine light, loss of power, decreased milage, etc.

  3. The first thing that comes to mind (similar) is marbles rolling around, and that usually means a catalyst has gone bad. From the location, it would be the Bank 1 catalyst in this case.

Unless something got dropped into the center console, not sure what else it could be. I have seen it posted elsewhere that it might be engine knock or detonation if bad enough.

Rolling marbles is a good description. What are the consequences of not having it fixed immediately? Id like to have that specific Ford dealership to look at it but work full time in another city (just graduated).

  4. Possibly an exhaust shield, if it sounds tinny. How many miles on your Edge? FWD or AWD? Any recent service or "incidents" or other issues?

Just over 96k miles, FWD. Rear brakes replaced last winter at Midas while in college, entire power steering had to be replaced last August by local mechanics while home for the summer, got new tires towards the end of May/early June at highly reviewed Ford dealership. The dealership did say my power steering was starting binding and the rack needs to be replaced but it's not an urgent issue (under 3 year warranty thank god).

Edit: it sounds like metal tools or nuts/screws rolling around

  5. Good news! There's a 2 year warranty on what the mechanic fixed (they have a few locations so they're an established company, but not a big corporation like Jiffy Lube). I have to call a Goodyear service center to set up an appointment, where they will take a look at everything and make any necessary fixes.

I'd still rather have VanBortle Ford make the fix, but if there's a 2 year warranty in place then I feel more at ease.

  6. Pretty sure it was aftermarket, which is why I want the Ford dealership handeling the fix this time.

Didn't have time to get a second option because I just moved out and started a job, but I do trust the dealership. Based on my own experiences vs other dealers and online reviews.

  7. Hi all,

Got new tires today and when I dropped off the Edge I asked if they could look into the plastic rattling noise that would occur while driving on the highway. Turned out to just be the air damn, but the dealership noticed my steering seemed off. With my permission they took a look at the power steering. They called to say it wasn't leaking, but that my rack should be replaced in the near future because my steering is binding.

    What does that mean? :drop:

We just had the entire power steering system replaced last summer by a trusted mechanic. I want them to pay for the Ford dealer to replace the rack because it hasn't even been a year with the new system. Is this possible/realistic?

Side note, my new Michelin Premier LTXs are awesome and the car is a lot quieter now!

  8. Brake fluid looks much better! You might want to periodically watch it to see if any debris comes out, and replace a bit at a time instead of flushing. Take what's accessible in the reservoir (no more than say till 1/2 way down the neck) and replace.

For the power steering fluid, have you tried getting the air out by a] verifying the fluid is indeed filled correctly to the FULL line, b] taking the reservoir cap off, and c] turning the steering wheel lock to lock 10x or so (do not hold at lock position) while the engine is running?

Worked perfectly!! My steering sometimes made this weird whirling noise which I found strange bc it was new, and that took care of the noise & stiff wheel.

You really should learn to DIY. It is so easy. Save $100.

Trans-gender bathrooms - we need lots up here with the seven sexes. LGBTQ and of course M & F. When will this end?

I just graduated college, and I'm moving out of my parents house tomorrow. I'd love to learn how to do these things on my own but right now is not the time, nor do I have the equipment :drop:

Edit: Regarding your LGBTQ comment..I'm gay and find this whole situation kinda strange. I didn't think it was a problem until we started making a big deal out of it. I doubt anyone noticed a trans-male going into the womens bathroom or vice versa

  9. Here's a before and after from my break flush . The breaks feel a little less spongey & seems to have more confidence :love_shower:

Last question I promise... I think there's air in my power steering system. It's all brand new (replaced early Fall) but it's pretty tight. Would a power steering flush take care of this? I have to get new tires soon and would get this done at the same time.

  10. Bad. It should be clear. Won't hurt to replace it.

Just called local ford dealership, a flush is $99. Having it done tomorrow :)

Edit: checked power steering and transmission fluids and they're all good & at max level. Stopping at Autozone today for a new air filter that I'll throw in my self. My dad helped me clean off the gunk on my battery and added water

  11. I would recommend a transmission fluid complete change. I have posted several video's on this subject. Also you are way over due a brake fluid replacement. Last but not least a full Mercon V power steering fluid change yes it will use the same fluid as the transmission. Made a video on how to to all this so it is simple. You can do all this for under 250 dollars easily and that is if you have a garage do the transmission flush.

I'll have to wait 'til I move this weekend, but it's on my list! It's funny you mentioned power steering, because in the fall my entire power steering system had to be replaced :drop:

  12. Edit: I orginially posted about the trany AND brake fluid flush, but axing the tansmission flush. After doing some searching online I checked my fluid and it smells new, is still pink and between the fill lines.

My 2008 Edge SEL has ~92,000 miles on it. We bought it used at around 60-65,000 miles with no records of previous maintanence. Since I got it it's been through mostly city miles. Would you recommend a brake fluid flush/replace? The car always felt a little spongey when breaking but that seems to be a thing with all Edges this year.

Bonus: I need new tires!! I'll be living in Buffalo, NY this winter, so that means lots of snow. I did the penny test the other day and all tires are pretty worn. I'd like to get a good pair of all seasons that handle reasonably well in the snow. I just graduated and will be moving out next weekend so I don't necessarily have money to spend on 2 sets of tires. Any recommendations? I have FWD if that means anything.

    Thanks! :hat_tip:

  13. Hi all, anyone do a front end swap and put a 2nd generation grille, bumper and headlights on their 1st generation edge? If so, roughly how much did it cost?

I really like the look of the front ends on the newer edges and want HID lights but refuse to put them in halogen reflectors. Trying to decide if I should do a front end swap or just get the aftermarket lights for my 08

  14. I've tried several angles and nothing helps. I noticed it's more prone to happen when the car is locked by pressing lock twice, having the horn beep. Locking it once has a lesser occurrence of the problem. I manually pulled the lock up and pressed it down and it almost seems sticky - might be frozen water from snow or just the cold is effecting it. I'm gonna try again tomorrow

  15. Hey guys, this just happened the other day. On my key I'll press unlock twice and all doors expect the driver's side unlock. That door's lock sporadically goes up and down for ~2 seconds and stays locked. But if I get in the car's passenger seat and use the remote unlock I can open it from the interior (still goes up and down for 2 seconds). Using the interior lock/unlock switch on the driver's door panel correctly unlocks the door with no problems.

Has anyone experienced this? I've used both sets of keys and they do the same thing. My only guess is the cold weather but honestly don't think that would have an effect on remote lock/unlock functions...especially for just one door?

  16. There's a few modifications I'd like to do to my Edge ;)

1.) LED lights in the reflector for tail lights - basically what was done on this thread http://www.fordedgeforum.com/topic/11875-ford-edge-led-taillight-reflector-conversion/

The user who made them hasn't been on in months and I was wondering if anyone had any insight as how to do this

2.) Change my DRLs from the low beam to my front fog lights - has anyone done this, I'd imagine it can't be that hard. Either rewiring or a trip to the dealership

3.) Projector retrofit http://www.hidplanet.com/forums/album.php?albumid=118&attachmentid=858 I contacted a retrofit company for a quote, but if anyone here can do them I'd appreciate it

EDIT: 4.) Change dashboard/cluster lighting - I HATE the green it feels outdated. I was thinking keeping the red needles, white for the main parts of the gauges and blue for the other parts (km conversion, Hot/Cold End points, etc)

    Open to any comments/suggestions!

  17. Hey guys, my 08 came with DRLs activated but I wanna switch them to the fog lights. I took them to the Ford dealership near my house and they told me "it's not possible and iv'e never heard of a car having fog lights for drls" ... I know the second part is false as the Camaro, Enclave and several other cars have their fog lights for day time lights.

So, has anyone switched the fog lights on for day time running lights? And how much did the dealership charge you?
