  1. Exhaust will be changed, so I'm not worried about it. The drive shaft won't be changed. I know it's not important to most but for me, it's just an irritant knowing it's there.

Since I will be moving to florida and will be very close to the Gulf, rust is an issue that if dealt with now, the car will last longer. At least I don't have to deal with road salt anymore. The car was run through and underbody wash consistently her in NY.

  2. Would bug the heck outta me too!

At last! I have proof for my wife that I'm not crazy. She told me to stop looking under the car. Kinda like when you say "Doc, it hurts when I do this with my arm" and the doctor just says "Then don't do it anymore."

  3. I know it's a pain. My 2008 Impala could tell me which tire was low. Problem arose when I would rotate my tires. I don't let anyone else touch my car(s). I couldn't tell which tire was low on air after rotating the tires. I just made sure I checked all the tires regularly. This is a regular ritual for me so it's no big deal.

As far as the TPMS, I thought they were all the same as far as how they get their readings. I was wrong with my wife's VW Turbo Bug. Apparently, their wheel sensors monitor wheel rotation speed. If there is a deviation in wheel speed, the light goes off. Once the tire is checked and all is well, you can reset the system with the car "on" but not running with a button in the glove box.

Every company has their methods but the important thing is that monitoring is done. Just remember what you used to do before there were even TPMS systems around. We all checked the tires, at least most of us did.

Your car may be a "utility" to get around but in reality it's an investment for safety and convenience. Don't just put your key in and go. You have a responsibility to yourself and to keep up on the maintenance.

  4. I have had this problem sporadically with other cars. Put all your windows down, place your a/c on the fresh air setting (not recirculate) and spray the lysol into the vent intake. Lyson will kill the mold and bacteria in the system.

I know, there are those that say to never do that, but I did it a few times on various cars and the smell never came back. Just make sure to use your a/c on the fresh air setting often. It helps control the stink from coming back. While you are at it, change your cabin filter as well.

  5. gallery_31460_642_26243.jpgWhile under my car doing regular maintenance and inspection, I saw how rusty the driveshaft has become in less than a year of ownership.

I know grinding off the surface rust is a no-no because I can offset the balance. IF I spray some rust inhibitor to convert rust as well as prevent future rust from forming and then spray paint it black, do you think it will offset the balance of the driveshaft?

  6. Eek! The exhaust should be T304, and the driveshaft would be chromeplated or carbonfiber if I had my way. Nobody looks under their vehicles on a regular basis, so most times, nothing is done about it, probably de facto standard for the industry.

Out of sight, out of mind. Most people don't get a chance to see under their car, you are right. Every one of my RWD cars has rust on the driveshaft. I was just caught off guard when I saw the Edge's underbelly. I'm so tempted to remove it and refinish it and place rust inhibitors and repaint BUT I don't want to do anything to it physically and risk affecting the balance of the drive shaft.

  7. It's a Bendpak HD9ST. Medium duty rating for about 8000 lbs. The garage was added to the house about 6 years ago. When my dad first bought the house, it was a typical 60's style ranch with a one car garage that could barely fit my Tahoe in it. We closed off the original garage to make it a work shop. The new garage is a 30x30 work area with 18' ceilings to accommodate the lift. We wanted to put a second lift but it would be too crowded. The bandpass we have now can be moved if the casters are placed in then lowered all the way to make it raise itself and moveable. Instead we went with a scissor lift on the other side for brakes and other things that just required the car to be raised about waist height.

Right now, it's just the Z06, the Impala SS and the 72 LeMans that stay in there. Everything is outside under a weather proof cover and parked off to the side. Hard to explain but I'll show in a pic if I could find one. I'm going to miss my babies when I move to Florida next week. Once I find a house down there that suits my needs (or build one), the cars will follow me down.

  8. Well, the time is starting to draw closer for when I will be relocating to Florida. Had the Edge on the lift for an oil change and general inspection. I still have to install the Class 3 hitch, HD trans cooler and wiring this weekend. I'm not liking the rust on the drive shaft and exhaust. The vehicle isn't even 1 year old. It's all surface crap anyway, but still not appealing to the eye. :gaah:

  9. Seeing this post, it has me thinking again, since I have the same head unit in my SE. Has anyone ever taken out the head unit and noticed if there is an auxiliary video input pigtail or plug in there? I don't want to disassemble the unit just to check if someone already has the answer. If it does, is there something that has to be done by the dealer to turn on this function or is it just plug and play? Inquiring minds want to know!

  10. I am going to wait a few weeks to do that once I have more miles on it. I have Torque that has a 0-60 component but I have not used it yet.

Before I bought my Edge last year, I romped on it. I basically drove it like I stole it, and yes the salesman was in the car with me for the test drive. He and I agreed, that's what the warranty is for.

  11.

    a) Even to this day, I still want one of those with a few "tweaks" including a TT427 backed with a 6L90E.

    B) That car was based off the 9C1 Caprice which was the police package. I liked the 9C1s even from a looks standpoint. Cops I knew loved them so much that some municipalities in Chicago actually sent them to a place in Jersey that would refurbish them.

If it was me, I would go a different route. Put in a new LS3 Crate and a 6 speed manual in there. If I were to do it, I just need one that has been beat to hell. I'm not concerned with keeping it "numbers correct" since I already have one. There are a few out there on Ebay but I'm going mohave to put that on hold since I'm in the middle of a relocation for work.

Just got the car, couldn't help myself. I was 26 and just had to do it. At least I waited till initial "break-in" was finished. ;)

  12. JOJO, I always thought that the Impala SS of that era was a great car. But if I recall correctly it was not a good selling ride. Too bad. You don't see many of them anymore.

You are correct. At the time they were introduced for production by Jon Moss for the 94-96 production years, it wasn't really on anyone's radar as a "must have." Only the gear heads really knew about it. After all it was a land yacht weighing in at over 2 tons but a 4 door sedan with an LT-1 ... it surprised many unsuspecting cars at the stop light. It still retains its popularity with collectors. I just love the car. It's not a "sports car" but it sure can boogie down the road! It's a car that exudes attitude in a subtle way.

  13. I had the opportunity to drive along with a buddy without the tow package. He was towing a 19' center console with a 150hp outboard Mercruiser hanging off the back. Trailer and boat easily came close to 3000lbs with gear and gas. The Edge did fine (Limited AWD). We towed it on a 100+mile trip averaging 60 mph on the highway. The fact that the trailer had a surge system for brakes really helped. He had the setup that I am putting on my edge, for towing.

    • Class 3 hitch
    • Four pin wiring
    • HD Ttranny cooler (w/fan)
    • Tranny Temp gauge

The Edge didn't even bat an eyelash or break a sweat. While towing I believe the temp hovered around 200-210 F. He has been towing his boat for for the better part of 2 seasons. His Edge was purchased new and now has about 30K on the odometer. With his set up, my confidence was boosted with the towing upgrade I will be doing to my Edge. Important thing, other than going over the tow rating, is making sure you have your tongue weight set up correctly so you're not "nosing up" while towing to prevent fishtailing and instability. Also remember to adjust the setting in the driver settings for towing so the engine is always searching for the right gear.

  14. Beautiful collection (cars)! Like every one of 'em. Glad your wife puts up with it ;)

She "tolerates" it. I use that word loosely. She can't stand driving in the Vette. Says it's too fast, too loud and too low. I can't blame her. It is a kindney buster and not really intended for extended driving. But she knows this is my joy and says "At least the women you're fooling around with are heavier than me." LOL!

  15. Some say that I am going through a mid-life crisis. Yeah right ... I just love cars. If that is the case, I've been going through this "crisis" since I was 26. I sat down and counted all the cars I had since I started driving. From what I can count and remember, the total is 22. I bought and sold a lot of muscle cars during my years but these are the cars that I am keeping. Thank goodness for my parents having a house with over an acre of land so I can store these babies there. I think we got it from my dad. Between him, my brother and myself, the house looks like there's a party every day with all the cars parked there. LOL

gallery_31460_642_65377.jpgThis was my first new car purchase. 1996 Impala SS DCM (Julie). Still have it. Only 21K on the odometer. All stock

gallery_31460_642_143684.jpgThis was my second new purchase. 1999 Tahoe Limited (Tami). Only 7200 made. 2WD Vortec L31 engine and Federal edition Pursuit package. No options. Only OnStar, Towing Package and Engine warmer were options. It only came in Onyx Black.

gallery_31460_642_152745.jpgThis was my third new purchase. 2006 Z06 (Betty) with 3LT package (fully loaded). This was a "post divorce gift" to myself after the first wife.

  16. The led bar is just mounted to he bumper and wired to the old foglight wiring that was replaced by the custom led DRL foglight Panels i made. If you are referring to the lights in the top center of the grill i actaully found individual LEDS and mounted them to the grill one by one. Speaking of though, My light bar is for sale 175$ plus shipping

I like the LED Light bar. What are the dimensions? How far does it stick out from the front fascia? What is the brand? How many Lumens is it? Is it flood and spot or just flood lighting? Do you have closeups of how you mounted it?
