    Towing

The drive down for relocation starts tomorrow at midnight! 1286 miles door to door
  2. Exhaust will be changed, so I'm not worried about it. The drive shaft won't be changed. I know it's not important to most but for me, it's just an irritant knowing it's there. Since I will be moving to florida and will be very close to the Gulf, rust is an issue that if dealt with now, the car will last longer. At least I don't have to deal with road salt anymore. The car was run through and underbody wash consistently her in NY.
  3. At last! I have proof for my wife that I'm not crazy. She told me to stop looking under the car. Kinda like when you say "Doc, it hurts when I do this with my arm" and the doctor just says "Then don't do it anymore."
  4. I know it's a pain. My 2008 Impala could tell me which tire was low. Problem arose when I would rotate my tires. I don't let anyone else touch my car(s). I couldn't tell which tire was low on air after rotating the tires. I just made sure I checked all the tires regularly. This is a regular ritual for me so it's no big deal. As far as the TPMS, I thought they were all the same as far as how they get their readings. I was wrong with my wife's VW Turbo Bug. Apparently, their wheel sensors monitor wheel rotation speed. If there is a deviation in wheel speed, the light goes off. Once the tire is checked and all is well, you can reset the system with the car "on" but not running with a button in the glove box. Every company has their methods but the important thing is that monitoring is done. Just remember what you used to do before there were even TPMS systems around. We all checked the tires, at least most of us did. Your car may be a "utility" to get around but in reality it's an investment for safety and convenience. Don't just put your key in and go. You have a responsibility to yourself and to keep up on the maintenance.
  5. I have had this problem sporadically with other cars. Put all your windows down, place your a/c on the fresh air setting (not recirculate) and spray the lysol into the vent intake. Lyson will kill the mold and bacteria in the system. I know, there are those that say to never do that, but I did it a few times on various cars and the smell never came back. Just make sure to use your a/c on the fresh air setting often. It helps control the stink from coming back. While you are at it, change your cabin filter as well.
  6. I'll do it once I get the car back on the lift. It may be just surface rust but it bugs me.
  7. While under my car doing regular maintenance and inspection, I saw how rusty the driveshaft has become in less than a year of ownership. I know grinding off the surface rust is a no-no because I can offset the balance. IF I spray some rust inhibitor to convert rust as well as prevent future rust from forming and then spray paint it black, do you think it will offset the balance of the driveshaft?

    Getting ready

Out of sight, out of mind. Most people don't get a chance to see under their car, you are right. Every one of my RWD cars has rust on the driveshaft. I was just caught off guard when I saw the Edge's underbelly. I'm so tempted to remove it and refinish it and place rust inhibitors and repaint BUT I don't want to do anything to it physically and risk affecting the balance of the drive shaft.

    Getting ready

It's a Bendpak HD9ST. Medium duty rating for about 8000 lbs. The garage was added to the house about 6 years ago. When my dad first bought the house, it was a typical 60's style ranch with a one car garage that could barely fit my Tahoe in it. We closed off the original garage to make it a work shop. The new garage is a 30x30 work area with 18' ceilings to accommodate the lift. We wanted to put a second lift but it would be too crowded. The bandpass we have now can be moved if the casters are placed in then lowered all the way to make it raise itself and moveable. Instead we went with a scissor lift on the other side for brakes and other things that just required the car to be raised about waist height. Right now, it's just the Z06, the Impala SS and the 72 LeMans that stay in there. Everything is outside under a weather proof cover and parked off to the side. Hard to explain but I'll show in a pic if I could find one. I'm going to miss my babies when I move to Florida next week. Once I find a house down there that suits my needs (or build one), the cars will follow me down.

    Getting ready

Well, the time is starting to draw closer for when I will be relocating to Florida. Had the Edge on the lift for an oil change and general inspection. I still have to install the Class 3 hitch, HD trans cooler and wiring this weekend. I'm not liking the rust on the drive shaft and exhaust. The vehicle isn't even 1 year old. It's all surface crap anyway, but still not appealing to the eye.
  11. Deer tested and approved!
  12. Seeing this post, it has me thinking again, since I have the same head unit in my SE. Has anyone ever taken out the head unit and noticed if there is an auxiliary video input pigtail or plug in there? I don't want to disassemble the unit just to check if someone already has the answer. If it does, is there something that has to be done by the dealer to turn on this function or is it just plug and play? Inquiring minds want to know!
  13. Before I bought my Edge last year, I romped on it. I basically drove it like I stole it, and yes the salesman was in the car with me for the test drive. He and I agreed, that's what the warranty is for.
  14. I was looking at your pictures. The second thumbnail shows cracking on the shoulder tread. If I was in your shoes, I would replace them.
