  1. Hello - twice in the last month my Sirius preset stations have all defaulted to the Sirius national weather channel. No big deal other than the hassle of presetting all my favorite channels again. Any idea(s) why this is happening? I drive an 08 SEL...have owned it a year without this happening before. Thanks!
  2. Roll the rear windows down an inch to equalize the interior air pressure...this allows the cabin air to flow without the resonating sound you're hearing.
  3. Thanks -that's an interesting feature. Will the engine shut off or does it just transition into an "idle" state?
  4. 08 FWD SEL: When I start from a stand still and accelerate hard (OD off), the Tach needle will run up to 6000 RPMs before the trans wants to make it's final shift. I was wondering if this seems normal for any other Edge owners. No complaints but I do see the red caution line on the Tachometer face at the 7000 RPM mark.
  5. I took the cabin filter screen out of my 08 SEL and was surprised how clean it was and how fine of a mesh the screen is. I'll just stick with it instead of trying to incorporate a paper filter. Plus since it's reusable, I'll save some bucks not having to buy replacement filters. I wonder what the advantage was that Ford had in mind with the paper filters....?
  6. blockisle9: I have an 08 SEL...was your filter a screen?
  7. Is the cabin air filter installed for recirculated air or for fresh intake air.....or maybe both? I have an 08 SEL manual AC and I'm assuming I'll find a screen instead of a filter....can't see why replacing with a filter could do any harm....any thoughts? Thanks, Andy
  8. Thanks for the photos...I've released the string hook on my 08 SEL and removed the glovebox...your pics look exact but I'm having difficulty seeing how to open the filter access door. Do you squeeze a release tab or is there a pry off tab...? Just wondering as I don't want to force and crack it , etc.... Andy
  9. By any chance do you have Side Window Deflectors installed?
  10. The stock 18 inch Michelins that came on my FWD 08 SEL perform very well in the snow - and we had the ice in Baltimore today which I had no problem getting around. Tires definitely make a big difference on a FWD model.
  11. Just curious: What do mean exactly by "driving in snow"? No front wheel drive vehicle is meant for ATV style driving. Did you purchase the Edge as a commuter vehicle in the snow belt? If so, the dealer should have sold you an AWD.
  12. Ford Dealer in Baltimore, MD just quoted me $88.87 for the mirror; $228.85 for the whole housing and mirror. $....hmmmm?
  13. I agree - just seems a parts dept ought to have some kind of access availble to them as to whether we're talking just the mirrors, or the body/mirror combo. I have to think if it's the body/mirror combo then Ford will want big bucks for the replacement part....not to mention what's involved with replacement labor (if it's possible). I was looking at my 08 SEL's mirrors and they seem pretty "tight" and no easy way to dissemble them...wouldn't want to void any warranty on those babies if I broke something trying....ughh!
  14. I checked with a Ford dealer parts dept yesterday and he said I need a part number(s) before he can order the bindspot mirrors...and he doubts if they'll retro fit my 08 SEL....? Anyone get this feedback also? Thanks
  15. I ordered a cover from Dashtopper.com for my '08 SEL ...custom cut for a perfect fit...protects the dash and cuts down on heat and the windshield glare.
  16. Do you know if Ford going to put these mirrors on both driver and passenger sides?
  17. Hi bbf2530 and PrinzII: Thanks a bunch for your replies. It is a very slight "drift" when I brake, but I'll mention it to Service when I take it in. I would think a right caliper isn't "closing" as it should? Also - where can I find the TSB;s you are mentioning? Thanks !
  18. Purchased new 2008 SEL FWD, now has 3300 miles; I feel a slight tracking to the left when braking. Is this something that will correct itself over time? Is this common with FW drive vehicles? Thanks !
  19. My dealer included free oil changes (and washes) for life on my 2008SEL...is this becoming standard in the dealer business?
  20. These are very helpful responses and thank you everyone. So let me get this straight: When you start the engine, the AT RSC system is automatically turned on...(but no icon light appears on the dash). If you want to turn it off, you push the dash button and the icon light comes on (like the over-drive light does....when it's lit it's off - when not lit it's on)....Right - I hope?
  21. ha - I know what you mean. Apparently the "Stability Control System" feature always starts on with the ignition...the Edge manual just didn't give a clear enough descritption about all their buzz words referring to this and when/why/where is the best selection for normal driving with this feature (always on of course....unless you choose off....hmmmm?).
  22. Thanks for the help. I saw that section in my 2008 manual and couldn't interpret if "Traction Control", "Electronic Stability Control", and "Roll Stability Control" were all separate features for AWD and/or FWD...that referred to their "Stability Control System" mentioned in the instrumentation panel chart. So does driving on dry roads at the speed limit warrant using all of the above ion or off?
  23. Just bought a 2008 SEL FWD Edge...really enjoying the ride after driving an Explorer for several years. The Edge owner's manual refers to the "Stability Control System"...apparently there's a switch on the dash that you can turn this feature off/on...(little car icon w/ tire marks). I can't find anywhere in the manual that explains what exactly the "Stability Control System" does....or why/when you would want to switch it off. The Edge always starts with it on and you can swith it off which makes the icon light up on the dash instrumentation. Also, if this feature promoted driving/steering stability, why would you want to ever turn it off....does it affect gas mileage? Thanks for any clearification with this!
