  1. First time owning an AWD vehicle. I am very impressed with the design overall. I am from Chicago, and live near by. Brutal winters here, and worth the peace of mind not hearing from my wife about getting stuck in snow. Strongly advise AWD owners to change out the PTU slime and use uality products, including heat dissipating additives every 30K. Reminds me of the nylon timing gears they used on Pontiacs when we were taking them apart in the 70's....teeth break off, drop in pan and pickup..no oil pressure, timing erratic..etc..
  2. Our Edge ran smooth when I drove it at the car dealer. However, when I used the Lubegard products in the power steering and engine, it was real quiet. Now that I added the Royal Purple 75-140W gear oil and Lubegard additive to the PTU, it seems whisper quiet on the road. Only road noise I hear is from the tires that have mileage on them from the dealer. ...I don't work for RP or Lubegard :-) Cheers
  3. Only 12 measly ounces for a drivetrain power transfer unit? 285 HP?......yeah right...sealed unit...
  4. Thanks for the update guys... I am sure I am using the right weight gear lube....I am VERY impressed with Royal Purple and Lubegard products. I noticed a very slight whine at the end range of the steering when we first bought the Edge a couple of weeks ago. I put the 4 ounce bottle of Lubegard in the power steering, and it was perfect. I even drained 4 quarts from the trans and added Lubegard trans fluid. I think it is really wise to drain 4 quarts every 40 Kmiles and keep the fluid fresh. Just a matter of how long you want to keep these vehicles running right?....and YES, Ford wants us to pay 2K$ for another PTU.. ...based on that vile slime that came out of the PTU at 42 Kmiles.....Cheers!!
  5. I put our 2011 Edge AWD on 10 inch ramps today and drained only about 6 ounces of PTU fluid. I used a good vacuum device, and was as far down into the PTU housing as possible. The fluid was black and almost sticky. The magnetic fill plug had a small amount of filings on it. THe Eddge has 42K miles, and we bought it used. I refilled the PTU with 90-140W Royal purple and added Lubegard Gear additive to the Royal purple as well. I filled it to where it dribbled out slightly from the fill hole. It used about 8 onces of fluid. I am aware that the vehicle was not level, but I know I added more than what came out. I do not believe the car being on 10 inch ramps makes that much difference. Well worth your time changing the fluid out every 4oK miles or possibly less than paying 2K dollars for another PTU unit prematurely...cheers Odd that only 6 ounces of fluid came out. I have worked on cars for quite a few years off and on,,,
  6. Brings back fond memories of my cousins 125 Kawasaki back in the 70's. We rode all over the Ozarks. I kknow you will have a lot of fun with your new bike. Really cool.....cheers
