No joke about the wallet bgeing in your back pocket. It will definitely mess up the biomechanics of your spine and many times result in PAIN. I never wear a wallet in my back pocket, and I have told my patients the same.

I sold my 68 Firebird back in 1988. IThe guy who bought it asked to drive the car first. I said you can go for a ride, but you get to drive it after you buy it. There used to be a big statue of an indian on 63rd asnd pulaski in CHicago. My brother and I think they found half of that guy in the statue and half in a tree after I sold it to him. = not sure, but he and his friend were the type of idiots that would have ended up that way!

THe key to the flaky problems you are experiencing may likely answered by the blazer issue with the bad GROUND. They will have to make certain that the grounding lugs for the instrument panel, likely at a junction box as well are grounded properly. You must make certai n that the grounds are clean, and tight. The ground to the frame and the battery ground must be cleaned and tightened. I was a Biomedical Field Engineer for over 8 years in my past. I have seen a bad ground cause many intermittent problems...Best of luck

I drained 4 quarts from our Edge when we first got it. I put in L:ubegard trans fluid. I will change out 4 quarts around every 30K.

IN the 80's, I had a new GM company car. The car stopped dead in the street, and they towed the vehicle to a Buick dealer. The service manager said that I ran out of gas. I told him that I had to go from CHicago to Indianapolis, and that I would be very irate if I could not start the vehicle. I told them that the ignition module failed. I went to start the car after it was running for some time and it would not start. I helped the mechanic push it into a stall. He burned his hands checking the ignition module. He had to replace it. I was a little ticked off, so I approached the sevice manager and told him that I was from Buick service divison and I was checking on the efficacy of their mechanics and dealership. I handed him my card which read; Dupont Clinical Systems Service Representative...he regained his breath

Really important in this day and age to gain some rudimentary knowledge of auto mechanics and electronic control systems. My sons friends have no interest in auto mechanics. I had to help get my sons friend get his car startyed. He had no idea why the engine would not crank. The shifter was "stuck" between park and reverse...;-(

Solenoid is grounded to starter motor right? Nice and warm , since the starter is bolted to the engine...... Slow cranking many times dsue to failing armature windings in starter.(battery, cables, etc. ruiled out) Hot engine and no cranking= failing starter solenoid on GM engines ( my only experience since 70's ;-) ) Please let us know failure...cheers

If battery connections are clean and tight, it is likely the solenoid is failing for the starter. THe windings in the starter motor could also be failing. Time to get the starter tested,

One of the very biggest reasons for dealing with poor fuel economy is the safety factor. I would much rather be getting 20 mpg from an Edge rather than 32 from a Yugo or whatever, when I got hit from a big SUV or truck ;-) I will not buy a vehicle smaller than my 2000 grand prix GTX

I have a performance fuel pump that is mounted in the tank of my grand prix. The new pumps are not very big, and have to move a lot of gas. It only makes sense to me that a higher level of fuel would dissipate heat away from those small aerator style pumps. Heat is the enemy of electric motors and electronics.

Definitely has me getting to the gas pump when I get low ;-)

The high pressure fuel pump in modern vehicles with fuel injection gets cooled by the fuel in the tank. Driving on a regular basis with a few gallons, will likely result in early failure of the fuel pump due to excess heat. Having to refill at gas stations more often would reduce economy as well as the additional hassle.

They say that the best electrical; contact cleaner spray is called DeOxit. I just purchased a can. Check out reviews on Amazon. Guys that work on their antique stereo equipment use it a lot.

Wouldn't doubt that the fuel injectors are a little dirty. The plugs are probably very worn as well. Sluggishness could indicate a fuel restriciton or a weak fuel pump as well.

My Grand Prix came from SLP that was sent from the factory for the GTX conversion. The GTX has a functional cold air intake molded into the hood with scoops. Air goes to an airbox with a cone style K+N filter. I have never had an issue with the K+N, other than a backfire when I hit a 150HP nitrous shot and ignited the K+N...soooo...this is my second K+N in 15 years..cheers

MACBWT with 267K miles and about$250 in repair bills, you are WAY ahead of us. I also drained 4 quarts of trans fluid and put Lubegard trans fluid in. I think I am going to change out 4 quarts every 25-30K miles. Fluid was little worn that I took out. Definitely very red when I installed Lubegard. My eperience with lubegard from years ago, is that it is a superior product. ....all just a matter of how long you want to keep a vehicle going. Our 1995v Pontiac Transport finally rusted out the subframe connectors at the body. 20 years and 170K miles of wife daily stop and go with kids...cheers

Lubegard additives in power steering. PTU has Royal Purple gear oil and Lubegard gear additive. I added Lubegard to the engine oil. Oil looked fresh on truck purchase. I will change to Royal Purple oil AND RP oil filter. I run Royal Purple in my modified grand Prix GTX. I also use Lucas oil stabilizer.

First thing I ordered for the Edge was a K+N air filter. Really impressive the amount of time and miles you put on your truck so far. I hope the water pump lasts in ours. We bought it about a month ago with 42K miles.

Hey macbwt! Did you put on 275K miles on the same water pump? (the nasty one driven off the timing chain) A lot of miles. Mostly highway miles right?...In any case, you definitely got your moneys' worth! :-)

A nightmare of a topic, and likely and a very possible future event. I am running a larger water pump pulley on my 2000 grand prix 3800 GTX. Car has over 111K miles. Temps are really controlled, due to Royal Purple and Lucas synthetic stabilizer. A Pontiac mechanic told me that he has seen water pumps last well over 200K miles. I am certain that it would be a miserable job having to replace the water pump on a 3.5L Edge. Why not just install performance cams why you are pulling your **** with all the work required?...yeah right..cheers

I was still 16 when I bought my 68 Firebird from a car lot. It had a 2.56 highway gear, a 350 2-brrel carb, and a 2 speed powerglide trans. It was not fast at all. I kept modifiying it , until I bought a rare 421 S.D. engine and a Mickey Thompson cross ram intake manfold. The engine spun a bearing, and I rebuilt it the right way. I put in 455S.D. rods, The engine was bored.120 over. I had the parts balanced, and my brother and i put the short block together wiht a deep oil pan and mallory unilite ignition. I ran a 456 gear and a turbo 400. I never lost a race on the street. Motorcycle or car....The car took almost 5 year to put together, due to money and work involved. Drove it on the street in the summer only. No windshield wpers or heater, No fenderwells...Very reliable above 45 degrees. No chokes :-)
