  1. Thanks for the reply. I read somewhere that the regular Lats are made of a harder rubber compound and might reduce handling and braking performance. What kind of driving do you do, agressive, sporting, passive? Did you feel a difference in those areas? How are they in the rain? I already "pulled the trigger" and ordered the HP's from Tire Rack, but if they feel the same, maybe I will change my order. Thanks again.
  2. Hello again fans, It's time for new tires. Should I stick w/ the current mich... Latitude HP's? I am concidering the regular Latitudes b/c tire rack says they last longer and are a little better on the snow. They cost less too. I have an '08 ltd w/ AWD, 18" ers, w/ 40000 miles. Live in North East USA. Any other tire brands to concider? Looking forward to Forum advice, Thank you.
  3. The wiper blades? I'll try that, need to change them anyway. The steaming idea sounds like it will clean out the ducts, but I don't have a powerful enough unit. I wonder if that would leave puddles in the duct work. Anyway, I drove the car today, the temp is 43 F, and there was no odor or musty smell. Will lysol spray kill mold? Thanks all
  4. Hello Edge fans, I have an '08 limited AWD w/ 40+K miles. Love the car and have owned since new. Recently, a strong smell comes through the vent system when I turn on the heat. It lasts for about 5 minutes, then it clears up. It does not matter if the a/c is on or off. Its hard to describe the odor, but it does not smell like anti-freeze, its sort of a musty dry smell At times its so uncomfortable that I need to open a window. I drive it daily so it can't be from the car not being used enough. All other modes work fine it only happends occasionally when I turn on the heat. Can this be related to the heater core recall? Any one else have/had this problem? Thank you.
  5. Get a good quality windsheild wiper fluid, the deicer kind, keep the tank full. If you have AWD, you shoud be OK. Mine works great on snow w/ the stock 18"tires. Keep a good snow brush and gloves in the car. Raise the wiper blades off the windsheild when parked before it snows, its will extened the life of the blades and prevent them from sticking....
  6. phaggard, Thanks for clearing things up. This is the first car I've owned w/o a direct cable. Don't understand why owners have not complained about this when introduced. I certainly hope its as reliable as a cable and return spring, would hate new system to fail in open position while driving. ...Sanche
  7. Hello, I have an 08 limited w/AWD, 11.5 k miles. At times especially in stop and go traffic, when I need to change a lane, or manuver around someone expediciously, I press the accellerator and the car hesitates for about a second or two before it responds. The engine basically stays at idle during this time, like the system gets confused for a moment, then it takes off. Is the accel pedal to the engine connected by wire, or a direct cable? I have not seen any issues in this forum about this, I wonder if anyone else have noticed this kind of hesitation. It does not do it all the time, just occaionally, in stop/go traffic. Is there a TSB or a fix? Other than that, its a great car, goes very nicely in 6" of snow too. Thanks Much
  8. Hi BBF, About the roof, you're right, it won't heal itself, but I feel alot better about finding the source, and maybe it will help other Edge/MKX owners know where to check. Next time I visit the dealer, I'll ask them to apply whatever TSB fix there is. The memory seats need to be looked at. There's something wrong there. The good news is that it sets correctly w/ the corresponding button. Thanks for the come back, Sanche
  9. Hello, Out of curiosity, I took a second look. There is a plastic frame around the stationary glass, you can see it from inside the car's back seat when the shade is retracted. It looks like its just glued on. I pushed the frame against the glass, plus, there are small foam pieces (4 of them) between the track and the roof, it looks like an after thought  . One of the pieces was out of place. I've been driving the car for (2) 1/2 hr. commutes so far and the noise is gone. Although I got off easy, sometimes it pays to have a look-see on your own before you commit to the dealer. What really bugs me is the memory seat. I followed the instructions exactly and very carefully, But it seems that about every other time I put the key in the ignition, the seat alternates positions. It sets automatically to pos. 1, fine, then the next time I put the key in, it goes to position 2 .Am I doing something wrong? I usually unlock the car w/ my key fob, my wife has the other, but rarely uses it.
  10. Hello, My '08 AWD Limited w/7200 mi. has just developed a slight rattle. I think it has something to do w/ the sunroof. With the glass closed and the shade 1/3 open, I can hear the noise on slightly rough roads. If the shade is all the way open, theres no rattle. If shade is closed, theres no rattle. I casually looked around the sunroof, but found nothing obvious to me. I read other posts about loose or unglued trim, but it does not explain where these parts are located. I hate to take the car to the dealer and lose a day, if Its simple enough to fix at home. Anyone out there have this problem? How was it fixed ? Otherwise, rest of car is tight so far. Thanks All
  11. Jaak, Looks good and tastefully done. I would like to do this only around the shifter and power port. The steering wheel is a nice touch too. Are these covers replacement parts? If not, are they removable w/o damage to the original trim? I'm asking just in case the next owner wants the "stock" look. Thanks Much, Sanche
  12. Lex says power comes from monochromatic mirror hook-up, want to know if they stay on during day , don't care about dimming.
  13. Hi Lex, Great write-up, seems like once you get your teeth into a project, it gets solved. When I ever get a change, I'll pull mine apart and do the fix. Also while I'm at it, I would like to get rid of the hood prop rod and replace w/ air springs. They sould have done this w/ all the top line sel+ and limiteds I'm not sure but I think the MKX's have them? Oh, a question on you BAMR hook-up, do the LED's turn off when the exterior lights go out?? Or are they always on when when driving? Thanks again, Sanche
  14. Hi Lex, OK, The last thought I have is to try GROUNDING the pins we think are golden. Perhaps when the M/B is plugged in. the voltage is there, just needs ground. If that does not work, I'll have to work with this myself on my Edge. I don't want to make any further suggestions to cause you to blow the board. I guess as a last resort, I can check w/ the dealer and order the $55 harness, but damn,we're soooo close Lots of good solid investigation on your part so far, it's much apprieciated by all I'm sure, Thanks so much. I'll see what I can do. - Sanche
  15. No problem, don't take everything apart if you're uncomfortable. As far as the meter, the red lead is positive and black is standard negitive (-), usually the red lead plugs into different ranges for amps, resistance, volts (ac or dc). my meter has a rotary switch to set all the ranges. To check continuity is simple, set to ohms (resistance) scale 0-100 ohms for example(the value at this scale does not matter, you just want to know if the needle swings or readout is at or close to zero). If it does not swing its an open circuit. So if you touch solder pin #2 w/ one lead and the second top pin, top row on the gray receptical w/the other, if no swing, then the 2 pins are not electrically connected. Sanche
  16. Thanks for the pictures, its the next best thing to being there. I'm studying them and looking at the patterns (pin locations) of the m/b receptical/WPT-287 conn./production connector relative to the alignment key on all three. I think the answer to # 2 question requires a test light (probe) or better yet a voltmeter. Ground one side of the meter(test light) and check each connector socket for voltage, with the ignition key on of course I think you should see battery voltage, but to be sure, I would use a voltmeter. If it's other that 12v, problem may be a little more difficult to solve. You can then try finding which is live in accessory position as well, then you will have a voltage source to tap into and may also be the accessory lead your looking for. For the #1 question, my guess at this point is the second pin from the left, top row in the picture showing the gray socket attached to the mother board. But before you try to light them up, PLEASE see if you can get continuity between the solder pin marked #2 and the LED's. If you do, the next thing to check is solder pin #2 to the pin I described in gray receptical. Can you post a couple more pics that show the M/B solder pin #s and gray socket, like Jpark's pic, but one that shows the side w/ the gray receptical. I'll check in later, thanks much, Sanche
  17. My Edge has tire pressure sensors. Can the display on the message center be turned off after I change wheels? Sanche
  18. Lex, Thanks for posting the pics, I have not had a chance to take my switch apart yet. I can see that there are solder pins #'d 1 - 7 and 8 - 14. I could be wrong, but I think Jpark is refering to pins 1 and 2 in the first row. Can you please post a picture of the mating connector (or harness) coming from the roof to the switch. I want to see if there are contacts on the harness side for pins 1 and 2. If not, you need a test light to find out which is the hot socket (ign. sw.on) and mark it. Using an ohmeter (ground yourself first), see if its possible to get continuity from pin-1 or 2 TO one side of each LED. If so, reconnect pc board( w/o switch cover) to the harness connector and apply 12v to pin 1 and or pin 2 from the source you marked on the roof harness side, if they light, we're golden. Why is there a piece of tape over the LED on one of your pics? Thanks, Sanche
  19. Lex, After reading Jparks post more carefully, It tells you pins #1 and #2 will light the LED's. Curious to find out why poster did not follow thru. Sanche
  20. Yep, thats it. It may be possible that the manufacturer's name and part-number is on the connector (molex,Panduit,Amp ...). If we can identify the connector, the mating side can be identified. Then its possible to get samples to try this. Otherwse, will have to trace the appropriate circuit(s) and apply dedicated voltage as the poster recommends. Lex, great detective work, if you can identify this connector, let me know and I can find the mating side and send to you, but I think there must be an isolated circuit on the pc board that can be tapped into. Oh-boy whata find :happy feet: Sanche
  21. Attached is a pix of the switch un-assembled. I took this from another forum. The forum member claimed its from an '07 edge and all the hardware is there, just need to apply 12v and lights go on. I think the lincoln version is the same, but for some reason they omit (1) wire to power it on the edge. I will look for the post were this pix came from on the other forum. It had all the details, but I never followed up. Sanche
  22. Hello everybody, I remember reading a post about the BAMR control panel having built-in lighting, but on the ford edge, they are strangly not hooked up, The lincoln version is. Can you let a fellow '08 AWD Limited owner know if its worthwhile wiring them up and how to do it? Its easy to get distracted looking for the right buttons at night. Other then that, love my car, and getting 22 MPG combined (5500 miles on it). Thanks Much, great forum ! Sanche
