  1. RIGHT ON FORD! I've been waiting for this iPhone support for quite awhile, and it's finally happened.

Good support not only happens with the hardware of a vehicle, but the software as well!

I understand that technology, specifically hardware, becomes less capable of performing all the latest "bells and whistles". As new features become available newer and other platforms, it's nice to see a vehicle manufacturer like Ford continue support of the outgoing SYNC system.

It'll make a difference for me when considering the purchase of a new vehicle one day.

Satisfied customers are return customers... FORD! Keep me from buying GM ever again!

  2. Your 2013 Edge SEL... how many thousand miles or kilometres?

When I test drove mine, it had a bit less than 50,000 km's on it, and from the very first outing the door ajar began. Thought it was my imagination at first. At first it occurred very rarely until a couple thousand below 60,000 km's. Eventually it occurred so much even while driving being set off that it was driving me nuts.

I had to select OK to clear the instrument panel and view the tachometer and petrol gauge. It really was only ever the driver door that caused issue.

Now, I must correct myself. Earlier I posted that the dealership had replaced the switches under the 60,000 warranty. Upon further, um... investigation, the switches were NEVER replaced. ONLY a cleaning ever took place. Clean the contacts, clean the spring, clean the whatever. Bolted back up, and I was on my merry way. That lasted just enough to clear the 60,000, and oh, up until about 65,000. Then it began to creep back in again. This time the ajar warning was mixed with the SERVICE ADVANCE TRAC soon amber, yellow warning patch and lower right red illuminated graphic.

I brought my Edge in. This time the switch(s) in the door latches and the gear selector in the console was replaced. This seems to have solved the problems for now.

My guess it will be BACK again. Maybe in another 50,000 km's or so.

    UPDATE:

The transmission and engine seem to be solid still. Should I hold my breath? lol

  3. Installed the 18" black steels from Canadian Tire with Motomaster Total Terrain W/T onto my 2013 last Friday. Snow's almost here folks! I haven't driven with them in all out drifts yet, but damn they make more noise than the OEM tyres.

Offset "visually" looks good, "maybe" a wee bit in more than the OEM alloys, but only barely if so. Turned in a tight circle and observed absence of any scrubbing on my installed splash guards, fender skirts, etc.

Also picked up the ONLY set of wheel covers at 18" size that CTC offers, faux carbon fibre style. . My son tells me the Edge looks "mean" now and not like a gramps vehicle.

  4. I have the 2013 SEL Edge. According to the parts "dude" at the CTC counter and entering info ONLINE at the CTC website, these rims are to fit the 2013. They look like they will.

I completed a look up on the CTC website for the 2015 Edge and they DO NOT list the steels when presented with the various models.

Maybe the offset or something has changed for the 2015 perhaps?

THEY BETTER fit mine though!!!! I haven't tried them yet. I'll bolt them on tomorrow and get back on here with the details. If all is good, I'll also post the part number listed on the receipt.

  5. OK, so the quick story goes like this.

My Edge was in before the 60,000 KMs for the door ajar. They had me believe they changed the switches at that time, but only "cleaned" things as per Fords direction, protocol to follow. That's fine Solved the problem for a month or so. Just long enough to have me clear the 60,000. In this time Advance Trac Service begins illuminating occasionally. Apparently there is a TSB on this, checking on this site.

So I bring it in, I have purchased warranty up to 200,000 KMs, the top that FORD offers through dealership before the 60 expired.

So, andyhow, I bring the vehicle in, the new switch for drivers door is installed and it's fixed and they tell me they replaced the switch in the gear selector console. That warning is gone now too.

Charged me $113 including tax for this. BUT, if they didn't repair the door ajar correctly/completely before the warranty expired. AND there is a TSB on the Trac Service warning, then why should I pay for the deductible.

Any Ford Reps on here have an answer?

I paid but I'm VERY skeptical of things and this vehicle now. I play by their warranty requirements to a T. The dealership changes my oil, filter etc every service interval. Cabin filter, air filter too. I'd rather be doing things myself to tell you the truth... and I can too. Probably MUCH more "attentive" to details than their rushed systems and mechanics at the quick lube.

    But anyhow...

hope some Rep rings in here.

  6. Holding my breath currently with my 2013 SEL FWD with the issues that seem to be mounting on a weekly basis.

I'm not being pessimistic, I really enjoy this vehicle immensely, but I'll wait and see what tomorrow brings when I'm in at the dealership to discuss the current warning lights that are being presented to me.

I'll check back in on this Forum with the details IF things don't go the way I hope.

  7. Well while it was in for door ajar latch/switches, they replaced the filler neck. It looks like some sort of new slightly concave flapper now all shiny and new.

Anyhow, I've been through a number of fill ups now, and it still seems to behave the same way. The tank once never filled up completely according to the on dash digital gauge. Usually it is immediately filled at the Full line, but after a few kilometres moves below full. Guess I'll have to live with this idiosyncrasy (or normal behaviour). The "free" warranty is up and I don't believe this is covered under the extended. But I believe "other" emissions components that may be affected with time would be...

    But that's another EDGE story.

  8. And besides... it's not Christmas any longer... the new "EDGE" has worn off... the wrapping (covers) have been removed... what surprises will this vehicle now throw at me! lol

  9. LMAO. Had an uninitiated person ask me if my Edge had a diesel upgrade.

Reminds me how I fooled more than a few when I applied the 4.3 Fuel Injected indicia from my Chev S-10 on the back trunk lid of my Ford Focus. At a petrol fill up, had a guy ask me if I was running a turbo model! LMAO

Yup. Noise suppression down, laughs up!

  10. Take a pot of peanut butter, mash in a full bar of EXLAX and leave it away from your vehicle as a lure. Varmints will crap themselves to death. LOL Worked great when a bear tore into our tent while on a fishing trip. He never came back to the area years after.

  11. Mine in now in for Door Ajar switches under warranty. From all the posts, I don't expect this to last my ride too much longer. When I had my Focus, it also suffered the same thing ailment. Ford is therefore using similar/same modules across lines. Weak design.

On the Focus I simply took the dome lights out. PIA but it was enough to have only a light on the dash illuminated. In the Edge though, it interrupts cell conversations and music via Sync. Grrrr!

To those posting to use WD-40, and those engineers that cut the unit open. What do you think about a good accurately sprayed quality electrical contact cleaner? The contact wasn't carbonized or burnt. Has anyone tried this?

Thanks for the write up. This is more of what we need to be sharing as a community...

Ding-Dong Ding-Dong the Door Ajar Witch is dead!

  12. I concur with letting the engine run naked in the summer months (cooler - it's not a diesel) and replacing it for winder months to allow the engine to heat up a bit quicker and retain it's heat and possibly also protect the various top end components like fuel rails, coil packs from sand and salt.

OR run naked all the time and make the foam into a really great stool seat in your garage.

    Just my thoughts

  13. Yup to all above. '13 is currently in for booster replacement.

    Symptoms are:

    1) Brake pedal is stiff initially on start up, with one or maybe 2 depresses of the pedal. Down then release up. Consecutive depresses are spongy in feel and pedal can be pressed, what seems like, to the floor.

    2) On consecutive application of the pedal down and up you probably will hear what sounds like a respirator in a hospital environment breathing. The sound emanates from the engine compartment directly in front of the driver, or even under the dash at the drivers feet. Ambient noise should be at a minimum. It is easiest to observe these characteristics when the vehicle is in PARK.

Tranny problem? Might have suspected with the 6 speed and it's constant searching. We'll see...

Now for those PESKY door ajar switches! DING-DONG... DING-DONG the witch is dead!

  14. It's currently in for a few items, one being replacement of the filler neck.

I've clocked many k's the last couple of weeks and filling the tank has become hugely unpredictable. I've not wantied to overfill and dump raw fuel into the charcoal can (an expensive proposition). Pretty much any pump I've used doesn't seem to fill the tank, leaving the fuel gauge always reading less than full. Still hear the thump-thump sloshing sound from back under the rear seats too.

Pick up the vehicle later, I'll post what I observe over the next few days for improvements.

    Thanks to all for input.

  15. I can hear you knocking, but you can't come in.

OK, so I've an appointment with the dealership next Tuesday for AGAIN the driver door ajar warning sensor/switch. They fixed it once and it's back again. Drives me nuts... it can't be ignored! It'll ding-ding with every slow/stop that I come to.

With the factory 60 k almost up in 10 days I'm having this done AND I'm going to have them look over the filler breather/vent tube for the petrol fill. Thunk-thunk after a fill up.

I tried last fill up and notice I could fill a heck of a lot additional fuel and it never over flowed. I also notice that the fuel gauge registered higher on the console display. Usually I've been not pushing the "extra" petrol into the tank after the first click stop of the pump at the station.

So, I'm wondering is there anyone out there that has had their Edge looked at for this issue?

What exactly was found and the resolve that was implemented?

    Or

    Is this even an issue?

Vehicle runs fine and fuel consumption inline with others at about ~9.5L per 100km's or 29~30 mpg highway and 12~13L or ~22 mpg in town.

Is this something that I could look at for the vent /breather tube? I'm handy and not scared to take things on myself. I simply need to know where I might start looking for "this potential" problem with EVAP?

I recall years ago being told by my mechanic buddy that when filling fuel, "Don't pump and pump to round up the cash value to even it as you risk overflow of raw fuel back to the EVAP canister with the charcoal and that can damage it and it is a costly part to replace."

    Any thoughts anyone?

    Thanks
