  1. Decided to check out the owners manual...I know, shame on me...

    Starting the engine

    1. Turn the key to 3 (on) without turning the key to 4 (start)

    2. Turn the key to 4 (start), then release the key as soon as the engine begins cranking. Your vehicle has a computer assisted cranking system that assists in starting the engine. After releasing the key from 4 (start) position, the engine may continue cranking for up to 10 seconds or until vehicle starts.

So, according to the manual cranking up to 10 seconds is acceptable?

As I mentioned before, mine seems to start ok if I hold the key in the 4 (start) position until it starts. It is when I release the key, as in #2 above and let the CACS do the work that it acts up.

I would not think it is the fuel pump...vehicle runs ok once started. Maybe all of the fuel drains back into the tank and have to wait until it is pump back up to the engine?

Should there any difference in starting the motor using the CACS or turning and holding the key until the motor starts? I have always used the CACS and lately the motor acts like it is flooding or missing when starting. Once it starts everything runs fine.

It seems to start fine when I turn and hold the key until the motor starts.

  3. Have a 2012 3.5 that at times is hard to start. Before I go into detail though, what do you call the feature where you can turn the key, release it and it will continue to start?

  4. It has been a few years since I started this thread... ?

Update...Received the other day another letter from Ford for the $149.00 upgrade...still free shipping. I remembered our discussion here about getting the updates on ebay, decided to check it out further.

I saw where they were selling A10, I was still on A5...decided to make the jump to A10.

One of the vendors mentioned that for A10, you will need the latest Sync software version. So, started the research into what was needed for that. Went to the Ford support website and found there was an upgrade for my 2012. Downloaded that and upgraded to the latest version.

Prices have really gone down. Purchased the A10 for $21.00. Was $26, but the vendor had a $5.00 off coupon. Arrived in the mail yesterday. Installed the SD, started the Edge up and so far seems to work. If I go into the Sync settings, it does show A10.

  5. I bought two A7s on ebay for $50/each and that included......wait or it......free shipping.

LOL...I assume they worked ok? Like everything else...looks like they have gone up in price. $60 (buy now) was the cheapest...plus $2.50 for shipping. $65 with free shipping was next.

i presently have the A5. I would assume the A7 would be a significant upgrade?

    Thanks...

  6. Dropped my 2012 off at the dealer Friday evening for some CPO warranty work and a free oil change.

Just bought the car up back in April of this year. One of the things that had to be fixed was the infamous "Driver Door Ajar" issue. It was fixed, but popped back up a few weeks ago. Also had to have the overhead console sun glass compartment looked at. First day we had the Edge, wife pushed a little to hard on it when closing it.

Suppose to be ready for pick up today.

  7. I kicked it around and finally decided to subscribe. Really enjoy picking up news channels such as CNN, FOX, etc. One of my favorite channels is Willie's Roadhouse (old country hits), pop hits from the 50's & 60's, few others. Comedy channels when I'm bored.

My main channel is "Hair Nation", 2nd is Ozzie's Boneyard, followed up by Classic Vinyl and Classic Rewind

  8. See this thread:

Disconnecting the battery will not work. Sometimes it requires a BUNCH of tries to make it work. Does take at least 15 minutes each time of waiting and car power being on to the radio, so leave key in ON (though engine does not need to be running). Remember NOT to be moving the vehicle during these reactivations. Satellite is notorious for not being able to get that initial LOCK, you see the same thing with GPS.

    The basic SiriusXM activation page:

I was driving the first time I tried to do the refresh...was sitting in the driveway the 2nd-4th time. I cancelled the subscription, no need to pay for something until I have time to work on/fix. Will reactivate the subscription and play with some more. Have some warranty items I need to have looked at, so will have the dealer look at if not figured out by then.

  9. Trying to activate sirius on my 2012. Have sent refresh signal 4 different times...called into sirius support and had them refresh and other troubleshooting, but no luck.

I can pick up channel 184, but nothing else works if I go off that channel.

I know sat radio works because it was activated with a trail subscription that expired on 06/20. Decided to go ahead and sign up for it and subscribed several days ago. But can not seem to activate the radio now.

Customer support says they have tried everything they can and says I need to take it back to the dealer to get a "hard reset" or something like that on the radio.

Is that something I can do? Same as disconnecting the battery?

    Thanks...
