Thanks for all of the replies. I have no problem sizing the tire. All of the web sites provide lots of guidance on comparing one tire size to another. It is the rim size that is causing me some grief. I have found nothing on rim sizes and fitment. Costco, in spite of knowing their stuff, provided conflicting guidance on matching 245/65/R17 tires on X42755 rims. One tech said its okay, the other tech said the rim width is too small but did not offer an alternative. I have not been able to find any web site reference that discusses rim sizes and their compatibility with various tire sizes. Virtually every rim I have bought for winter tires starts with an "X" from generic rim manufacturers. Costco quotes these numbers, as well as Canadian Tire, but the web for some reason has no available information on tire compatibility, which is quite strange in this day and age.
From what I have read and what I heard in the responses, the TPMS will remain lit for the whole time I have winter tires installed (if they have no sensors fitted). I am ok with that. I was more concerned about the dealership's claim that it is illegeal to fit tires without TPMS. I have assumed that this is no more than a scare tactic on behalf of the dealership.
Thanks for the feedback.
