  1. Update... My 2008 Limited is back in the shop. It is, in fact, a recurring problem. They originally replaced the axel and DPU seal. Well they are doing it again. Apparently there is no permanent fix for this problem. I don't want to think about how much this repair will cost after the warranty is over. I think I'm getting rid of this, or will lemon law this POS the next time it happens. Also, what the heck is the deal with the 20 inch wheels? Every time I turn slightly at any speed they start creeking like cheap warping plastic wheel covers on BMX bikes. Is it just me, or is the quality of products nowadays nonexistent. This is how automakers are trying to save money. Throw QA out the window. I had a 2001 Pontiac Grand Prix. The ONLY thing it went into the shop for after 85K miles was a faulty catalytic converter, serpentine belt, and brake pads. I'm not doing Ford again.
  2. Update. Apparently they are familiar with the smoking problem. The car spent a day in the shop and fixed the PTU seal leak. So far so good. I will post if this one craps out.
  3. 10-4 on that. My "leaker" spent a day in the shop. They replaced the PTU seal and drive shaft. So far so good. I asked if this would be a recurring problem and they stated that it would not. (knock on wood) Time will tell. Other than that, I experienced excellent service at the dealer.
  4. Purchased my 2008 Edge yesterday, put 40 or 50 miles on it and it started dripping oil from the transfer case onto the exhaust right behind the juction of the Y-pipe and the pipe in front of the catalytic converter. After reading some of the similar complaints I wanted to rule out a transmission fluid leak. This morning I took it for a 20 mile cruise (and anyone suspicious of similar oil smoke problems might want to try this) to get the engine nice and not, pulled into my driveway and the smoke started to billow out. Couldn't see the leak at first, so I slid a a piece of cardboard under it to collect any drips. After about 15 minutes a small dot of fluid had dripped on the cardboard. Upon inspection it appeared dark brown, thick, and really stinky. No mistake about it, its gear box oil. Automatic Transmission Fluid (ATF) is red. The 5-20W oil in the engine is really thin, and light brown. So unfortunately, I'm in the same boat as you guys. My guess it the PTU seal is (still) defective. WHY IS THIS STILL A PROBLEM!?!?! Fix Or Repair Daily - - so far, its true. I had it for one day and it needs to go back into the shop for God knows how long. Quality Ford Tough? BS! Shoulda bought that Rubicon....
  5. I have a 2008 as of today. After about 50 miles, yes five-zero, the POS started smoking/burning oil. Top of the f'n line loaded edge and its behaving like a 20 y/o junker. Fix Or Repair Daily -- no kidding. I had it one day and it needs to be fixed. What does Ford care about your/my problems? They got your money. DON'T BUY FORD! If I can get out of this I'm heading back to the hills of GM land.
  6. Not 60 miles on my Edge and it is burning oil. Re-freaking-diculous. Hopefully they didn't transfer the title cuz I don't want it. This sounds like a can of worms with the PTU and the engine replacements. Here is a question... why is this STILL a problem in the 2008 models? This is my first Ford experience. Shoulda stuck with GM.
