  1. Ours has never had a problem again since they replaced the liftgate actuator. -S
  2. I have left a message for the service manager to call me to see if he has any news yet...
  3. I supposedly have a set of the new wheels and they click worse than the previous. The local ford factory rep went for a ride to hear it for himself. He said he's never heard of the problem. I sent him for a ride with our sales rep and the service manager, and I gave him a copy of this thread. He heard the clicking. Still waiting to hear as well.
  4. I have all four wheels doing this. Over the last 4 months, they have been replacing 2 at a time to see if the "revised version" that the service manager claims exists do indeed work. They do not, and click worse than the originals. I have left this with the service mgr for a couple days, but he's been told either Ford replaces them with a working version, whether Edge rims or some other 20" from Ford that works, or we want the money back that we paid Ford for the upgraded rims, and we'll go find a 3rd party rim. I'm sick and tired of the clickity clickity every day, and tired of people staring as I drive past.
  5. Have been down this road. Our 2008 Limited started doing the "ding ding ding" when reaching full open on the lift gate during this past winter. Basically what was happening, as I saw it, was that the actuator for the lift gate was trying to drive the lift gate past it's stop. It would actually make the lift gate bounce when it hit the top, and, thinking it hit an obstruction would go "ding ding ding". I can tell you from experience that sometimes it would not only ding 3 times, but sometimes would try to close again after it thought it hit an obstruction - with me still reaching inside. I could see the newspaper article... "Man Eaten by Edge"... Anyways, took it to the dealer. Was definitely worse over the winter. They thought it was weak struts, so they replaced the struts. Still did it. So they ordered updated struts - still did it. I told them again what seemed to be happening was that the actuator wasn't stopping where it should, and no amount of struts is going to fix that. Since the only thing left was the actuator, they replaced it. Bingo, now works as good as the day we bought our Edge. When I watch the new actuator, it stops about an inch before the lift gate reaches the top, and then lets the struts carry it the rest of the way, versus the old actuator, which tried to drive the lift gate right off it's hinges. -S
  6. I'd agree with that. For us, it happens in slow to medium cornering (5 kmh to 30 ish kmh). It also happens when the weight load shifts significantly at each wheel (driving over uneven/ heaved pavement). Also, believe it or not, it also happens when it's parked in the driveway and turned off. Every time there is a sunny day and the sun shines directly on the wheels (keep in mind I'm at 45 deg N Lat) and I'm standing in the driveway doing something, I hear "click....click..click click.." as the sun heats up the plastic wheel covers... - Steve
  7. That's exactly what were we told last time we were in as well. Ford has instructed the dealerships (at least in Canada) not to replace any more of the rims, and that there is a solution being worked on. Our Service Manager was under the impression that this would be solved in the last part of this year. He told me to poke him about it end of October if we hadn't heard anything about it before then, and he would try to find out the current status. Looks like I'll be asking him this week to see if he can find any scoop on this.... We're tired of the loose marbles sound... especially over rough roads... people keep looking at us... -S
  8. Yeah, I've seen it happen four or five times now. Have an apt with the dealer next week. They want me to leave it there parked outside over night, and for me to be there the next morning when they start her up. Oil level is still top of the crosshatch, so it's not burning too much. We'll see what comes out of all of this. At least we have started a history on the issue for the future. - S
  9. Sorry, by normal exhaust colour, I mean the usual steam/moisture you see for the first few seconds after starting the vehicle as the exhaust system warms up - morning temps are getting in the 5-10 C here now.
  10. We started up our 08 Edge after it sat still in the driveway for 2 days, and when I started it, two big clouds of blue smoke came out of both exhausts. The blue smoke came out for about 6 or 7 seconds, and then switched to normal exhaust colour. Anyone else experience this? We only have 13,000+ km on it, so I can't imagine there's a bad valve seal.... Hasn't done it since, but hasn't been unused as long either. I'll mention it next service visit, but you know, if it's not doing it right then and there.... - S
  11. Same sort of deal here. Our front two were making snapping noises everytime you made a turn. Took six weeks to get the replacements. While they had them off, they rotated them. Guess what. I now have two rims on the back that now make clinking/snapping noises when I drive in a straight line. Great... I called the dealership to let them know, and they said they'd get back to me. They haven't called, so I guess I'll have to call them again...
