The adaptive steering is about changing the steering ratio, not effort. To check its operation, my own test, check while parked how many turns the steering wheel takes from lock to lock (extreme left to extreme right, or the other way), with the adaptive steering it is approximately 2 turns. Normal vehicle without adaptive steering require 2.5 to 3 turns.

Sport mode is stiffer then normal though. When it's off yeah the wheel feels like it's very much disengaged. For me it was 3.5 turns and super light feeling (one finger rotation) when it was replaced (wheel) but not programmed.

  2. Man site is loading slow for me tonight, @luxpow it should be free as it's a tsb but I forget which one. Do you have a code atm in your engineering mode? http://www.fordedgeforum.com/topic/21044-adaptive-steering-fault/page-21?do=findComment&comment=169161

To turn the mode off just turn off the car.

Is your adaptive steering now just like full lock steering or does it spin all the way around more then 720 degrees? Mine was safe to drive with and I did for a month as they were getting the part in but some others had it worse where it be very odd angles while going straight.

  3. So do to a rattle in my roof two years ago the dealer (this dealer was horrific and I eventually had to go to another one) took my roof apart to look at some stuff and I won't bore you with the details about it but basically after they had touched my car the sub lvls of the car were all screwed up and they thought nothing was wrong. So my issue now is the perhaps the AMP/DSP in the back of my car is messed up as as far as I can tell as if the crossover of the stock unit is now in the 100's for the sub and the lowest gain setting on the sync 3 audio menu for bass is basically worthless and before the dealer had my car it lived in the middle of the bar (lowest was not punchy at all to off in gain), now even off it thumps like crazy. I now have tools to pop off the plastics and look at things but I was wondering first if I could get some knowledge of what might cause this and if a master reset of the Sync 3 system will touch the audio crossover lvls internally or not.

    Thanks.

  4. Sorry to bump an old thread but I have the stock sony setup with sub and after I got into the vehicle after coming out of the bank today it now beeps on start up like a warning beep then I noticed it all functions but my warnings ect are all in the cluster now and no longer the stock speakers, is this a programming glitch? Basically like this older thread on the fusion forums but I do have the sony radio and something obviously came loose or something. http://fordfusionhybridforum.com/topic/9354-special-service-messages-ssms/?do=findComment&comment=88030

  5. Well coolant was majorly low I noticed today on a maintenance check for the trip down to San Diego. Lasted 25k without needing filling so not bad, also been carrying lots of wood lately (can confirm it will hold a 4x8 above you but you better duck down) and had some windshield damage filled (semi threw a rock going the other way what are the odds) and have yet to paint the gouge in the hood :(. I think the windshield would have been a loss if it did not hit the hood first. At least the Hood Protector is pitted and not my hood front so something went good this month.

  6. I went on trip with the family and they broke my left one and I got it out of the panel and it is obviously just a clip on part, I'm going to ford with it but it sounds like they are going to want to sell me the whole thing which is is insane as its obviously designed to be removable. The numbers off the part bring nothing up but it being a ford trim insignia I guess.

I understand that it's always on when it's enabled, I just notice it most when I'm parking.

I just think that there's a small risk of hitting something if you're maneuvering into a tight parking spot when the adaptive steering fails and you suddenly find yourself back in normal steering mode. I often don't have the luxury of finding a big open parking spot with no obstacles to avoid, so there's usually not much room for error.

Yeah I get you that would suck I can happily say that after my new wheel I have not had one single fault but where I started getting faults was after I went on a 2k mi road trip and that will be again soon so will update if anything happens on that trip.

  8.

That's exactly what it was designed to do - make it easier to steer at slower speeds such as while parking.

I find it also requires more effort to turn the wheel at higher speeds which I like. I find my self over correcting a ton on the Normal mode VS Sport. Coming from a car with a hydraulic rack I feel more in tune with the car in the Sport mode.

@Quila it is always on just different levels of how it changes. It is only off when it fails.

  9. I took the car to ford to diagnose my "could live with it" headliner rattle that has now become way louder even with music blaring, Afraid it might be a weld, they drop my headliner Monday wish me luck. Before that I did get my Areoskin installed though so hopefully no more rock chips on the 2k trip to CO later this year. I think it fits the color well.

  10. Wow, I was looking at $3600 for 125k on my edge as I plan on keeping it till it dies so think Premiumcare is worth the investment (worried about all the computers eating it down the road) and they would only give me 4 years to pick for it. This site says they can sell me a 8yr 150k at my current millage for 3200 (EDIT: found another one for even less). So if you get it it from them it can still be used at any Official Ford dealer correct? I figure they just bought them in bulk and now can resell them for less?

  11. I was getting the adaptive steering fault intermittently at first. It started when the odometer was at about 5600 km. Around the end of May I took it into Ford and they said they'd have to order a replacement part, no ETA. It didn't appear to be affecting steering, so I didn't have to leave the vehicle at the shop. I think adaptive steering was just getting disabled, so normal steering mode was active instead. The warning got progressively more frequent until it would show up as soon as I started the vehicle every single time.

Then I was out of town for a little over three weeks and came home to a dead battery. Since then, I have not had the warning once and adaptive steering seems to be working. I'm still waiting for the replacement part which has apparently now been shipped. I'm hoping they still replace it since I don't think a dead battery is a real solution.

The dead battery most likely caused the module to reset and it will come back when it determines it is still faulty. The part they shipped is a new wheel, but the car should be safe to drive as you have already experienced. If your car though the code that is in this thread and they have already ordered your wheel they will swap it no worries.

  12. Like I said, it's new... Lane Keeping? I know we have the sensors in the side mirrors, but I didn't know we had lane keeping.... We do not have the Adaptive Cruise, which also did the braking, is the lane keeping part of that option we don't have?

On the turn signal stalk do you have a button on the end, and if you press it do you get a car with lines on either side show up in the left side of the Cluster? Also since you are feeling this issue on turns while making a turn that you know it can repeatably be done on and when safe to do so turn on your turn signal in the direction of the turn to disable the system if it is enabled and see if anything changes.

  13. Really? is it how they solve the problem for others here as well? Basically, they confirm it's a hardware issue? not just some software glitch...

It seems to be a over time tolerance issue with the gears inside the wheel itself so they have revised the design internally and also I believe updated some software as well. For some they just got a revised clock spring but and I think they are okay but some came back from that so they went back and just fixed the core issue of the wheel itself I guess.

FYI: My wheel was replaced and is same on the outside but my down arrow on the left side controls is a little finicky while my original wheel was perfect. I was not gonna fight them on this though as the wheel works fine and tracks fine.
