  1. Update :

The issue still persists. It just varies from boot to boot.

Whats even more strange is what I saw today. The exact same contact name is shown properly on the same LCD in one entry but the number is shown instead in another entry !

The 1st & 3rd entry was a incoming call from my wife's cell. Yet, the 1st entry showed her number but the 3rd entry showed her name correctly !

Similarly the 2nd and 4th entries were outgoing calls to my friend. 2nd entry showed his number and 4th entry showed his name.

Went to my office and came back in the car after an hour and now all contact names show perfectly OK.

Might be something to do with "phonebook auto download" setting being on. Issue is not annoying enough for me to chase it down right away but I will experiment with that setting next.

  2. So I havent seen the complete light out issue again yet BUT I have seen the speedometer light dim at different times.

And it seems to be "feature" rather than a "bug".

    1) It seems to be bright when its bright outside and dim otherwise.

    2) It also seems dim when the car headlights are in "off position" but brighten up when I turn the knob to any other position.

Item #2 is normal behavior I guess but #1 is interesting and I dont recall seeing that feature/issue in any other car.

Maybe its part of the "auto-dimming rear view mirror" feature ?

  3. maybe you passed under the bridge and auto lights turned on, while interior lights dimmed?

    it's happened to me...

Thats what I initially thought but my headlights were in "off" position not the "auto" one.

Still, it could be something to do with lighting conditions maybe afterall. It seems ....

The lights went out when we went from shade to direct bright sunlight. And the lights came back when some trees put us back in shade.

I will see if I can create that situation again.

  4. I'd report it to the dealer and let them handle it. That would be warranty work. Now, of course, getting it to repeat that for them is another story. But at least it will be documented.

My dealer doesnt have many good reviews for service or repairs etc. They are good for selling but not so much for handling the guts of a car.

I guess I will wait as much as I can and fix as many things as I can myself before I put faith in someone for whom my car is just another piece of oil and metal :-)

  5. luxpow,

Thanks for the update. Would you happen to have an alternate phone to see if you experience the same issue?

    Shaay

Before I could try the things you suggested like deleting phone book and re loading it etc., it seemed to start working fine itself yesterday.

I am not really sure if it fixed 'itself'. I did rename some of the contacts on my phone.

So at this point things are too complex for me to phrase the issue properly. I will keep a watch and report back when things are consistent.

BTW, now that I have your attention, let me ask 2 off-topic questions if I may :

    1. Any news/rumors if sync connect (cellular modem) will be made available for 2016 Edge as an HW+SW plug in ?

    2. Are we right in assuming 2016 Edge comes with 5 years of sirius travel-link (traffic, weather info etc.) ?

  6. Hi luxpow,

Have you tried deleting your phonebook from SYNC and downloading it again: https://owner.ford.com/how-tos/sync-technology/sync-3/phone/how-to-manage-your-phonebook-with-sync-3.html Get back to me when you get the chance.

    Shaay

    Thaks for replying Shaay !

I had tried a master reset which didnt help. I will try just the phonebook delete but I doubt it would be any more effective than master reset.

Anyways, as I mentioned earlier, the same contacts do show up correctly in the main display but just not in display on the right of the speedometer.

BTW, the link you sent doesnt work.

  7. Still not clear as to the effectiveness of TSB 16-0080 for build dates prior to Feb 12 2016. My build date is Feb 2, and the seat backs do not cool as they should.

If the fix doesn't work and if builds after Feb 12 have the same problem I'd be reluctant to take my vehicle to let the "crew" at my local Ford dealer tear into it.

I'd be more concerned about rattles and damage to the leather from getting a fix that isn't a fix.

So does the fix resolve the issue?

My Edge was built 17 May 2016 and I can confirm the back seats do not cool.

  8. Bought a new 2016 edge Titanium but cant locate info on subscription duration for Sirius etc.

Is my understanding correct that Sirius XM radio will stop working after 6 months.

But the traffic info etc. (travel link ?) will keep running for 5 years ?

Sorry if this has been answered already somewhere.

  9. Received my Edge finally

  10. Yeah thats what I am saying. Phones will get the wifi option definitely. If not via a software update in out current phone then in a new phone altogether.

It is easier to buy a new phone than a new Car.

So the question is whether Sync 3 equipped Ford Edges will ever support wifi carplay/android-auto via a SW update only.

And I think its too early to ask as since we dont even have the USB flavor yet.

Atleast the following article suggests it should be a simple SW update but only Ford can confirm how true it is for Sync 3 on the Edge.

  11. I have been following the forum for a few months as I prepped to order my 2016 Edge, and now I am also playing the waiting game. I ordered a 2016 Titanium EcoBoost, 301A in Too Good To Be Blue. Every time I reached out to Ford Service, I keep getting the "Your Edge is in the order processing stage, no build date yet, please check back next week..." Granted, I only ordered in the first week of May, but I am getting antsy. As such, I have a friend with friends at Ford, and was told a bit more information that may be affecting other orders as well. They are expecting a 10 to 12 week run time, since there is a possible delay on Titanium and Sync orders, meaning they didnt plan on so many Titanium or Sync ordered vehicles. Supposedly the plant is running double shifts to address the back order.

Not what I wanted to hear, since I already sold my previous vehicle - but luckilly we have a spare.

I share that feeling. I hope Ford takes note that dealer lots dont have the cars people want to buy. I know its the dealers fault who order cars with the poorest tech package (301A) and spend the money instead on crap like bigger wheels, cold weather package(even in California), tow package etc. Plus all the colors worth looking at are extra cost.

Even if it is dealers fault, I am sure Ford looses the bigger dollar. They need to do better data mining on what people configure on their sites via the "build and price" tool. And that data needs to be thrust down the dealers throat till they get it.
