  1. Or with the right insurance plan - you call the window replacer people and they pay most of your deductible for a new windshield... then it is new and polished. :)

I am hoping the angle on this windshield is better than the truck's.

Just curious, you make a comment about the windshields on the trucks. We have two F350 trucks that we seem to have the same thing happening with. We also have an Expedition that does have the same problem, although I have changed out the wiper blades from ford to Bosch, and am wondering if this has made a difference. I think I probably will have the wiper blades changed out on the Edge once the windshield is better. We do have good insurance but I don't think it is bad enough yet to get a replacement, especially since it was changed one time before for a deep scratch. That's why I feel it may be the wiper arms that are doing it.

    Thanks, Cindy

  2. Hi Cindy,

Your windshield can most certainly be polished. If you have a local professional detailer in your area, they should have a polish made specifically made for glass. Your detailer will need this particular polish along with glass polishing pad. The difference between an older scratched windshield and a freshly polished one is incredible. :)

Thank you, I think I probably will do this, I certainly don't want a mess by trying this ourselves.

  3. I have noticed for the second time a etched or scratched mark on my 2008 Limited Edge. The first time the dealership replaced the windshield because if was visually scratched from the wiper blade and it was still the original blade. This time I have noticed another mark on the windshield not quite as deep as the other time. When looking at the wiper blade, it looks like it should not be scratching. The rubber part is clearly in the blade holder with no metal part touching the windshield. I am not sure what to do now, unless I take it to a glass place and see if they can buff it out. Has anyone else had this problem with the factory wiper blades? I am close to changing them to another kind. My warranty is up this December but I doubt that they would replace the windshield a second time.

    Help anyone.

Sorry I finally got a chance to get on this and add what I found out on the sunroof. I took it to the dealer and they had to take the headliner and glass out. When I went in, the sun shield was also acting up and when you tried to open it, it got really jerky. They took everything out and on the repair sheet, they said they replaced a certain part but didn't reference what it was. Put everything back, greased the tracks and also initialized it. Not sure just initialization would have taken care of the problem. Since it was still under warranty, I figured I would let them repair it. If it were to happen again out of warranty, I will certainly try the initialization instruction on this topic. I have to add though that my sunroof had been getting slower and slower at the final closing so I think it was a problem that had been going on for a time and just finally got much worse. It closes now like it did when it was new. I have a 2008 Edge Limited.

    Thanks everybody for your help.

  5. so its heating up here in so. cal, and noticed with the fan selector on number 4 it just seems so weak, compared to any other car i have, takes so long to cool down and doesn't even move my wifes hair, took it to dealership and they said its normal, they been getting tons of complaints but thats just the way it is.

    my two questions are

    is this normal?

    and

is there anything i can do?

    its a 2009 edge sel

I don't know anything about the 2009 but I have a 2008 edge and I notice the air flow is really bad too. I usually end up running my on full fan. I do notice that if you change on the selector to dash board only or feet only it works better, but when you have it on both it just doesn't do much. I thought they had changed that for 2009 because they had so many complaint about it in the 2007 and 2008, obviously they didn't. I have also read in posts that if you aren't using a certain vent to close it and it might help the air flow, I haven't really tried that yet.

  6. Please keep us up to date ....... :yup:

I will and also in looking through the forum I found some good information regarding initialization of the roof. I printed it off but just in case I have a problem I would like to see it fixed before the warranty is up, but the step by step instructions sound very informative. I found them under searching Vista Roof Problems. I'll post back to this after I have a solution.

  7. I just started having the same problem with my roof. I have a 2008 Edge with the warranty up in December. I close it and it too stops about that far from closing and then it jumps back about an inch on its own. Each time I push it and hold the button to close the final time, it goes so far and jumps back. I have been noticing that it has seemed to close slower than it was. I called the dealer this morning and am taking it in tomorrow. He told me that lots of times they just need to be sincronized again so we will see. Up until now I have had no problems with it and have had it almost 3 years. Hopefully they will fix it.

  8. Hi i dont know if anybody even cares anymore but i was looking for something like that and found a solution.

it is possible to get a packed file in the world wide web if you look around a little ;)

than you only have to burn it on a dual layer DVD and you have the new maps

Yes, I am still interested as I just got another flyer in the mail saying they have out a new DVD. I am not sure I quite understand your message though. What does packed file in the world wide web mean? Very curious as to how to acquire the new DVD as I am not planning on spending the money that they say they cost.

    Thanks for your info.

  9. I have an 08 Limited and it has the back up sensors. I do really like them but you still have to be careful. A camera would have been great but wasn't offered.

Edge shopper question. I've been looking at an '08 or 09 SEL Edge. To the owners of the Edge with back-up sensors, do you like them? All 08 I've looked at doesn't have that option.
  10. I am going off the computer. I do change it everytime I fill it up. I have also heard that you should reset it everytime you drive but I haven't done that. If I have been on a long drive I would prefer to see it start out high mileage rather than start out low and stay there, just a way of not letting it bother me as much.

Are you hand calculating the MPG or going off the computer? Reset the MPG meter every time you fill up. I can't get my Edge below 17mpg and I drive it very rough.
  11. No problem. I did notice in another post here that they are talking about putting Ethanol in the fuel in California. We already have that here in Oregon and have ever since I have had the Edge. I wonder if that could be part of it. I am going into the dealership tomorrow for a couple of things. Would it be worth it to mention the gas mileage or do you think they will just tell me it isn't broke in. I have about 7200 miles on it now. I would love to figure out how to get better mileage. I do get better when I am driving on the freeway for some time such as to the dealership which is about 25 miles from my home. Thanks for any imput from anyone.

Hi Cindy. :D I think I may have confused you there.

Did you think I was calling you "#6" (by the post # of your first reply)? That is not what I was doing. I was asking "legallyyours" what his answer was to tip #6 in the set of 8 tips I listed in my first reply.

That tip (#6) asked "Do you normally drive with your HVAC controls set to "AUTO", "Defrost' or "AC"? If you do, it is the equivalent of driving with your Air Conditioning on all of the time. If possible, just use the vent settings with the fan."

I would never be so rude as to call you or anyone else by their post number.

Hope that clears up any confusion.

    Good luck. :beerchug:

  12. This is the answer from #6. No I don't use the auto because I had read in another thread that that does cause the mileage to go down. I realistically only have about 7500 miles on it. Is is possible that it isn't broke in? Would love to find out what I could do to up the mileage. Otherwise I love the vehicle.

    Thanks

Hi legally yours. :D You are welcome.

I was just curious: What about #6? Do you regularly drive with your HVAC controls set to "AUTO', "AC" or "Defrost"? Having the A/C system engaged on a continuous basis will create a significant parasitic MPG loss.

    Good luck. :beerchug:

  13. I have a 2008 Limited Edge and have been disappointed with the gas mileage. It sounds like your driving is similar to mine. I only drive about 4 miles to work and usually my errands are not a lot more. My mileage seems to stay around 12-13 with that driving. However, when I have driven further such as to McMinnville or Salem, I have gotten up to 24 miles to the gallon. I have just figured that I am probably killing my gas mileage with my short driving. That's the only thing I am disappointed with in the Edge. We bought it to replace a gas guzzling Expedition. I am sorry to say thought, it only get probably 3 to 4 miles a gallon more than the Expedition on the short drives. Good luck and if you hear anything that helps, I would love to hear about it.

Thanks for the information. Tires are great, almost new and we have a compressor and gauge. That was the first thing we checked. I am a very safe and sane driver, so my driving is not an issue at all. The sales person told us to expect about 18 MPH locally, so the mileage is not that off if that is an accurate number. We live in the Pacific NW, so temp. isn't an issue, either. I will keep researching, but this gives me a good start to make sure I've covered the basics. I see the new Edges are coming out with some improvements in these areas, I will be curious to see how the mileage is affected. I expected to get a lot worse mileage than the supercharged 4cly. Mercedes, but I wasn't expecting the same miserable mileage my husband's Jeep Liberty was getting. He improved his mileage over 2 mpg when he replaced his air filter set up with a cone unit, but he doesn't think it's worth it for my Edge because I mostly drive local, short distances every day. I was just suprised to see the mileage wasn't much better when we took it out for a long Sunday drive on the highways.
  14. I use the 5 Star Microfibre Cleaning Cloth that came with my 22" Samsung LCD monitor or Mircrofibre cloth

    cddvd_cloth2.jpg

Or I bought this product for my Ipod touch and my wife and my cellphones it called Invisible shield invisibleshield I might email them and see what they have for our ford nav's

My son has one of the invisible shields on his Iphone. Will you let us know how it works, I was thinking the same thing might work. I too have a small reading glass cleaner and a microfiber cloth that I clean mine off with too. It just doesn't last long enough so maybe the invisible shield might work. Hopefully it is the answer. Thanks

  15. I have a black edge and used the THX was on it. When wiping it off with micro fiber towels, it looked streaky. After waxing it we had to use a spray detailer to get it to look better. Is it harder to use on black or did I leave it on too long? I have read that this is the best wax and actually asked at a car show and that's what they told me. I not sure I want to use it again and it really turned out to be a lot of work. We live on a well but we bought one of those filters just for washing cars. Before getting the filter, you couldn't dry the car off fast enough to prevent spots. Fortunately I have always used the filter on the Edge.

    Thanks for the hints.

Sorry I always forget to proof and end up with messed up words. Of course I meant wax, not was.

  16. You might want to try the NXT wax from Meguiar’s. Just don't put it on to thick. Keep it nice and thin, it will come off really easy.

  17. No I haven't checked with anyone yet. I just noticed it last night but probably will go talk to a glass place. Just wanted to see if there was something else I could try first. Thanks

Have you checked with someone that repairs stone damage to windshields? Based on what I have heard, a replaced windshield is never as safe as the original, so fixing it would probobly be best if it can be done.
  18. Would appreciate anybody's help on this one. Last night I was washing my 08 Limited Edge when I noticed what I thought was just a streak on the windshield. In looking closer it appears to be a scratch but not a deep one. We looked at the wiper blade and the rubber had come out at the tip of the blade and the metal was hitting the windshield. I would like to try buffing it out myself but wasn't sure what to use. I know from looking on the internet that if it is deep enough to put your fingernail in, it's too deep to buff and would have to be replaced. I dont' think it was doing it too long, but it doesn't appear to be that deep.

This forum is so great for information that I decided to turn to all of you for help.

    Thanks

  19. ALWAYS test an inconspicuous area first. As long as your Edge is THOROUGHLY cleaned and clay bar'd immediately afterwards (per the directions, of course), you should be ok. You sure there's no WalMart in Oregon?

No we do have a Walmart, I didn't know that is who you were referring to as Wally World. I'll try that, thanks.

  20. Oh yeah, about the clay bar....If it's been a month or 3 since your last wax, wash your Edge with some Dawn Ultra dishoap. This will remove any wax you have left behind. then you use a clay bar kit (for about 15 bucks) and follow the directions. Easy to do, just time consuming. It'll remove paint contaminants caught in the clear coat. THEN you wax it. You're "suppose" to use a polish in between the clay and wax, but newer cars usually don't require this.

Sounds like a job. Do you think this would create a lot of swirl marks in the black paint? I didn't know if you would still use the clay bar on a car that new, but if it works that good, I'll try it. Thanks

  21. GOO GONE XTREME

Find it in the paint section at Wally World. It's a liquid. I swear by it. It'll even take off old sap that has hardened. People ask me to buff off scuff marks and little do they know, a few wipes with this stuff on a microfiber rag and it's gone. :yup:

Thanks. I have regular Goo Gone that is a yellow liquid. Is that the same thing? We don't have a Wally World in Oregon that I know off. I suppose I could just google it. I don't want to use the regular Goo Gone if it isn't the same thing.

  22. A little Zymol and some chrome polish and viola!! 2 1/2 years later, it still looks good. I wax it frequently with tech 2.0, but thought I'd give this a whirl. After I finished with the clay bar, I applied the Zymol and was impressed. Sorry for the blurryness.

I have a question for anyone. I have an 08 Black Edge, possibly the last black vehicle I will own. I have used the Tech 2.0 was on it too and love how it looks. After a hard winter I have noticed some roughness along the lower sides, I assume could be tar or road grime. It didn't come off when I washed it and it's too cold to wax where I live yet. Any suggestions on what I should use to clean it. I have heard of the clay bar but know nothing of how it works or what it does. I just don't want to scratch the paint, which is almost impossible even in drying the car. Thanks for the info.

  23. Independent body shops are very good, but keep in mind that most Ford Dealers uses them as well, Ford do not have any body shop as such, at least not in my area, that I know of, all thye do here, is using independent ones that offer good service to keep their reputation up...

I received a couple fo dents the other day, on the driver doors, courtesy of a Diner parking lot, the guy hit me and run, I was inside eating, unfortunatelly for him two old ladies that were sitting in their car in the parking lot, one of the them a widow of a police officer, took his plate number...Now doing the tedious job that follows the damage, i ahve learned a lot about those issues the hard way...

    A few remarks:

Keep your deductible in the minimum, pay for the rent a car service, never park a car while you do not see it, and try to use the parking spots at the ends, usually the ones at the passenger side, that will minimize the hit of doors opening besides you, park as far as you cna, people is lazy and laways try to park close to the place they will go into, leaving the parking spots that are far away empty...

I with you on this one. I always park away from other cars. I also have a 1998 Expedition and have done this with it since I have had it. The only dent it had was at the dearlership getting service but I couldn't prove it but it was able to be taken out by those dent remover people (Press A Dent). I now have a black Edge and am very careful where I put it too. On the car wash thing, I would never think of going through those car washes, I think you're just asking for trouble. I 'll drive a dirty car first.

  24. for $50, I would do it for sure.

you can read all about it at http://www.syncmyride.com - I plan to do it, a few here have, many have over at the link I posted here

this link will drop you right into the most popular thread there on this very topic

Thanks for the info on the upgrade. I didn't really get much from the service manager when I was in there about how it worked. Is there a separate charge for it besides your cell phone? That question is probably answered by looking at the website you said. I will do some research on it but from what I read what people are saying on this blog, I probably will upgrade to it.
