  1. My Ultimate Performance intercooler with the Garrett core #002 for the G2 Edge Sport 2.7L EcoBoost just arrived !!! :happy feet: :happy feet: . The welds and workmanship are great and with almost 70% more area than the stock IC it should work as good as it looks. :2thumbs: Big thanks to snmjim and Special_K for making this happen  . They have #001

    You can get yours here:

Do you have a way of doing some performance tests with before and after intercooler? I really am thinking about one, but I need to see some substantial gains in power. I know you're not much of a 1/4 mile guy, but maybe make some 0-60 or 0-80 pulls before and after and post what kind of results you see. All I see so far is people talking about temperature differences, which of course equates to more power, but i'm looking for real numbers, not temps.

hopefully you can do this before you strap on those oversize hairdryers you bought!

Using the weight / time = Hp calculator, 037 made 437hp on a 100 octane race tune to do that 12.744 @ 108 . I calculated that hp# using 4400lbs for the car and 200lbs for 037. And that is a stock car with just a tune. Now add big Turbos a new intercooler, RMM and cold side pipe along with a custom tune and 100 race gas...I don't see why we couldn't do it either B) .

$95 for me to take mine to a local shop and get 3 dyno pulls. no a/f or anything, just to see performance. I was pretty disappointed with your dyno results and I really want to see how close I am to LMS numbers from their claims.

  3. How much understeer is there in a stock Gen 2 Sport? Probably shows up less at "normal" or posted speed limits than say around a track, twisties, or autox'ing.

I still have not experienced this "understeer" a few other users talked about. My only experience with ripping corners in the edge, and the back end of this thing came around and i left a hershey's kiss in my underwear.

in my experience.. this car will oversteer.. but I will never test that theory a second time!

  4. Yep. I'm an idiot.

You mean the thread where i posted literally 2 posts down from that info...

Some of us need a good kick in the ass, or maybe better glasses. I even did a search on here beforehand. wasn't using the right words I guess.

  5. Anyone know the proper way to install a thermostat on a g2 2016 ford edge sport 2.7

I just got my 160* tstat from Livernois and wasn't sure if its as simple as pop one out, pop one in, like back in the day. Newer engines always have me scratching my head when I try doing simple tasks :headspin:

  6. Mikula, a lot of my mods are traction related. I also launch differently from the other guys. We discussed it and they chose to do what they wanted to do knowing exactly what I was doing.

To your point, I am not sure at what rpm I launch as I just feel it out and step on it progressively from first yellow to third. I don't know what rpm I launch at.

As far as my Edge being a unicorn, that's not the case.

I took it out to track with Chris when I just began racing and I lost 100% of the time. In fact, I lost pretty much every single race against Chris head to head.

Different tunes, wheels, fuel. There are no secrets here. There is no simple explanation for everything.

I think we are now discussing 2 different points. You had said

Mikula, according to your math the 2 other people racing with me on the same day would have been in the 12s too, except they weren't.

Sounded good in theory, did not work out in practice though. One of the guys was running the same exact tune and fuel setup too.

but they don't have the same mods, nor are they driving it the same way you're driving yours. that was my point. I followed by saying half of us should be in the 12's if we were lucky enough to have the same weather you were having. should have stated "with the same mods" being the caveat.

  7. Mikula, according to your math the 2 other people racing with me on the same day would have been in the 12s too, except they weren't.

as i stated, turbos are finicky with weather and temp. you have a weight advantage with your aftermarket wheels, as well as thermostat, and other mods to help you run consistent. You definitely have the Unicorn edge sport out of the group, but don't discredit the amount each mod you've done has affected your times compared to others.

It has also been admitted that you were the only one launching from full throttle, was it not?

  8. buy the SE base block off for the signature LEDs, as someone who owned a 2013 Edge, I can tell you, they will not fit in the slot. Someone on here actually put some DRLs in that spot already. I've actually photoshopped it also, in tons of different ways. I'd look into adding Morimoto MODPODS, that was my idea.

    https://www.theretrofitsource.com/led-accessories/daytime-running-lights/morimoto-mod-pod-mini-led-lights.html

Those look great, but output would be pointing into other lanes of traffic. I'd prefer something not as bright, so it doesn't act as a fog light, or off road light, just more of a "here I am" light, similar to the OEM set-up, but less ugly (hopefully)

  9.

    Using a hp/ speed calculator http://www.wallaceracing.com/et-hp-mph.php

Your 4,400 lb car needs 417.61 hp to get a 12.744 !/4 mile time.

Keep in mind, his DA's at race time are wayyy less than what this calculates for. its a 13 second vehicle at sea level. also, those calculators generally are not accurate with anything but n/a vehicles. twin turbos THRIVE on the cool dense air. 50% of us would be into the 12's running -1500da at 45 degrees outside with AWD

If you don't believe me, use the calculator with 1/8 mile times and see the difference. It just does not do well at those calculations. They're just a silly tool that gets you in the ballpark.

  10. So, I really don't love the look of the "triangle" lights on the bumper of the gen 2 edge. I'd rather have the straight style like on the gen 1 edge.

I'm thinking of blacking out the triangle lights, and fitting the gen 1 lights into the slots horizontally underneath the current triangle drl's. anyone have dimensions of those lights, so I can begin trying to sort out what lights I may be able to buy, and just swap out connectors and rewire?

    st

Notice the horizontal slots underneath the current lights. They are just a plastic removable bezel, and I think I can most likely cut to fit something else in there.

even something as cheap as this may work

    https://www.amazon.com/iJDMTOY-Universal-Daytime-Running-Lights/dp/B00HCSBQ7Y

anyone have dimensions or other thoughts?

Also, does anyone know the watts/amperage of the stock lights so I can get something that is a close match to factory

my secondary reasoning is because I'm in the process of building a cold air intake, and one of the best places to locate it seems to be exactly where the current DRL is located on the driver side. lots of room for me to build some tubing to get air directly into the air box.

  11.

the cost of hot rodding has never been inexpensive.

You're not kidding there! The unfinished projects in my garage can attest to that.

However.... I tend to look at Dough vs Go

and that's a lot of dough, for a little bit of go. But in a situation such as yours, you can bet your buns I'd be buying one of those. Keep kicking those ferrari's around at the snake!

  12. With my new turbos being able to move more air, the stock throttle body became a choke point. So I just ordered up a BBK 65mm throttle body good for 8 to 12 HP on a otherwise stock 2.7. With my setup it should help a bit more than than that. This is a plug and play unit. Loosen 2 hose clamps and remove 4 easy to get to bolts, swap out the units, plug in the wire harness and you are good to go.

any information on if this would do anything for the rest of us with just a tune? I can't imagine we're not getting enough fuel into these engines. Getting more air (and cooler air) seems to be the biggest issue.

  13. Wife put me on notice, she wants an ice cream machine. Wants to make home-made ice cream on the patio this summer.

Anyone know what I should be looking for? What's good, what's bad. Have plenty of ice available.

if you have the ice, you need the cream. Am I reading this right?

  14. Mikula,

I wrote a PM to you but didn't finish. I have access to 4 3D print firms, CNC shops and conventional machine shops. I'm an engineer and my other car is a very extensively modified 1991 Audi Coupe Quattro, 460HP (turbocharged) track car. I've done much of the suspension and power modifications.

I've only had my 2014 Edge EcoBoost for 3 days so I haven't seen the warm air intake you are critical of.

A companion mod would be to replace the restrictive exhaust pipe (~2" dia) from the exhaust manifold, restrictive cat converter, and all the 2" dia piping to the "Y" split for the dual outlets.

Will the 4 cyl turbo Mustang cat converter work/fit?

    Phil Cowan

    So. California

Mine is a 2016 2.7 ecoboost, and is a different design than the 2014. it is true dual from the turbos back, no y-pipe. I did not change the stock cats, but from the cats back, I fabbed a 2.5" exhaust, so that is no longer an issue. I'm interested to work together to see if we can do something about this intake. I have a few ideas I need to bounce around!

  15. So after reviewing the original poster's posts, I finally bit the bullet. I have a 16 MKX and went with the Magnaflow 2.5 inch x-pipe. I am slowly going to add more mods to the exhaust as I get used to just what I have to determine if and when I change out the stock muffler. Getting rid of the resonator didn't do much for my interior noise since I have the Revel 19 speaker setup. My music stays at about a 1/4 of the way up and gradually increases as I speed up as well. Next up is possibly the Magnaflow mufflers he mentioned or something different in a Flowmaster Super 40 or Flowmaster DBX series mufflers. Pictures to follow once I am completed.

I have been a flowmaster guy my whole life. You couldn't tell me a damn thing to change my mind.. Then, after my brother swapped flowmaster for magnaflow on his wifes v6 camaro, I've been hooked.

Flowmaster on a v8, all day long. my mustangs have all had flowmasters, 78 chevy truck, flowmasters. 74 duster, also flowmasters. but in reference to a 6 cyl or a 4 banger, I haven't heard an exhaust note that magnaflow didn't make sound better. granted I haven't tried all that flowmaster has to offer.

Keep in mind, the DBX by flowmaster is a HUGE 6" diameter, and It was a tight fit squeezing the 4" magnaflow mufflers under there. you would have to change the angle of the exhaust coming back. It could probably be done, just a bit more degree in the bends, and I wanted it as straight as possible all the way back.
