Not true.  From the Ford Credit website::

*If you have moved and it is no longer convenient to return to your originating dealer (the dealership which originated your lease), you may return or purchase your lease vehicle through any participating Ford Dealer.

Don't forget X5 is RWD architecture, Edge is FWD.  Makes a difference launching.

It did not skip 2nd if manually shifting, and 2nd gear is so close to 3rd ratio wise it's useless.  The workaround is a quick double tap to force a skip.  Eliminating it is even better.  Best would have been if Ford spaced the ratios correctly.

It's the same transmission, except 2nd gear is programmed out.  In theory a software update should be applicable to 19's and 20's.

How can it 'lug' in 1st gear?

My tuned 2.7's get Mobil 1 0W-40.  5W-30 oil is too thin.  My NA cars that specify 5W-20 get 5W-30.  The reason for the thin oil is MPG and I don't see any decrease from using the slightly thicker oil.

The car has no idea what octane you just put  in.

93 does not get more or less MPG than 87.

The counter is based on recent MPG history and assumes your future driving will be similar.

You must have missed the part about press and hold.

2020 changes 1 MPH per tap, 5 MPH increments if you press and hold.  Much better.

Quick double tap does skip 2nd.

The tune is a must, a lower restriction filter is great for faster turbo spool up.

Not a fan of catch cans. I don't think they are at all needed.

BOV is nothing more than a noise maker.

The rest unnecessary for a DD, the thermostat for track duty where you're in the boost often.  TB has minimal improvement.

The only issue is 2nd gear is too close to 3rd.  If you're running through the gears at full throttle from 1st, 2nd gear is at redline in an instant, require an almost immediate shift.  Ford agrees, since they reprogrammed the 2021 transmission to eliminate 2nd gear.  Hopefully this software fix will become available for 19-20 models.

Next time I drive the car I'll try double clicking the upshift paddle to see if I can fool the transmission into skipping 2nd manually.

Shifted at all RPM points, often.  Full throttle, part throttle.  Started out in 1.  Our 2020 at home shifts fine, too.  Have you had the TSB's done?

Sport mode with manual shifting was used extensively.  All of the ST's were 2019's.  No one had any shift complaints.  Sorry, can't help you.

Debadging is silly.  It started in Europe, where uber sedan drivers started removing them on the theory that not flaunting your wealth reduces the risk of being robbed.  So badges started disappearing from BMW 750i, 760i M's, MB S 500, AMG's.  Not that any Russian mafia type wouldn't be able to distinguish the car from things other than the badges.   Then of course being debadged became a status symbol, so off came the badges on 318i's and C180's.  Then some folks started rationalizing doing it not because they were status seekers, but because it was a 'clean' look.  Whatever.

A few people on some internet forums think the front plate is ugly.  Most people could care less.

I don't understand the obsession with front license plates or brackets.  If the car has the bracket on it and you don't need a front plate, put a logo plate of some kind there.

Circle back, I lived in Houston 1999-2005.  TX requires front plates.  I bought a 2001 BMW M3 new and the dealer asked if I wanted the front license plate, I said aren't they required and he said no one wants them on high end cars and the cops never pull you over.  I say OK.  A few months later, I'm going out to lunch with another guy from work, driving on Allen Parkway, and there in one of the turnouts is a HPD with another M3 pulled over.  The cop is standing with the driver pointing at the front of the car. I say to my friend there is no way he pulled him over for that.  Just then he looks up, sees my car and points to the side.  I get a ticket and when I asked why not a warning he said I'm giving you a warning for not changing your address within 30 days (been like 40).  Moral of the story:

NEVER GIVE A COP ANY REASON TO PULL YOU OVER

Many US States do not require a front license plate.  Many US States also do not require annual safety or emission inspections.  You can take your car wherever you want without getting 'booked'.  It just has to comply with the laws in the state it is registered in.  

We're going in 3 weeks to Asheville.  So far only some group get together the night before is cancelled.

The Edge has not been discontinued.

Edge's (Nautilus's too, obviously) and F-150's are piling up outside of the factories because they are missing certain semiconductors.  Once Ford gets and installs them, these vehicles will be shipped to dealers.

So glad my wife vetoed the 2021 big screen, we got a tremendous deal on the 2020 ST, got it without the 401A package (there is no Cold Weather Package for 2021, so to get the heated steering wheel the 2021 forces 401A on you and we hate sunroofs).  Not to mention we still would not have a car and we've been driving the 2020 for almost 4 months now.

The semiconductor shortage is very real.

That article is poorly written and tough to read.

Plenty of Audi drivers driving around with the damned things on constantly too.
