After 5 month, this is the second time my dealer have to do work on the PTU

 

At the beginning we found oil drip.

 

Dealer change PTU gasket (Transfer Case)

 

Few week after, same oil drip.

 

Dealer change the Entire PTU Unit.

 

I do have the towing package on this vehicule.

I'm pulling a boat of about 3100 lbs

 

Should we think about a stress due to the boat ?

I have a 2008 Ford Edge and get a horrible smell when I use only the vent. I have taken it to my dealer and they also notice it but say there are no bulletins or cure for it. I don't notice it when I use AC or heat but only with the vent. Is there a cure for this?

It sounds like another PTU seal problem. Mine seemed to smell worse when the heat was on.

My 2007 Edge is now back for the third time with the leaking PTU seal. Has anyone looked in to the lemon law with this? Has anyone had any other engine problems due this burning? Sad to say this is the first American made car we have purchased and it will be out last.

I am in for my second PTU replacement. Ford assures me that they redesigned the part in 2/08 and once fixed I should not have any more problems. Any thoughts on this?
