  1. The latest; We picked up the MKX on Friday and returned the loaner 2008 Sable that we had for 3 days. This time they installed 2, 8TAZ-7275-B seals , which constitutes a double set of the seals that had been leaking. I was also contacted by the Ford Zone rep who said they have had success with this repair in the past. They want to inspect the seals after about 500 miles. There is a redesigned PTU due out soon, which they will install in my vehicle whether the current repair is successful or not. Now I do not know if all I have been told is accurate but Ford seems to be trying. I am willing to go along with them until there is no place to go except arbitration as long as they keep trying or until I am satisfied they cannot repair the problem. That point is rapidly approaching. I mentioned to the zone rep that at least one vehicle has been bought back by Ford, just to let him know I know. Again kudos to the dealer who has been the reason I have been so patient. By the way, I also have an unpaved driveway about 400 feet long and love the sound of the cars driving on the stones I have delivered and spread every few years.
  2. C'mon guys this is supposed to be a forum to discuss our common problem with the Edge/MKX not a chance to beat each other up about our choices.
  3. Well my story continues. The MKX is in now for state inspection and sure enough the seals are leaking again. The dealer is arranging a meeting with the Ford zone rep. They are going to try "a repair that has been successful in the Boston area" a double seal. I swear Permatex would work better!! Anyway I am letting them try that and meeting with the Ford rep. At that point I am informing them that if this does not work I will be requesting an escape from the lease with some monetary adjustment and possibly a sweetheart deal on another lease. If that is not agreed to I will be pursuing the BBB avenue. Again my dealer has been very cooperative with all of this and if Ford follows suit I will still be a Ford customer. If not GM is my next supplier. By the way my dealer also is a GM dealer and I will buy there again. This is very dissappointing!
  4. Having a problem with the car is one thing but with the company's handling of the problem is another. I agree that if the company is not responsive a decision to go elsewhere is warranted. Going Japanese because Ford screwed up is not a good response. Why not try GM, unless you have been there and had a bad experience. I find the whole Japanese vs European vs American car controversy unfounded. Once again every manufacturer makes good ones and bad ones at pretty much an equal rate but the handling of the problem "customer service" is key to the whole issue. You may be able to tell I am one of those buy American first guys but that may have something to do with age. Both my sons own Japanese cars made in the USA.
  5. I guess I don't understand that. The Japanese cars are also having all kinds of problems with transmissions, rears etc and since no one makes a trouble free vehicle, one bad experience should not chase you away especially if Ford takes care of the problem to your satisfaction. Two of my brothers-in-law have had nothing but problems with their Honda Accords and they are not being satisfied by Honda. Buy what you like and what meets your needs. Who would have thought the Korean autos would be what they are today just a few short years from the tin cans they sold earlier! If Ford takes care of my problem, if it reappears, I will go back ,maybe even to another MKX. I really like the thing other than this one difficulty and since I have had decades of trouble-free performance from Fords, Why not?
  6. Congratulations with the settlement and good luck with the Chevy. :yup:
  7. It might not be a bad idea to post some info about your MKX here. Where you bought it, VIN number etc. It might be someone else's castoff for that very reason.
  8. My wife came home one day a few weeks ago and we spotted the telltale smoke coming from under the vehicle. It has not happened since and I have not taken the time to crawl underneath to look carefully. I see no spots on the garage floor that would indicate the leak so I am hoping for the best at this point. I am going to try to take the time and look under it this weekend .
  9. Unbelievable! Just absolutely unbelievable! What could they think that would do for you????
  10. When I was still crawling under cars beneath the shade of a good tree we would have gotten out the tube of Permatex and smeared the seal good and thick so maybe an extra seal is a good idea. At this point anything they can think of that works will suit me fine. That could very well be a simple and effective fix and something someone will say "why didn't I think of that?"
  11. Good luck with the Dodge. I have been driving Fords almost exclusively since 1959 and have had just one serious issue, head gasket and warped head on an 88 Taurus, until now. Besides the MKX with PTU issue I am driving an 03 Sable with 180,000 miles and not much to report other than normal service. If Ford reacts well I will get into another MKX because of what a terrific car it is. If not someone else will probably get the business from an old "Ford man". By the way I still have a 1966 Galaxie that I purchased new. :yup:
  12. Further update on my MKX. We saw the fumes and odor just the one time since the last repair and have delayed the trip to the dealer. I am going to crawl under this weekend to have a look. If I see a leak it will go back next week and the BBB will be contacted.
  13. Nice to know someone is being taken care of. Thanks
  14. I just looked at the Mazda CX9 forum and they are having an odor problem related to coolant. What a coincidence. Then I looked further and found this link. http://www.msprotege.com/forum/showthread.php?t=123695109 They are having very serious problems with the PTO. That doe not make me feel any better but at least we are not rowing upriver alone!
  15. My niece has had one for over a year and loves it.
