  1. As I mentioned earlier in this thread, I didn't have upgrade success with either USB or WiFi.  I'm not sure if it was in this forum or a Google search but I saw that the USB drive can't be larger than 32GB.  So I ordered a 32GB drive and finally was able to install the upgrade.

Another tip for those interested: I use a Mac and the installation instructions on the Ford owners website says to unzip the download file using StuffIt Expander (which, contrary to the Ford website, is not available on current Mac systems).  That's not necessary.  I just unzipped the download file using the built-in Mac Archive Utility and set up the USB drive with the files and SyncMyRide folder as shown in the Mac screenshots.

EDIT: One more thing.  When the update finished it said that the new system would be active when the car was restarted.  So first I shut off the engine and waited a second, then started it up.  The old upgrade was still active.  Then I shut it off again, opened the driver door and saw the display shut down.  I started it and still the old UI.  So I shut it off, went into the house for 15-20 minutes, went out and started it up and the new update was working.  YMMV.

Missing or Loose Bolts on Start/Stop Accumulator

Well what do you know,  my 19 ST has been sitting in the garage for a few days, vehicle WiFi enabled but the car has been off.  Started it yesterday and the screen was different, checked the update and it is now 3.4

Thanks for that info.  I tried leaving wifi enabled for one night and there was no update so I disconnected it.  I'll turn it back on and leave if for a week and see what happens.

Did nothing.  Wasn’t even aware it was available yet.

Hmmm.  So I guess that means that wifi is active even when the car is turned off.  I have tried several times to update using a USB flash drive but no luck.  I just connected to wifi and checked for updates.  It scanned but never displayed any result - found or not.  Auto update is turned on.  Now that wifi is connected maybe it will update overnight  (but I have my doubts).

    Front Brake Hoses Could Rupture
A ruptured front brake hose will cause a brake fluid leak, lengthening the distance needed to stop the vehicle, increasing the risk of a crash.

My car was at the dealers service department for two days.  Tech called to say that there is nothing they can do, others have reported the same issue and it is a characteristic of vehicle!  After buying Fords for the past 40 years, this will be my last.

I can understand your frustration.  Unfortunately, many vehicle manufacturers behave pretty much the same when it comes to this level of defect.  They stonewall the issue rather than take the time (and $) to research and apply a remedy.  Although there are times when a class action suit can be an effective motivator, it seems to me it has to be a fairly serious safety issue where the federal government is apt to get involved and force the company to address it in a timely manner.

Followed the recommended Ford update procedures for Sync and I was able to obtain RDS on bluetooth and FM stations!

    Looke here:

    https://help.ford.com/update-sync/usb/

I went to the update site, followed the instructions but have had no luck.

    1) Entered my VIN.

    2) Downloaded the ZIP file.

    3) Formatted two USB drives to ExFAT as directed by website.

    4) Extracted the ZIP file to the USB drive (note that the extracted file layout (Mac) did not match the website - the tar files were in the root folder, not in a SyncMyRide folder.)

    5) Fired up the 2019 Edge (which has SYNC Version 3.3 Build 18201_PRODUCT).

    6) Inserted USB drive and the message "This USB device is not supported. Please remove".  Tried both USB drives on both USB ports.  Same error.

    7) Formatted the USB drives as FAT32.  Tried 6) above - same result.

    8) Formatted a USB drive back to ExFAT, created a SyncMyRide folder and placed tar files there to match the website screenshot layout.  Same error message.

    9) Connected the car to WiFi and selected Auto Updates > Search for Updates (command may be different).  Searched for 3-4 minutes twice, each time no message displayed, good or bad.

End of sob story.  Both USB drives work fine on my Mac, regardless of format.  If anyone has some insight as to what I'm doing wrong or suggestions for an alternative approach, please respond.  Thanks.

And you can't tell me that there isn't more wear and tear on the components utilized to constantly restart.

I agree.  Ford says that cars that have this 'technology' are equipped with a heavy duty starter and battery.  But how would a consumer really know if these components are "beefed up" enough to handle this operation?

Leave it on for 1 month and keep an open mind and see if you get used to it.  I hated it the first time I encountered it but now I actually like it on my f150 and it does save fuel.

Thanks, but we'd never make it that long.  Most importantly, we just don't want the wear and tear on the starter, battery, or anything else that's stressed by this operation.  My uneducated guess is that the savings in fuel is marginal at best, particularly living in an area with few stop lights and light traffic.

  10. I also have this problem in my 2019 SEL with 7,200 miles.  It happens when the car is first started and driven 20 mph or less out of our street.  It seems like the vehicle is hunting for the right gear.  Once it's been running a while the symptom is gone or too subtle to notice.  Outside temperature seems to be irrelevant.  Yesterday afternoon it happened at 75 degrees.

FWIW, Consumer Reports gave the car a good review overall but in their road test report they did say "The eight-speed automatic is unobtrusive most of the time, but sometimes low-speed shifts are clunky."

  11. We like our 2019 SEL. But it's the first car we've owned that has the engine stop/start 'feature'.  We hate it and try to remember to shut it off when we get in the car.

I'm wondering if anyone has installed the override devices that keep the system off. The two I've seen plug into the stop/start wiring, either under the dash or under the console. Installation under the dash seems difficult as it's hard to reach. Installation under the center console requires that you pull of the console cover to get access to the wiring. Either device allows you to turn the system on if desired.  Around $80 IIRC.

Has anyone tried devices like this or any others?
