  1. Well, it's been a year since updated this. But here we are. Made some changes to the ST.

2019 Ford Edge ST 2.7L TT

    5300'+ altitude w/6000' DA

    5Star Racing E50 Tune Rev. 3

    Ultimate Performance Intercooler

    AFE 2.5" Cat-back exhaust

AFE Intake w/Dry filters (used kit)

    Velossa Tech Big Mouth Ram-Air

    CPE Lower Engine Mount

Sport Mode and traction control off

Stock 21" wheels/tires and stock suspension

    No weight removal at all

    1/2 tank full of fuel

    13.36ET @ 103.54mph w/ 1.98 60ft.

This is launching in 2nd gear using paddles w/immediate shift to 3rd then 4th soon after.

    13.43ET @ 102.89 w/ 2.03 60ft.

Launching normal in 1st gear without paddles

I am currently working on a custom airbox/ram-air to replace the AFE. Also cold side pipes as well. To be honest, the K&N panel filter is probably as good as the AFE. My times were almost exact. I am also working on DPs as well but will remain catted. Only draw back is this might cause me to go with upgraded turbos "since I'm there".........ugh!

    1990 Ford Mustang Coupe 5.0

    Currently have now:

    1991 Ford Mustang Coupe 5.0

    1977 Ford Mustang Coupe 5.0

    1978 Ford Mustang Coupe 5.0

    2004 Ford F150 XLT

    2019 Ford Edge ST

    Non-Fords we have now:

2 qty. 2005 Chrysler Crossfires Convertibles - His and Hers. LOL, sort of.

  3. Who doesn't appreciate your efforts? When the ST came into play, things seem to slow down a bit of course some of that is Facebooks fault. I hate that platform. The ST community is not quite as large as the Sport crowd even though we are hitting 3 years of production now but that will be ending and I am thinking along with any aftermarket support too. Better get what you can now while you can, right? I think everything you all did was cool as hell especially for a crossover platform. And to share it with all the other folks is great, you didn't have to either. I appreciate everything you and others have done on this site and I just barely got into this 4 months ago. I am curious of the next venture and will keep my eyes open for that.

JLT Catch Can, nice product, just need to install

I took this as a little picture of something they just got and can't wait to install it. Simple enough.

I've been wanting to install a catch can but just not gotten around to it yet

I took this as a message to SC_ST asking how it went and how it works. Probably best to PM as not everyone comes back these posts quickly.

Sorry but you have yet to pose a direct question???

And to be honest, there was no need to post this question,as in my honest opinion it was not directed to anybody except SC_ST as he was quoted.

Now, the rest of the squabble is pure BS. So just end it now.

  5. Ran today at the strip as this was the last day of the year. Weather was nice and calm of course cooler temps which help. Now the only change to the Edge was a K&N panel filter and the runs were with an E30 tune.

    Albuquerque Dragstrip - Albuquerque, NM. - Altitude 5300'. DA  6700'. Temperature 68'.

Traction control off and in Sport Mode

    1/2 tank of fuel

    13.86ET @99.43mph w/2.06 60ft. time.

A lot of the performance gains is from the filter and cool weather. I am not impressed by the tuner so going to go with someone else. The next tuner will get to enjoy tuning with all the parts I am installing finally but for next year. I will do plenty of Dragy tests though to get it right.

TT Steve , I have custom Comp turbos, FMIC, other mods, and a tune by Joe Granatelli, the son of Andy Granatelli and X indy racer . That may have something to do with it. You are still on the list, and I am working on an adaptor plate that I hope will work on the ST. The adaptor plate will keep the OEM bottom half of the air box and use the V3 top half.

The Granatelli name has been around a long time. When I was looking to supercharge my Mustang II back in 88, I got to meet Joe Granatelli, Jr. and toured the place with Jim Middlebrook who at the time was an engineer there and he showed me the gear driven Vortech supercharger while at Paxton. This was a Paxton product in all reality but Paxton did not like the noisy supercharger so dropped it. Jim Middlebrook grabbed the rights and started Vortech Supercharger in 1990 and the rest is history. Good times.....

The turbos sound nice. I am lookin at possibly a Stage 3 here in the near future. Thanks for the update.

Thanks so much, and glad you like it. I can feel the difference and at some point I will put the car on a dyno and get some numbers . For now all I can say for sure is I saw a small increase in milage and my butt dyno says it makes more power than stock. I ran a 4.55 sec. - 0 to 60mph yesterday and I did not have any octane booster in the car and it was with a 91 tune. I have run those numbers before but I was on a 93 tune with 91 gas and octane booster added. . Hopes that helps some.

That is quick as heck. What tuner do you use if you don't mind me asking? I am slow at 5.60s @79mph with an E30 tune even though I am in a 2019 ST. It seems to be a conservative tune.

And am I stiil in the works of trying the airbox on my ST?

  8. I can tell you what gains in the qtr mile you may see from 86 octane to 91 octane. Here is what I saw with all things being pretty much equal as far as weather, DA, heat under the hood, etc. and completely stock "Not Tuned".

    14.90ET @90.76mph - 86 octane - 1/2 to 3/4 full gas tank full of fuel

    14.59ET @93.21mph  - 91 octane - 1/2 to 3/4 full gas tank full of fuel

14.48ET @94.27mph - 91 octane with VP Racing Octanium Octane booster - 1/2 to 3/4 full of fuel

14.37ET @95.13mph same as above but with a K&N replacement panel filter - 1/2 to 3/4 full of fuel

These are "Tuned" runs on higher octane and a blend with the K&N air filter above and conditions are better than above runs:

    13.98ET @98.77mph - 108 racing unleaded fuel mixed with 91 pump at a 70/30 ratio respectively - 1/4 tank full of fuel

13.89ET @99.43mphE30 blend -- 108 racing unleaded mixed with E85 measured potency of E70 - 1/4 tank to 1/2 tank full of fuel

I am honestly not impressed by the tunes. This thing should be in the mid 13s or close.

A penny for your thoughts......care to share?  What did you have in mind?  It may be to the benefit of everyone that is interested in the airbox.

Well right now nothing to discuss as it is in my mind and not so much on paper. I don't like to say anything about stuff I do until I follow through with it. Otherwise I look like the fool, I hope you all understand. Don't worry, I will share.

After testing with the secondary air inlet. I believe all the V3s will have it. Using just the stock snorkel,  a high flow filter and insulation helped a lot , but when the lid with the secondary air inlet was added I could feel a pronounced difference in power and the engine sounded smoother. I can say with confidence that the secondary air inlet along with the V2 will make the V3 project unique and perform better than any other CAI system currently on the market for the Edge 2.7EB platform.  I am looking at two different options to collect the air.. First is the way I am running now, it is not ideal, but so far it is working great, and is easy to install. My butt-o- meter says my 91 tune now feels more like my 93 tune. .The second way is more difficult to install, and has direct access to ram air. I have not developed the adapter to the ram air part yet.  The way I am running now is ready to go. Some of the parts to develop ram air secondary inlet are arriving today. I am attempting to design it so one can use the simple way until the ram air set up is ready,  then just re-run the hose and attach the ram air adapter and keep everything compatible.

I personally do not want that secondary air inlet. I am working something else for this airbox.

I agree that surface prep is an important and necessary step to applying the insulation.  First, I used a dry clean rag to remove any dust, then cleaned the surface with a fresh rag and acetone before installing the insulation. Perhaps I received an older batch as I have not heard of Thermo-Tec ever having this problem before. It is absoullutly necessary for the insulation to be there to protect the thermoplastic used to create the BottomPatch, and I don't want anyone  to use the intake without that  patch being protected. So... I am up in the air undecided as if to leave the insulation for the customer to install or not.

I would be happy to put on my own insulation. Done it to several vehicles for many friends over the years.

If I recall correctly, you use Acetone as a cleaner/surface prep before you apply the thermal insulation, something about it changing the character of the polymer of the airbox and allowing a better bond. I had thermo wrapped the airbox in my Focus ST, and besides a little corner touch up, it held great for a real long time.

Acetone is great for preparing surfaces for any adhesive. I usually use that a lot but since I go through it so fast and didn't have it handy I had to use what was available (Isopropyl alcohol) which is also excellent for plastic.

  13. This is a PSA for the 2019+ Edge ST.

If you are looking to use the GFB DV+ bypass valve, you more than likely will not be able to use any of the current valves such as T9358 for your Edge. Come to find out, these were changed by Ford where you cannot disassemble them to utilize the GFB DV+ components like you would with the older Sports. From what it sounds like though, you may be able to retrofit an older one to the new Edge as the dimensions are the same, etc. I just do not know the difference in the electronics if that matters.

The 2 first pics from my 2019  ST and the last photo from a 2018 Edge Sport. I guess they call the old valves Pierburg and the new valve Continental.

I use 91 octane when available because of the tune I put in... but I'm pretty much disappointed with the tune's results though... If I knew, I wouldn't have bought the tuner, it's not worth it.

    Claude.

I will be honest too, the 91 octane tune is pointless in my opinion. I am not having a lot of luck with the 93+ tune either. Or maybe I expect too much?

Right now from my previous tests, this is what I have gotten with the Dragy:

Stock tune, 91 octane with octane booster, 80' F at night at the strip 5300' altitude, basic 20 min cool down - 14.37ET @ 95mph

91 tune, 91 octane with octane booster, 78' at night on a Mexico street 5800' altitude, basic 20 min cool down - 14.42ET @97mph

93+ tune 1st ver,  91 octane mixed around 60/40 with 108 race fuel, 60' at night on a Mexico street 5800' altitude, 30 min cool down w/ water spray of intercooler(ambient temp when run starts) - 14.06ET @99mph

93+ tune 2nd ver (2'), 91 oct mixed around 60/40 with 108 race fuel, 60' at night on a Mexico street 5800' altitude, 30 min cool down w/ water spray of intercooler(ambient temp when run starts) - 13.99ET @99.30mph

I am going to the strip tomorrow and will be running a stronger blend of 108. Should be more like race fuel 70/30 with pump plus it will be like mid 70s and sunny. The reason I want a higher ratio is because I had an odd run where KR knocked a ton of timing out which killed power a lot in the midrange. Same night same conditions, etc. Tuner thinks octane is probably not where I think it is. How did I get a good run then a bad run? Data logs showed conditions actually slightly better on the run where timing pulled, Something does not make sense. I need to really study the logs to see if I am missing something.

  15. @Xtra I have used DEI Reflect-A-Gold on my Hayabusa airbox. It has the same type of sticky backing and works probably as good or maybe better than you experienced. I really cleaned the plastic well with Isopropyl alcohol. Still not perfect but unless you want to put on a more permanent glue, it works well enough. It worked reflectiing heat as per my not quite scientific findings.

I will be trying a new reflective tape that is supposed to be better but I have my doubts. I got it for the stock airbox originally but will try it on the new box.

    EDIT: Found some pics

These are the clamps I tested on the Aux Air intake hose. As the hose is corrugated, it turns out that the double wire clamp is best. The double wire clamp applies pressure where the hose touches the tube, and holds tight. The larger SS T-Bolt hose clamp applied pressure at the top where the wire is in the hose, and that allowed the hose to slip off.

    IMG_8690.JPG

I have had heated debates about T bolts and their use. I personally prefer the worm clamp style but not your normal ones. I have used these for quite awhile with great success.
