  1. My 08 SEL with 29.5k just went in the shop with the same cam sensors problem for the 3 day teardwn/repair. I already went thru a nightmare with the PTU seal (7th repair is holding for the last 12k miles). As much as I like the car have to consider cashing in the chips when I get it back. We shal see....
  2. My 08 SEL is in for its 5th repair. I am going to replace the car one way or another at this point(i'll leave that for another post). I don't know if I should take the chance with a 2010 Edge? Other than this PTU leak wifey and I love the car, its handling, style. I see some threads starting up on PTU seal leaks for 2010's. If anyone with a good insight on this can help I'd appreciate it. Also does anyone know if the 2011s use the same AWD system? I understand Flexs and Taurus uses it. It will be pretty foolish of Ford not the correct this.
  3. Going in today for repair #5 on my 08 SEL. Redesigned seals put in on repairs 1 &2, new PTU put in on repair #3, axle & seal replaced repair #4. Don't know what is next. I refuse to drive it in when it is leaking so as to avoid further damage to the transmission - the fluid is usually down at least 1 qt. If you have roadside (under warrantee) I'd recommend using it. just my $0.02.
  4. On to PTU repair #4. I am starting to explore my legal options as well as what Ford Cust service can do to remedy this. 17k miles on 08 awd edge. 4th time in shop, 3rd time this month alone for same issue. Has anyone else had experience with either route? i.e. lemon law filing or working directly with customer service to replace? Any info much appreciated. thanks.
  5. Not even one week and the car is getting towed in in the morning. The entire PTO case was changed this time. This is the 4th repair with less than 18k miles on it (17.7 to be exact). I am awaiting a call back from the Ford case worker. I am in my right at this point to enfore the lemon law, but i'd rather resolve it with Ford first. Maybe they will offer a replacement?
  6. First set of seals done on my 08 in January with 13.5k miles. three week wait for redesigned seals. Second set done on 4/8 with 17k mi., had in stock and was done in one day. Third time's the charm - leaking 2 weeks later. Was down 2 qts of fluid had roadside tow it in (again). Got Ford customer service involved, and expressed my disappointment and no-confidence in the repair (no fault of dealer, they can't fix a bad design). So Ford approved an entire PTU case replacement. Let's see if this makes it to the 3 month mark!
  7. Had the seals replaced 2nd time 2 weeks ago. 2 weeks, 500miles later, and 2 qts tranny fluid down, the seals are leaking again. Had it towed to dealer for 3rd repair. Awaiting a call back from Ford special care team representative to see how this can be resolved. I really have no confidence in any repair, no fault of the dealer service, just a defective design. I need to start exploring my legal options now, seems that a lot of repairs keep failling.. ugh...
  8. The smell is back and the fluid is leaking after the "new" seal kit was installed in January. Lasted 3 months, 3000 mi. Calling the service today. Wiil keep all updated.
  9. Too soon to tell. However when the seal went originally it was a fairly significant leak. Leaked out 1 qt of fluid in a 2 mi ride from the parts store, hence I had roadside tow it in. My $0.02 - let the service department know that you know this is a design problem and you have read up on it. Ask them for a loaner because it will take time to get the part and approval. Not necessarily the service dealer's fault. Do not hesitate to call Ford as well - they know all too well it is an issue.
  10. So it seems my call to Ford might have helped. The new redesigned seal kits were shipped out Monday, and I got my car back today(Thursday). There is a TSB for this the repair slips states fixed as per TSB 09-25-07. Anyone see that tsb?
  11. So I was able to get a loaner from the dealer Saturday. Yesterday(monday, 1 week from tow in) the dealer calls me to tell me that Ford will be shipping the redesigned seals Friday, and I should have the car back Monday. I did call Ford customer service last Friday - I wonder if that prodded anything? The service manager also said that he had the old seal kit in stock, but he did not want to put that piece in, for obvious reasons. So hopefully this new redesigned seal is the solution.
  12. Car's been at the dealer since Monday morning(now Thursday nite) Roadside Assistance towed it in. The red tranny fluid left behind in my driveway on the snow made it look like a crime scene. So the service manager is still waiting to get approval to change the entire PTU. I was told the seals are on backorder with no anticipated delivery date. I hopre the new unit is a "newly" made one, not the older POS. So, they have no loaners available(so they say) and i doubt Ford will allow a rental - shoudl I withold 1/4 of my payment to Ford Motor Credit for this lost week???
  13. It seems that I am joinging the esteemed ranks of a leaky PTO club. I have 13,500 mi on an 08 SEL. Took it down to Florida this past summer, and was a pleasure to ride in. Now, we have some snow and it seems that the cold weather exacerbated the leak. The day before I took the car for an oil change, I first thought the smell/smoke was some residual oil spillage. Then, after sitting in the snow, noticed the red fluid leaking from the seal of the passenger drive axel. I topped off the fluid, and it seemed to leak even more. even with the car off. I am having the roadside service tow it to the dealer tomorrow - I do not want to risk damage to the transmission with a 25 min. ride. For others that experienced this recently, is there any better fix provided yet? I am reading older post with 4-5 trips to the service department, along with long wait times for parts. What should I explicitly tell the service department? New Seal or shaft or entire PTU? Ugh!' Thanks
