  1. NONE of the interior lights that come on when the door, tailgate, or remote opener is activated can be turned off. That is to say, you can't prevent them from coming on when one of the aforementioned things are triggered. I've had Fords for years (and Japanese autos also) and on every prior vehicle, the dash light dimmer switch also turns off the interior lights when turned all the way toward the dim side. There is a thread about installing a switch across the fuse block for the fuse that protects the interior light circuits. Guess there are many others that are POed about having to have interior light on any time a door is opened, etc. Only car I've ever owned that can't turn them off. Look at page 61 of your owners manual. It explains how to cause them to turn on - but nothing about keeping them from coming on. A car of this class should have many small amenities that are missing on a vehicle with a window sticker of $35K. It never dawned on me to look or ask about under hood light, glove compartment light, etc. I could go on and on. My previous Fords had all the features I miss on this car. Of course, the Japanese cars I've owned have the amenities also. They have a much better feel of what the American consumer wants than the American car companies seem to have.
  2. Have a 2009 limited with Vista Roof (BAMR). Shade stopped retracting during the second week of ownership. The motor pulled back the front of the sun shade, but the fabric did not roll up - it just sagged down on your head. Had it repaired at the dealer - and the Dumb A$$ put the front fabric on the leading edge of the shade on the wrong side (top side) so the metal holder of the fabric sun shade was visible. I refused the car and in their rush to quickly fix it correctly, they stabbed the metal leading edge into the headliner and cut it. I'm presently living with a small snag in the headliner as I'm afraid the fix will be worse than the present damage. I've been losing ground. Where have all the smart technicians gone?
  3. I should have checked the forums on the Bumper Protector first. I ordered one from my local dealer because I needed it very quickly. I received it today, and installed it. (Note: it is not returnable once the box is opened) The bumper protector is no thicker than a Wally World plastic milk jug. It does not cover enough of the rear bumper, and does not go close enough to the back edge. If it where thick like the ones that come standard on most SUVs and Crossovers, it would not matter so much that it does not come close to (or cover) the edge. I can't believe Ford would distribute such a dinky, cheap product. Worse, they charge $55 for it. DON'T BUY THE FORM EDGE BUMPER PROTECTOR! Buy the one sold by the person on the Edge forum - or anywhere but Ford. Jim 2009 Blue Limited. Love the vehicle - rides, drives and handles well. Too many things were not thought out for a vehicle of this price, such as glove box lights, console light, and interior lights that CANNOT be turned off, and more.
  4. I have a hitch and a T-connector on order from e-trailer. Are there any tricks to installing the wiring harness/ t-connector? In particular, are there any points in the install that require a wire to be routed from inside the body to outside the bodY? If so, are there any tricks or locations that would make the job easier and safe from creating an opening in the body that could leak? What is the best route to connect to the Batter? Left side or right side of the frame? Know I need to stay from the heat of the exhaust system. Hate to ask so many questions - and it may be obvious when I began the install. I just wish to learn from the experience and wisdom of those that have gone before!!! Any information will be greatly appreciated. Jim Mc
  5. My Dealer did the same thing on another Ford vehicle - overfilled by about 2 qts = even had the excessive quantity of oil put into the motor listed on the invoice and charged for it. When I got home I checked the oil and discovered it - and the invoice charge. I slowly drove back to the dealer and had them fix it. I was livid! The way they solved the problem in 1 1/2 hours is another stupid story, since I told them I was late for as important meeting. You must have to be stupid to work in that lube section. I do my own oil now - or occasionally the Wal-Mart near by but I watch them and provide the correct quantity of oil.
  6. Wife's '09 Edge limited made in 8/08 with chrome clad 18" wheels has stick-on weights (LOTS of them) on the center of the rim. NO clip on weights. Don't know if I have the newer wheels or not since the new wheels came out in the same month as my manufacture date. Jim
  7. THANKS! Appreciate the great reply, Edge Fan. I recently saw the Edge Factory hitch on some site for $180?? if I remember correctly - then add shipping. Don't know of a cheaper unit. Being a really serious cheap (frugal) individual, I hate to pay the huge premium for the Ford hitch. A 1 1/4 inch receiver is rated at 3500 lbs and that's the most one can tow without trailer brakes or other towing equipment. The info on the plug in the rear bumper was GREAT! I haven't even looked at the plug yet. I bought the Edge for my wife, and it has been on the road every one of the few days she has owned it. I wonder if the relays needed to power the plug would cost more than the $50 T connector? Many years ago I had to replace relays and they were very expensive - probably because they were a dealer-only part at the time. I have seen oil cooler adapters that screw on where the filter goes and then your filter screws onto the adapter. Adds about 1.5" to the "hang down" of the oil filter. There are hose connectors that are used to route the oil through the cooler. I would be a little nervous using hose clamps and a reinforced rubber hose to contain the 50+ lbs of pressure on the oil hoses. If you blow one of these hoses off, your engine could be ruined before you would know it. It would only take a few seconds of 0 oil pressure to do damage. Thanks again. Keep me posted on your progress with the factory hitch and the addition of the relays and fuses to support the plug under the bumper. Maybe Ford will come out with a complete trailer tow kit containing all the "stuff". I'm not really in a hurry to do the hitch as I have an Eddie Bauer Expedition to tow everything I have. I just want the flexibility to use the Edge for medium weight towing. Jim Mc 2009 Edge Limited
  8. I am aware that most of the hitch experts here prefer the aftermarket hitches, but I do NOT want a hitch hanging lower than my bumper fascia. I agree with the poster that was unhappy with his 11" clearance. Does anyone know of an aftermarket hitch that installs through the bumper fascia just like the factory hitch? I recently saw a web site that had factory hitches for about $180 plus shipping, but that is a $50 premium (or more) over the best aftermarket hitch. Cutting the fascia is not an issue. In fact, the outline of where to cut is already on the inside of the fascia. I don't need a hitch with more capacity than the 3500 lb class II hitch, so a class II that goes through the bumper fascia would be great if I could find one. ! Any help will be appreciated. Additionally, anyone know of an aftermarket oil cooler kit - and has installed it? I haven't seen a factory hitch Edge, so I don't know where they located the cooler coil or if they used an oil filter adapter to tap the oil lines. I noticed that my Edge already has a HUGE transmission cooler installed from the factory = but no oil cooler or larger radiator. Jim - newbie 2009 Limited (without hitch package unfortunately)
