  1. This all seems like way too much of a pain in the ass to save a dollar or two. I just register for an appointment online, pull into the dealer quick lane, free coffee & donuts, 30-40 min later oil done, no warranty issues because Ford did all the work.

  2. No one makes a turbo kit for the Edge that I am aware of. You would have to find a shop willing to install a custom turbo set up. Plus the shop would also need to ability to tune the vehicle for the new amounts of air and fuel the engine would need to run properly. There are shops out there that can do this sort of work. But it will cost allot of money. You might be better off selling the Edge and getting a Porsche Cayenne turbo, or BMW X5 4.6 or M class amg if you want a fast SUV, It will be cheaper in the long run..

You don't even really need to go to Luxury brands like that. I've seen Trailblazer SS' and SRT Cherokee's hitting 12's without much effort.

  3. I run Mobil 1 5W30 in both my Cobras ('99 and '03), and both run flawlessly. For the '03, owner's manual 'recommends' using 5W20, but states nothing about voiding a warranty should 5W30 be used. With as hot as the '03 gets (its supercharged, and it gets awfully hot), I feel better about running something a bit thicker...I believe it offers more of a safety blanket w/ regard to protection. Keep in mind it's a thin oil film which actually provides protection...While it may be ok for very conservative operation, I am concerned that the 5W20 may be too thin optimal engine protection (not sure how much of the film is left on engine parts after it's sheared).

Years ago, I called SVT (Ford SVT) and asked them about using 5W30 in the '03...all they would say is that Ford 'recommends' the 5W20, but would not say that the 5W30 would cause problems/void the warranty (I asked specifically).

The engine in my (or I should say my wife's) '09 Edge seems to get pretty hot...seems to emit more heat after running than my '99 Cobra. I'm not sure if Ford uses the 5W20 to get better milage numbers...In my way of thinking, I couldn't imagine 5W30 causing damage...but I truly don't know.

Anyway, I was just curious if anyone has used the 5W30.

    Thx.

    Food for thought.

We run 0W-20 in our drag race engine. We want the oil thin as possible to make the most horsepower. We've had zero engines failures due to lack lubrication. So if a 1,100 hp engine can handle 0w I totally trust 5-20 in my Edge.

  4. Heads up for anybody in california. Starting this January we will start CARB4 gasoline. This will require the ethanol to be 10% of the fuel (along with ultra low sulfur and benzene content). EXPECT your mileage to drop. Tough to say how much, but it definitely will. This will also make it extremely difficult for refinerys to make. Expect the cost of fuel to rise a bit also.

You can thank, California Air Resources Board.... not the refinerys

  5. I added very well placed padding to my bike rack as I have also done this. no car damage, but enough to scare me. I also then painted the padding black so it looks like it came that way. this way, if I make the bone head error of opening the boot while the rack is straight up and not swung away, it hits padding. I actually made a laminated color "bike on rack" little placard I can put over the boot release button on the dash as yet another reminder.

if I get the time, I will photo.

Thanks for the info Lex. I'll definitely get some padding in the area that might get hit when the rack is straight up and not tilted away. Just in case it happens again (which I'm sure it will).

Refresh, keep us updated on the touch-up job once you're done.

  6. Damn that sucks. I got real lucky this past weekend. I had my Thule bike rack on the hitch and accidently hit the powerliftgate also. It banged hard against the rack and went back down. I freaked out and immediately checked for damage. Luckly nothing happened. It hit right at the handle for the liftgate. I don't know how it didn't get scratched or damaged.

Hopefully you get get the scratches out w/out having to repaint it.

  7. Can you firm up the shifts via the tuner? Also, is there any performance gained with sticking to the 87 octane tune?

No, you can't change tranny shifting. They said the stock tranny and shifting will be able to hold the power. I honestly didn't get a chance to run the 87 tune. I was full of 91 and only got 1 day of playing time before I returned it back to "stock" because of the tranny code it was throwing (everything is fine when returned to stock).

  8. I've been waiting 4 months for them to fix my tranny code their programmer is throwing. I don't know if things changed for the 09's or what, but they keep saying they are working on it. I'm either getting jerked around or they honestly don't know what's wrong. I'm giving them to the end of this month and I'll be asking for a refund. Steeda claims their's isn't throwing codes, I'll try them next.

I honestly think they are too caught up in Mustangs to worry about some guy with an Edge who's programmer is throwing codes...... to say the least, I'm not happy or impressed with them so far!

  9. just kill the a/c and run the fan a few miles before you stop the car. It will never stink if you do it. If you leave the a/c on when shutting your car off it will stink. All my cars have done this.

  10. Yep, she'll need new rings or seals. I'd ask the dealer to see if they can locate the 2 possible parts first (don't order them, just locate them) and see how long to get them. Then let them have the car. It will cut down on time away from your Edge and save $$ on rental (either for you or them). It would suck for them to tear it down and then find out the parts are back ordered or 2-3 weeks out.

  11. I actually like the new look. The corporate grille fits well with these body lines, not so much on the MKZ. The interior is supposed to be Top-notch. Leather wrapped dash, superior electronics, etc.. :happy feet: I think they really stepped up their game to compete with the other Luxery brands. The $7,000+ price tag over the Edge may now actually be worth it.

I was Lincoln shopping originally, but could not justify the huge price difference for some dash treatments, leather/ wood grain steering wheel, & different grille. The Limited has the same trans tuning as the MKX, same wheels, etc. Hell, my Edge is more loaded than the Lincoln I was eyeballing and still $5000 cheaper. So hopefully the 2011 playing field is FAR apart.

  12. haha funny you say that, the picture in your was actually the deciding factor to go with the sterling grey! What options do you have on yours?

Yeah I fell in love with this color also. She's fully loaded, Nav, amibient lighting, cargo management, panoramic roof, etc....

. I believe it has everything you can get on a Edge minus AWD, I don't need it in southern California. I hope you enjoy yours too :shades:

  13. also check JC Whitney. They are always sending me e-mails for 20% off your total bill. Autoanything is usually cheaper unless JC sends a discount. For example, I got my Magnaflow cat back for $540 counting the 20% off. Nobody could even come close to matching.
