Off topic, but my favorite thing that I got for this truck to replace the airbag warning stickers...lol Just happened to run across it while I was looking up the old pics of this

I love that style of wheels. Very simple and look good. However, I don't think they look all that great in large diameters (like 22"), look better with a "bit" of meat around them. I'd look in the 18-19 inch diameters but of course it's all up to you. I had a set of salvage yard 17" Mustang Bullit wheels (similar style) on my '03 Ranger that I sold (and still regret it) and they looked killer on it. You can also get the centers powder coated to match your vehicle color while leaving the polished aluminum outer ring and that looks good too. I got that done after this pic was taken. The beige color actually looked great on them. Heres a pic of my Ranger..IIRC, the tire size on it was 255/55/17. It nearly perfectly matched the OEM diameter of the tires that came on the truck (so my gearing and speedo wasn't off) and filled in the wheelwells of my mild 3/3 lowering. Not exactly what you are looking for but should show you what the style looks like on a regular Ford vehicle..

We have a 2007 MKX that originally came with a stock CD6 head unit. As many of you know, I have since swapped in a factory MKX Nav head unit, and replaced all the factory speakers (6x8s and front tweeters) with better Infinity Kappa units. Sound is good (a little better than stock) but the speakers can handle alot more power to sound even better so I am considering getting a 4-channel amplifier. I have located a harness kit from PAC Audio (the same company that supplied me with the IPhone/Sirius integration) that requires no cutting or splicing of the factory wires to add such an amplifier. I'm not going to get crazy and install all new speaker wires to the 4 door speakers since I would only be adding 50Wx4 or so. Just wondering if anyone has done this yet on their Edge or MKX. I obviously want to keep the factory Ford NAV unit so no, I don't want to replace the head unit....I know that will get mentioned...haha. Also, not interested in an aftermarket subwoofer or a Stealth box type sub (way too much money).

If so, I have a few questions:

Seems like there is plenty of space under and behind the center console (under the dash area) to hide the amp. That big void seems like it would not cause any heat related issues with the amplifier.

I haven't had a chance to search yet but I'm sure that will answer this question. Where can I get the power for the amp from? Is there any other fused 12V power source around that I could safely use besides running an ugly wire directly to the battery?

Anybody who is experienced in this...what is a middle of the road reasonably priced suggestion for a mild 4 channel amp? Not looking to spend thousands but a reliable, decent one.

Sorry my question was a bit unclear. My edge came with a regular 6-CD system without the Navigation system, and there was an AUX button which allowed you to use the auxiliary jack. I just installed the Navigation system and it seems there is no way to switch on the auxiliary jack. I just want to know if there is any way to turn on the auxiliary/mp3 jack on the Navi system.

 

Anyways, how much would you sell me the 7p disc for?

You will most likely need to get the head unit re-programmed for your specific vehicle. The wiring harness is the same for all but it may not be recognizing the signal from the AUX jack. If you look through my topics, I have a very lengthy trial & error install of a NAV unit into our MKX which just had the regualr 6CD/AM/FM unit in it originally.

Glad I looked this up. Just spent most of the day yesterday cleaning, claying, and waxing our MKX and while we were out at folks today I was trying to unload the boxer (dog) out of the rear. I always lift her in and out to reduce any chances but I forgot to block her as the gate was going up, she jumped out, and put a scratch on our bumper. I got most of it out, but I can still see it. I may look into this Toyota/Scion part.

I purchased a 2009 Ford Navigation radio off Ebay that came out of a 2009 Ford Escape part # 9L8T18K931AG. I hooked up the radio in my 2008 Ford Edge everything seems to work, the gps, sirius radio, phones that I had on the original radio show up in this unit. The only thing I don't understand is why when the radio fist turns on the splash screen shows the Mazda logo and the vehicle must have been a hybrid because one screen shows items for a hybrid vehicle. One other problem is when the radio plays for about 10-15 minutes it will freeze up, none of the buttons will work and you have to unplug the radio and wait for it to shut itself down completely roughly about 10 minutes you can plug it in again and it will work. I am wondering if the radio was reprogrammed it would work right. But the Mazda logo has me stumped. Did Ford make the same radios for Mazda.

I'm not sure if the Escape radio is 100% compatible with the Edge as far as pin-outs and harnesses but I'm sure you did your homework before you purchased. As for the Mazda logo, it more than likely came from a Mazda Tribute which is a near exact twin to the Ford Escape. I was not aware they offered a Tribute Hybrid but then again I am not sure. Sorry I can't be of more help but some internet searching should fill you in. As for the reprogramming, check in my topics. I went through a learning experience putting a factory MKX nav unit in our MKX that wasn't originally equipped with one. Has worked fine for several months now, no problems at all. I did end up having to send it off to get reprogrammed for our specific vehicle.

just take a small screw driver, or your finer tip, and push the little tab and that will allow you to pull it down. really rather easy, it is just the little tab that can be hard to actuate. I use a very small driver to get leverage.

 

it is a dealer only bulb and in fact, there is no bulb to change per se, as it is an entire encased unit of bulb and housing. about $50 a pop! a total rip off from dealer.

 

several of us here have cut the closed unit open - separate the lens from the body to get access to the tiny bulb - with a dremel tool and replaced the bulbs with LEDs.. search for those topics here as they have been covered.

I've had mine out before, it's kind of scary the first time you do it because it feels like they are going to break but as Lex mentioned, once you do it it's fairly easy.

Couldn't you just use Windex on the chrome plastic?

I would suggest using a clay bar on these parts just the same as you would with the painted surfaces. Also keeping a good coat of wax on these parts helps to keep them clean and free of spots that cant be simply washed off. When I clay & wax ours I do all the smooth rubber trim like around the windows, windshield seal, etc. It keeps them blacker and looking good. The wax is easy to get off of these areas since they are smooth. Just dont get any on the textured plastic (like the lower rockers, mirror plastic, etc) because its very hard to remove and makes a mess.

Anyone use/have the Cargo Security Shade from Ford? PN 9T4Z-7845440-AC?

 

Interested in your thoughts on it - does it work?

 

Would like to have something to keep "prying eyes" out of the back of the Edge....

IIRC, the deal is still good on buying 4 Michelins that you get a $70 mail-in rebate. I got ours from TireRack and have no complaints at all, great all around tires. We got the Michelin Latitude Tours.

Here was yesterdays project. An '04 Infiniti G-35 sedan that one of neighbors inherited. I forgot to take any before photos, but it obviously had been very neglected. Paint was in horrible condition, dry, road tar, brake rust, and junk all in the finish, all the door jambs, engine compartment, and trunk area were packed full of old leaves and dirt, and the inside had obviously never been taken care of. Filthy carpet, dried up leather seats, etc.

Anyway, about 8 hours worth of work later I ended up with this. Trashed 2 clay bars getting the paint clean and put on a coat of Meguires NXT, I love that wax...good stuff! The inside and leather, engine compartment, and underneath the car turned out nice too but that was alot of work! Extra cash for messing in the garage on a nice Saturday is fine with me and the neighbor was shocked how nice it turned out so was happy to pay. Now it resembles something you could actually drive instead of thinking you might need a tetanus shot from sitting in it...haha. Enjoy...

How i just found in forum...it is very recommendable to go with the manual and to use 5w20...not other versions. I will follow that...

But i have some questions anyway.

 

Somewhere in tech. data of Eddie i found the engine oil displacement of 5.5 quart. guess that means quart liq. that leads to 5.5 x 0.946 = 5.203 Liters (1,37 gallons).

Is that quantity exactly necessary (or even more) or is a standard 5Liters standard canister enough?

 

My dealer recommends oil change all 20.000km (12500mi). Do you agree? Think i read here something about 7500mi (12000km).

 

What would you recommend how often to change the transmission oil?

Ours takes the full 5.5 quarts, I'm not gonna take the time to covert to liters (lol) but I usually buy a 5 Qt. jug of oil and buy another single quart and pour half of it in. That way you have half a quart to top off if you need any or for the next oil change.

Going 12,500 miles is a long time in my opinion. Not sure what they recommend in the owners manual (I think 7500 miles) I think I'd stick with that. Since we barely drive ours 10,000 or less miles a year I change it once in the spring and once in the fall, about a 5000 mile interval and I use full-synthetic Mobil 1 5W-20. Obviously talking oil life, synthetic vs. factory Motorcraft semi-synthetic, etc opens up a whole mess of debate and thats not what I'm trying to do. Just telling you what I personally do with my oil change interval.

I got our trans fluid changed at 30,000 miles and will do it again at 60k, 90k, etc. May be overkill but again thats just what I do. Again, I would stick with whatever the owners manual suggests but it certainly doesn't hurt to do it more frequently.

I got my nav unit, antenna and bezel off of eBay. I did not have to do any reprogramming. I bought a year correct nav unit.

Mine was also year correct. However due to the fact that our vehicle was not equipped with the high end (in this case) THX sound system, a factory subwoofer, and is equipped with the rear seat entertainment factory roof mounted system that is integrated with the head unit it required some programming. I have an informative lenghty post in the audio section of the forums about my particular install. Hopefully it may come in helpful.

Interesting. I wonder where they place the camera on an MKX since it obviously is not equipped with a Ford emblem? Guess I need to look at some.

Got my OEM Ford antenna from Amazon (came from a Ford dealer), got the Nav unit from Ebay, got the bezel from a wreck at our local salvage yard (no longer there, and no other MKXs there), and the nav unit reprogram from another Ebay vendor. If you need a new bezel, FastPartsNetowrk online sells OEM Ford parts and I think the bezel is listed for about $170. It's not easy or cheap either way you go.

I agree. The filter and drain plug are suprisingly easy to access. If you're thin (like I am becoming not) you don't even need to jack up the vehicle up to reach them.

As for the servicing the trans, I had the fluid replaced in our '07 MKX when it hit 30K earlier this year. I plan to do it again about 60K. I'm sure you could let it go much longer but it really doesn't cost that much and is just peace of mind for me to have it changed on a regular schedule. On older vehicles where you can actually dump the pan, converter, and change the fluid DIY garage style it was messy but easy. Now you pretty much have to take it somewhere and get it done since it is a sealed system.

As for letting fluid go for a long time, I have read and seen that as the fluid gets very dirty and gritty (say 150K-200K miles) it kinda turns into a liquid "sandpaper" that sets a pattern per say in the clutches. I'm not very good at explaining it but its kinda similar to the way that a brake pad and rotor with make a wear pattern in each other. Once it reaches this dirty/gritty stage, changing the fluid with fresh can get rid of this effect. The clutches which have worn-in on this grit now don't have it anymore and can cause slippage. This is why if you have a very high mileage vehicle that has never had the trans fluid changed it's best just to let it go. If you keep the fluid fresh and clean over the life of the vehicle this wont happen.

I just bought a 2008 New Navigation off ebay. no disc, No antenna. The disc I'm ok with as I know how to use torrents. However do i require anything else other then the head unit? Will i need to buy another antenna?

 

Currently I have a 6CD AM/FM radio with Sync in a 2008 Edge Limited AWD.

You'll may need to get it programmed depending on if the vehicle it came from had the high end audio (Audiophile), a factory subwoofer, etc. and yours doesn't or vise versa. Just have to plug it in and try to see if things work or not. You may get lucky and not have to mess with it. I'm not sure how the SYNC works or if needs to be seperately programmed if you swap head units. As for the antenna, the one I got is a short-cable one that fits up inside the dash behind the radio. It's out of sight and doesn't require running and hiding any antenna cable. The Ford part number for it is 8G1Z-10E893-B

If there is anything around them it will pick it up. Mine beep as I pull out of the garage because it picks up the garage door track as I roll by.

Thats funny. Ours does the same thing. About 1-2 "beeps" as I back out. The first few days or so we had it both the wife and I would always stop thinking we left something sitting behind the car.

Thanks for the info but sending my radio out of country is not an option for me. I'll keep an eye out for somebody local....it's just not that big a deal. Was just hoping that there was an easy way to do it.

I like the Lincoln logo, mine always comes up with the THX logo. Do you have to disable THX to get that or is it a user setting?

Its simple plug and play once the radio is programmed to match the vehicle. Not really much to it. The radio comes out with 4 screws once the center panel is removed (just pops off) and it uses the same two harnesses the other radio did. Obviously the antenna plug and GPS antenna too. Easy!

The THX symbol can be changed, just have to find somebody to program it. I used this guy:

Very professional, fast, and done right. As you can see he has 100% positive feedback. I was kinda leery of sending my radio off to someone across the country but he did a great job. My radio needed alot of changing to work right since it was from a THX equipped vehicle and was looking for the factory amplifier and wasn't playing nice with my regular OEM setup. Now everything works perfectly.

Got the version 8P Navigation too!
