  1. We use a "soft/hard" crate for our 3 Italian Greyhounds. It is a fabric/net covering a tubular frame with a top and side door. We set it on the backseat (obviously covered with a sheet to protect the leather) and strap it down to the child seat anchors, really easy and all three of them fit in there nicely. As for our boxer, she simply goes in the rear cargo area. Although it is not 100% the correct and/or safest way to do it, she does instantly lay down as soon as she gets in the car and never tries to walk around, stand up, or roam about the vehicle. She is so used to riding in a car since she was a pup she knows that simply being calm and laying down for a nap is the best course of action. We do have a large/metal crate that she could go in inside the rear cargo area and that would be the proper way to do it but we usually don't. The IGs however if left out would be climbing all over the car, distracting the driver, scratching up the leather and plastic. They usually go right to sleep once they are in their crate together so all is well.

But...if we take them somewhere (dog park, etc.) we usually use the same procedure in my work provided car (a Chevy HHR) since it has cloth seats and there is less of a chance of accidently scratching the leather from loading/unloading. It's lower to the ground also and a little easier on the back to pick up and unload a 70 pound boxer...lol. Plus I'm not all that worried about any dog hairs or dog park dirtiness since its easy to clean up off the cloth and saves any wear and tear from our MKX.

As for the pressure fit cage type thing...I would be afraid of making permanent marks in the headliner. It's basicly just cardboard behind the headliner cloth and it would be easily dented.

  2. Project done. Guy did a great job on the programming, everything works just like it should with no un-necessary buttons on screen for stuff our vehicle doesn't have (like a factory sub and THX). Even the rear seat entertainment system works flawlessly. Much better and alot more things to play with over the factory am/fm/cd unit.

  3. So, it looks like the difference in price between a similarly equipped SEL (202A Rapid Spec-Sync & Leather) and Limited (Base) is about $1,231. That extra on the Limited buys you: Premium Sound (9 speakers including sub), Universal Garage Door Opener, Heated Sideview Mirrors with Security Approach Lamps (?), Brushed Aluminum Interior Trim, Grey Metallic-faced guages, and Chrome Beltline Moldings (?). None of this can be had on an SEL it appears (I could get the sound system if I spring for Navigation - not gonna do it, wouldn't be prudent).

The Premium sound system is appealing, but I'll need to take a second look at the interior trims to see if it matters. My other consideration is I'm leaning toward white, and the Limited only comes in the Platinum Metallic White (an extra $595), not the White Suede.

I'm hoping to make a decision this weekend to take advantage of the $4,000 in incentives Ford is offering. Wonder if that's likely to extend past the current 5/3 end date?

We picked up a lightly used MKX without the roof, just FWD, and all the other bells & whistles. Am in the process of upgrading the factory 6CD am/fm unit to nav but overall its been great so far. QUite happy with the "lack" of problematic options. We do however love the heated and cooled seats, leather, and other amenities.

We looked at new Edge Limiteds when choosing a vehicle with all the stuff but happened across this for a great deal and am quite happy we got it after hearing all the problems with the leaky AWD units and rattly vista-roof issues.

And the Tri-White or metallic white is beautiful, its almost worth the extra cost if you decide to go that way. I always take a second glance when I see one on the road.

  4. Update,

Still waiting on the guy to get done with my radio reprogram. Hes been busy but hopes to have it shipped out this weekend. He is providing good communication so I'm not worried about it. It's raining all weekend here so it would have been a good time to hang out in the garage and do the swap but thats ok.

In the meantime, heres the parts I have. A Ford OEM GPS antenna, the new radio/vent bezel part to fit the full screen nav radio in, and a door bezel part that apparently the window tint guys broke a clip off of and didn't bother to mention. I found it when I was doing the front door speaker swap.

Now to just find a "reasonably" priced Navteq 8P disc to replace the older one that came with my radio and I'll be in business.

  5. Did you ever make it out to Trester's ? Just wondering if you had any luck!

No, never did. I managed to find a bezel while cruising around Ebay the other day for decent price so I grabbed it. Should be here tomorrow. My GPS antenna arrived today too. Guy got my radio on Wednesday and he should be done with it this weekend, said he usually ships on Mondays so it may be here by the end of next week.

I'm actually kind of free this weekend and was thinking about heading to Tresters just to scrounge around but now it's supposed to rain....blah.

  6. Hello All,

New here but getting a wealth of knowledge about my MKX.

Quick question which I could not locate via search. My 2007 MKX has seen a little love on the climate control buttons. It's previous owner apparently felt the need to jab the fan button, eventually leading to marring the silver finish on the fan control.

I took my truck in for service today and asked them to look at it. They are asking that I bring it back next week to let their "touch up guy" try and repaint the switch. I know its trivial, but I'm fearful that its going to look "touched up" instead of the way it should.

Has anyone had this done at their dealer who can provide feedback. They've also offered to touch up the steering wheel radio control switches that are seeing the same rub on the corners.

Thanks in advance for your input, as well as the knowledge I'm collecting throughout the site!

    Jason

I need a little of the same on our MKX around the hand grabs on the door interiors. I wish I could find some spray cans of that exact color silver in a plastic type paint that I could use. I'm not sure about the touch up guy. The touch up guy tried to fix a small tear in the passenger seat back of the front seat (the area that looks like leather but is actually vinyl) when we got the vehicle last year and dis-colored it so bad that the dealer agreed to replace that section of material with new OEM stuff. I would imagine there are more reliable places but dealers generally outsource this type of work to outside companies and the work varies from place to place. If you get to the dealer on a certain day of the week you'll notice a guy with a van (usually doing stuff to used cars, trade-ins, and lease returns) that does paint touch ups, installs the stick on pinstriping, and does various other minor cosmetic work. Thats who would do your work.

  7. Well, after talking to many people on various forums, many wasted hours on the internet, and contacting this place I am going to have this place do my reprogram:

    http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=140398550932&ssPageName=ADME:X:RTQ:MOTORS:1123#ht_1929wt_1167

He was very helpful answering my questions, very knowledgeable, and has a slew of great reviews and feedback. Back in the box it goes! In the meantime I can get my antenna ordered and track down the radio/vent bezel piece.

  8. Trester is a good place to get parts cheap! I got most of my interior for my Ranger there (except the seats) I need to make another trip to see what new stuff the got in since I haven't been since fall. The last time I was there they didn't have any Edge or MKX but you never know what they will have. At least they still let you go back and look around unlike most places in the area. Good luck!

Yes it is! I love that place.

  9. Wow that's a great price!! does it come with the disc? you will need one for it to operate.

you might be able to find your bezel on car-parts.com (do you need to change the bezel?)

    Couldn't locate one on there.

But yeah, to go from the factory 6-disc AM/FM non nav radio you do have to change the bezel. They are a little different. There is a plastic "bar" that goes across the regular am/fm/6cd unit that would be in the way of the screen on the nav unit. I'm sure with some creative dremel too work it could be fixed but it might look butchered. I'd rather have perfect. I'm going to hit the salvage yard in Milford tomorrow (hopefully) and see if they have any wrecked MKXs there I can scrounge from. They usually have alot of good late model stuff.

Did come with the disc but I'm not sure how often they need to be replaced/updated to be current. I don't have the antenna yet for the GPS either but when I had it plugged into the car the other day every function worked fine except for my current snafu with the programming but with some research and help I found that wont even be a big deal. Just another $70. But hey, it's only money...haha. I got such a good price for the unit itself I couldn't pass it up.

  10. The unit needs to be configured, there is a data bit that identifies it as THX, once it is configured you will get the Lincoln logo at start up and things will work ok.

Vehicle speed is already active since the previous unit used it for speed sensitive volume and reverse park aid if you have it.

If your were in the Dearborn area I could reconfig for you FOC since I have access to the equipment, know the specs, and have done it many times. I have seen somebody on ebay offer this service - think it was about $70 - you ship unit to them with vehicle spec and they program and send it back.

    Thanks for this info...most helpful!

  11. I am having a bit of trouble. Plugged the unit up and it works. However, according to everything I had read the (7A1T-18K931-DA) unit was supposed to from a vehicle without the THX sound system. When I plug it up, the screen comes up with the THX Certified symbol and I have no volume control and horrible sound quality. Probably because it is looking for or trying to send the audio through the factory amp which isn't there. The 2 radio harness plugs on the back are exactly the same and everything else works perfectly....well, not the nav...I haven't purchased an antenna yet but the function is there and working correctly. Dimming, steering wheel controls, and Sirius all work just as they should.

    Anyway,

I am in a deep internet search to find someone who can do the vehicle specific reprogramming of this unit. I have read that the unit can be "mirrored" to act the same way as the factory radio that came out of the car. By that I mean it can be programmed to send a normal full range 4 way audio signal out instead of looking for the factory amp. You can even change the startup graphic (for those who installed Mercury units in theirs and have the Mercury symbol) As I said, both radio harness plugs and pinouts are identical to the radio currently in the car so it's possible. I've also found that sometimes for the NAV to work properly, it may need to be programmed to recognize the VSS signal in the radio harness of a different but identical vehicle...weird huh? I do know a dealer can reprogram the radios but I want to look for other options first as I'm sure they'd charge a fortune and more than likely unwilling to help anyway. It takes a code scanner, VIN, and some other knowledge that I just dont have.

If anyone can help point me in the direction of anyone, a ford tech friend who knows how to do this, or a vendor who can do such programming I would appreciate it. If all else fails, I will simply just re-sell the unit on Ebay. I wont lose any money on it.

  12. hello.. I just bought a ford edge limited and is a 2008..... it comes with the family dvd system .... and I am having problems with it..... first i tried the dvs and they work fine...until today somethin happen and they don't work at all anymore... they don't turn on... and they won't eject the dvd i left in it..... any help...

Is it the ceiling mounted unit (thats what ours has) or the ones in the back of the front seat headrests? That may help narrow down any help.

  13. Won a bid on Ebay for a perfect factory '07 MKX Nav head unit for our '07 MKX. Our car is equipped with non THX, non Nav, and obviously the '07s didn't have Sync so I found just the unit I need (7A1T-18K931-DA), one from a similarly equipped vehicle which is kind of a rare find as most are from THX equipped vehicles. Won with an offer of $475, not too shabby. Anyway, I still need to order the dash panel/center bezel part mad for the Nav unit (7A1Z-7804302-AA). The cheapest I can find for a new one is $160 or so from Fast Parts Network (a great place to order factory/OEM Ford parts) and I found the new Ford GPS antenna (8L3T-10E893-AA) on Amazon for another $95. This antenna appears to be an in dash mount so I shouldn't have to mess with running any cable. Unit should be here this week so I'm going to plug it up and make sure everything works properly and then order my other stuff that I need. There are a couple late model salvage yards around here I need to check out so I may be able to find a wrecked MKX to harvest the center stack part from but I haven't had time as of yet.

Besides this would I need anything else? Seems to be a bit fuzzy from what I've read but I don't believe I'll need to get it unlocked to work in our vehicle.

As for the update navigation discs...how often do you need to upgrade? I'm not clear on that subject either.

If anyone has any suggestions or insight into anything else I'll need I would appreciate it. Also if there are any discrepancies with my part numbers for the antenna or dash panel I would love to hear about it. Dont be afraid to tell me "Hey stupid, thats the wrong part". I did plenty of research and I am 99% sure I am getting the correct stuff.

I'll keep everyone posted on my progress...thanks!

  14. For the Edge Premium audio speakers I was able to save the plastic tweeter mounts located in the A-pillar. The Premium audio factory tweeters snap out of the mount on the sides. You can carefull pry the tweeter out. DO NOT try prying the small 1/8 inch tabs holding the magnet on back of the tweeter. Instead, pry upwards on the sides below these 1/8" tabs.

If your new tweeter size is close to the factory tweeter you can use super glue or if your really lucky thay snap right it.

Be aware that ordinary super glue will not work on these polyethylene/polypropylene plastics.

You will need Loctite Super Glue "All Plastics" with primer. Available at Home Depot.

My MKX has the tweeters in the door panels. I simply clipped off the tabs and did some creative small bolt and nut mounting.

  15. Got em in today!! Not very hard, just a little interior door panel modification to mount the tweeters. It's a bit scary chomping off the factory tweeter mounts and cutting a little plastic off a tab on the door panel but once its done it's pretty easy to get the new ones in. A little trial and error before the final mounting gets them lined up perfectly with the factory tweeter grilles. It took me about 4 hours although that included lots of breaks, talked to the neighbor for a while, and I soldered and shirk-tubed all the connections, and neatly routed and zip tied all the wiring inside the door panel. One could easily do it much quicker but I wasn't in any hurry. I also installed a square of Dynamat behind them on the inside of the door skin and used a set of those foam baffle things. That factory installed black foam piece in the door makes an ideal spot to stuff the crossover in and a simple zip-tie around it holds it in place.

Wife had the camera with her so I didn't get any pics but I used the ones in this post that Kempie posted, very helpful. My install looked very similar.

    http://www.fordedgeforum.com/index.php?/topic/4353-replace-front-door-speakers-and-keep-factory-tweeterharness/page__p__34142__hl__kappa__fromsearch__1entry34142

As for the sound, it is much clearer, cleaner, and louder although I think I may have lost just a tiny bit of bass...suprising since the factory front speakers are so puny. Obviously these new ones would sound alot better if fed some power. I'm currently just running the stock head unit...thats next on the agenda.

I found that the window tint guys broke the tab off the door handle/power lock/tweeter cover panel on the door so I am ordering a new one as we speak. I hate letting people work on my cars...I'm just too picky I guess.

  16. I also almost got suckered by this company. When I read the reviews after a few weeks of waiting with no product delivery I called my Visa credit card company and explained that DealerCostCarAudio had charged my card but did not have the product in stock. This is a violation of the VISA merchant rules. A company can not charge your credit card until the product is shipped.

When DealerCostCarAudio found out I was no pushover and saw that VISA was involved they credited my CC immeadiately.

This is the worse company I have ever dealt with by a looong shot.

Yeah, it was definately the worst online vendor experience I have ever had and from now on I will check out every unfamilar vendor before I consider dealing with them. I order ALOT of stuff online and have never had any problems. Fortunately, I had saved every Email, times, dates, order information and everything between myself and their end from the initial order on and it was very helpful for the credit card company (VISA) to use to go after them. After 3 months of runaround and lies after they took my money they even had the gall to ask me to call off the credit card dispute and remove my comments and rating on BBB, reporting them to the Attorney General of CA (where they are located), and other similar consumer affairs organizations that I contacted...yeah right! Oh well, I got my money back.

  17. Apparently the little black plastic door/cover that clips on over the high beam/turn signal bulb on our MKX was not latched all the way when I went to detail the vehicle last weekend. Did my usual engine compartment cleaning/hose out and didn't notice it. Now after soaking the water out as much as possible with paper towels, It is sitting out in the driveway with the hood up and bulbs pulled out to dry out. Fortunately there is no water inside the chrome portion of the headlight, just in the black plastic behind it which was causing the whole headlight to fog up from the inside. Hopefully I don't end up with any water spots inside the headlight chrome portion or lens but no water actually entered there so I should be OK, just foggy. A new headlight assembly with the adaptive headlight function is over $700 from Ford...Yikes!

If you have an MKX, make sure to check those out before you spray out your engine area. Obviously I don't use high pressure water and always cover the coil pack with a zip lock bag but never thought about this happening. Just an FYI for you all. I may put a thin coating of vaseline or clear grease on the gaskets of those doors when I put it back together for extra measure.
