  1. Welcome to the Forum. Hope you continue to enjoy your new ride.

More importantly, congrats on being retired at 58 - that proves you are a solid thinker.

The tough decision is - what are you going to do for the next 58 years? Spend some of the time here!

  2. The 710 cap - oops turn it over -----OIL cap is 1 1/2 Inches deep - same as on the Edge.

The MKX has a 3 1/8" long plastic sleeve that goes doen into the valve cover that the OIL cap screws into.

I believe that this sleeve (and foam rubber gasket) is what you will need to install the cover and use your existing cap. I do not know if the valve cover is different - that would be a major swap out. Hopefully the sleeve screws into the valve cover and the cap screws into it. I presume the rubber gasket around the sleeve at the top keeps the cover from making noise.

  3. The postings have deteriated - not to the Mustang/Camaro level, but too much swearing and inappropriate conversation/images.

If it continues, we should insist on an "Ignore" button to tune out the offenders.

Inane posts should be called out - not that some of the posters could ever be embarassed, but just tp alert sencere readers to skip the poster in the future.

There are pleanty of other sites they can Troll.

  4. At the end of 3 years on a lease, you can easily determine if the vehicle is worth more than the buy out price (even with the $250 fee). If it is not and you don't want a three year old vehicle, turn it in.

If you have maintained the vheicle, it still looks good and it is worth more than the buy out price, buy it. Keep it if you want, or sell it/trade it in on another vehicle. If you think through your options at that time, you can maximize your cost savings at that time. As you said, the low interest rate is a great deal for the next three years, regardless of whether you turn it in or buy it out.

  5. Does anyone else have a serious problem with their driver seat not being comfortable? When you initially sit on it, it is very comfortable and soft. But stay in it for more than 5 minutes, and my back hurts and I cannot get comfortable to save my life!

I have tried to adjust it every which way, but nothing helps. Any suggestions or comments?

Welcome 'BlondiCJ1' - Don't sweat the "Right Fighters" - most of them are big talkers when they are anomymous.

I have an Edge SEL and a MKX, both with premium Packages. The seats in the MKX are far superior for ride comfort, with the added bonus of heating and cooling. I have leather in the SEL with the heated seat option and 6 way power. After 30 minutes or more, it feels like the cushioning has bottomed out in the Edge and I find it less comfortable. It starts out softer than the MKX but ends up harder.

I'm sure there are a lot of factors that go into seat comfort because there are a lot of different "Frames" that have to sit on them. I'm 200+ lbs at 6'1". My wife, at 125 Lbs and 5'4", does not have any problem with the SEL seats.

If I had not ridden in the MKX, I probably would not have noticed the difference as much. I will look at a cushion device before I take a two day trip in the Edge (or better yet, just take the MKX).

If I drove the Edge for any distance every day, I would consider a cushion or lambs wool seat covers - (yeah, I know - tacky), or go to a trim shop and see if they can insert a layer of memory foam or something else to prevent the cushion for bottoming out under my tonage.

  6. Hello Everyone,

I'm getting my new Edge in a few weeks (very excited by the way, haven't had a new car in over six years). One of the main reasons I decided on the edge was the engine - I love it - and I can't wait to really step on it. However, I don't know if I should do that with a brand new engine (I'm not really a car guy unfortunately) - should I drive casually for a while and break it in? Will I do any damage by starting off driving hard? Any advice is much appreciated.

    -Matt

Welcome Matt - you are correct to be concerned about going WOT (wide open throttle) with a new engine. Any debris or rough surface conditions can cause problems down the road. A new engine like ours needs the rings to seat and the all load gear faces to wear in with a broad pattern (to help prevent gear whine).

Vary your speed for the first 2,000 miles. (Don't set the speed control and go 200+ miles). A mixture of city and highway would be best.

Leave the factory fill oil in for at least 3,000 miles to be safe. This will help the rings seat and prevent glazing of the cylinder walls. Don't load the engine by towing or doing racing starts for 1,000 miles to be safe. It will be tempting because the 6 speed tranny has a wicked low gear.

Try to avoid panic stops. New rotors don't like to overheat, especially when you sit with the brake pads locked against them - the uncovered sufraces cool down at a much faster rate than the surface under the pads which can cause warping.

I hope this helps your understanding of what the experts would do. Lord knows there are pleanty of snake oil salesmen and shade tree mechanics that can recommend anything under the sun. Chances are you wouldn't have problems no mater what you did, but why risk it on a coin flip. Glaze the cylinder walls and use oil. Warp the rotors and pulse every stop. Break-in gears at a constant load and listen to them whine.

I know what I will do.

  7. Follow up on Fridays - Ford updates scheduling and reporting each Thru. evening.

Order to delivery timing has a lot of variables -

Does the dealer have allocation for the next months production?

Are you ordering high risk options (BAMR)?

Did the dealer order as a retail or stock unit?

What priority did the dealer put on the order (10-99)?

Did the dealer convert a stock order (already in the system) to your retail order?

Did the dealer hold the order before putting it in? (Order manager out ?)

Is the plant down for changeover/vacation?

    and many more.

All things the dealership would know about if they checked their bulletins, and/or control themselves.

    YMMV.

Here is a REAL INTERVIEW with an illegal Mexican at a protest march in Texas.

This is good! Below is a good example of a discussion with a master of circular

logic. Don't be logical, don't respect the truth or your adversary, just say

what you think makes a new case when the previous case gets too difficult to

    defend.

Jim Moore reporting for a Houston TV station on the streets of downtown Houston

    on

    May 1, 2006:

Jim: Juan, I see that you and thousands of other protesters are marching in

the streets to demonstrate for your cause. Exactly what is your cause and

what do you expect to accomplish by this protest?

Juan: We want our rights. We will show you how powerful we are. We will

    bring Houston to its knees!

    Jim: What rights?

Juan: Our right to live here...legally. Our right to get all the benefits you

    get.

Jim: When did you come to the United States?

Juan : Six years ago. I crossed over the border at night with s even other friends.

    Jim: Why did you come?

Juan : For work. I can earn as much in a month as I could in a year in

Mexico. Besides, I get free health care, our Mexican children can go to

school free, if I lose my job I will get Welfare, and someday I will have

the Social Security. Nothing like that in Mexico!

Jim: Did you feel badly about breaking our immigration laws when you came?

Juan: No! Why should I feel bad? I have a right to be here. I have a! rig! ht

to amnesty. I paid lots of money for my Social Security and Green Cards.

Jim: How did you acquire those documents?

Juan : From a guy in Dallas. He charged me a lot of money too.

Jim: Did you know that those documents were forged?

Juan : It is of no matter. I have a right to be here and work.

Jim: What is the "right" you speak of?

Juan : The right of all Aliens. It is found in your Constitution. Read it!

Jim: I have read it, but I do not remember it saying anything about rights

    for Aliens.

Juan: It is in that part where it says that all men have Alien rights, like

the right to pursue happiness. I wasn't happy in Mexico, so I came here.

Jim: I think you are referring to the declaration of Independence and that

document speaks to unalienable rights .. Not Alien rights.

    Juan: Whatever.

Jim: Since you are demanding to become an American citizen, why then are you

    carrying a Mexican Flag?

    Juan: Because I am Mexican.

Jim: But you said you want to be given amnesty ... to become a US citizen.

Juan: No. This is not what we want. This is our country, a part of Mexico

that you Gringos stole from us. We want it returned to its rightful owner.

Jim: Juan, you are standing in Texas. After wining the war with Mexico,

Texas became a Republic, and later Texans voted to join the USA. It was not

    stolen from Mexico.

Juan: That is a Gringo lie. Texas was stolen. So was California, New Mexico

and Arizona. It is just like all the other stuff you Gringos steal, like

oil and babies. You are a country of thieves.

Jim: Babies? You think we steal babies?

Juan: Sure. Like from Korea and Vietnam and China. I see them all over the

place. You let all these foreigners in, but try to keep us Mexicans out. How

    is this fair?

Jim: So, you really don't want to become an American citizen then.

Juan: I just want my rights! Everyone has a right to live, work, and speak

their native language wherever and whenever they please. That's

another thing we demand. All signs and official documents should be in

Spanish . Teachers must teach in Spanish. Soon, more people here in Houston

will speak Spanish than English. It is our right!

Jim: If I were to cross over the border into Mexico without proper

documentation, what rights would I have there?

Juan: None. You would probably go to jail, but that's different.

Jim: How is it different? You said everyone has the right to live wherever

    they please.

Juan: You Gringos are a bunch of land grabbing thieves. Now you want Mexico

too? Mexico has its rights. You Gringos have no rights in Mexico. Why would

you want to go there anyway? There is no free medical service, schools, or

welfare there for foreigners such as you. You cannot even own land in my

country. Stay in the country of your birth.

Jim: I can see that there is no way that we can agree on this issue. Thank

    you for your comments.

    Juan: Viva Mexico!

Pass this along to every American citizen in your address books and to every

representative in the state and federal government. If you choose to remain

uninvolved, do not be amazed when you no longer have a nation to call your

own nor anything you have worked for left since it will be "redistributed"

to the activists while you are so peacefully staying out of the "fray".

Check history, it is full of nations/empires that disappeared when its

citizens no longer held their cor e beliefs and values. One person CAN make a

difference. One plus one plus one plus one plus one plus one........

The battle for our secure borders and immigration laws that actually mean

    something, however, hasn't even begun.

  9. Nice to have you here. We also looked at the Edge but one drive in the MKX was enough to tip the scales for the Mrs. (Power liftgate, heated/cooled seats, homelink, etc.). Then I got a good deal on an '07 Edge for me. These are new cars #110 and #111 for us, so we will see how long they stay around (2 year lease on the MKX.)

Please continue to post your experiences.

  10. :redcard:

I just ordered an Edge (11/10/07). Judging by what I am seeing in these Forums, the VIN numbers are generated pretty quickly. When I asked my salesman for the VIN number he said that it isn't available until the car is built. Did I miss something? Can I submit an order number to someone and get the VIN that way?

Part of the VIN is generated when the vehicle is accepted and the balance of the VIN is completed when the vehicle is scheduled (Serialized). This can be a matter of days or weeks before actual production.

  11. I ordered my new Edge AWD Limited in October and it is due in December.

How do I know if the dealer is giving me ALL the available incentives??

Is there anywhere I can go (Web Page) that lists all the available incentives on each model and year??

IT would be great is there was a Forum added that was kept up to date with all Ford Incentives ????

The only incentives you are eligible for are the retail customer cash back and any special incentives that might be offered to special groups like associations, special mailings, prior customers coming off lease etc. There may be other incentives for dealers and their sales personnel and final pay "moneys" that help the dealer sell the units. Many of these incentives vary by market, so what might be in Atlanta, might not be in Reno. Local Advertising funds often create special considerations. Even dealers have to research every deal to make sure they have claimed all the available incentives.

  12. My garage door openers were installed before the days of "Rolling Code" so I can use any Homelink remote. If you have newer garage door openers, make sure any Homelink you buy from E-Bay, etc. has the Rolling Code technology.

PS - if you buy a radio for your Edge off E-Bay or from a radio store, there has been an antenna change and older radios will not work without an antenna adaptor. Went through that on my F150 - the change for most radios happened in 2007.

  13. The dealer is best equiped to provide an estimate because they control much of the scheduling priority. An order will not be scheduled until the dealership has allocation and the commodities are available to build the unit. If the dealership has already submitted orders for more than their allocation, or for other vehicles with higher priorities than they placed on your unit, the delay might be longer than others have experienced.

BAMR is currently high risk - higher order volume than can be scheduled. Hopefully they took that into consideration when they gave you a timing estimate.

  14. What options are on your MKX and what were the lease terms/cost if you don't mind me asking?

2007 with Sirius, Ultimate package and heated rear seats for 2 years at $471 - I don't recall the interest rate or the residual used but I did the 10,500 miles/yr. (Z Plan)

  15. There are special interest rates on a purchase.

There is an additional incentive and very low rates on a Red Carpet Lease in the Atlanta market.

You may want to have them figure a 2-3 year lease, just to see what the payments would be. At the end of the lease, you could walk away from it or buy it at a predetermined price. I did the lease on the MKX figuring my son would buy it at the end of the lease if it turns out to be a very good vehicle - so far - so good.
