  1. Could I be the only Ford Edge owner in Finland?

Have been in Canada for 3 years and just returned with my Edge.

Just changed engine calibration using a Max Energy Power Programmer from Hypertech as the Edge is calibrated to run on 87 AKE (equal to 92RON in Europe) and standard fuel here is 95RON. Calibration changed to Premium 92 AKE (about the same as 95RON) and fuel consumption has improved. The Hypertech also allows to removal of the speed limiter which may be of interest for those of you in Germany.

  2. So got the new 2011 Edge Sport Tail lights finally installed . Also the new trim for above the license plate also from a 2011 so i can mount my camera like the factory camera.

I had the trim panel painted to match . Also moved the tailgate release switch from above the plate to the right of the plate.

I cant understand how they developed this vehicle in the first place with red turn signals, looks good.

Can you tell me how you separated the brake and turn feed that comes from a single wire?

I know I could take the brake feed from the centre brake but what about the turn signal and affects to bulb failure warning system?

i tried my cousins taillights on my sport and they fit perfectly

the harness needs to spliced in so the lights work

I looked at this as an option for my 2008 which I have now brought back to Finland (I think its the only one here). I noticed that there is a curve at the bottom to fit the profile of the bumper and was not sure how it would look if I fit 2011 tail lights. I would be interested see the result of the 2011 lamps on a 2010.

I still have red turn signals which were passed by vehicle inspection here as the recognise that its not an easy job. I did have to separate the front turn signal and parking lights (drilled and installed 5W bulbs in headlamps for parking lamps). Then had to have turn signals on the side of the vehicle (front wing or door mirror). I choose to install LED to door mirrors as small voltage drop does not affect the system. And finally stamp the VIN number into the chassis (under the hood).

I looked at the tail lights but at present, there is one wire that feeds the brake and turn and I don't know how far I have to go to find where they first come together. Alternative would be to take the brake feed from the centre brake and take the turn signal from the front.

    Good luck.

  4. The lights will fit,I am waiting for my order, wiring mods must be done to use the amber turn, and you have to add a socket and lamp for the red stop and tail, the 2011 version uses 2 lamps,Marty

I looked at this as an option for my Edge which I am now running in Europe but the shape of the light (curve) is different. Would be interested to know what the wiring mods are. I went to separate but one wire is the brake and turn signal so only option was to use the central brake light and feed the left and right and take turn signal feed from front . Inspection let it go with red turn signals so no problem in the end but I would like to change as red turn signals are not good.

  5. I just returned to Finland after a 3 year working trip in Canada and have brought back my 2008 Ford Edge Limited, not sold here and some changes needed:

    1) Front turn signal and park light needed separating and park light needs to be white - Completed with small 5W bulbs in headlights as new park lights and turn signal lamps only operate as turn signals.

    2) Turn signals required on side of car (either front fender near door or door mirror) - I found some LED turn signals that stick to door mirrors, wired to front turn signals and current draw is very low.

    3) Day time running lights required on back and front - Taped auto light sensor and run with switch in this mode always.

    4) Rear red fog light - Completed

The final requirement is amber turn signals on rear which, I planned to do with LED turn signal kit as used on door mirrors but the problem is that the live wire for the brake light activation is the same wire for the turn signal function so its not possible to separate the function to allow the brake to remain red and the turn signal to be amber.

    Any ideas??????

  6. They ride fine. Only slightly stiffer than on the factory 17 inch. MPG went down a bit, though.

Sorry to change the subject but you mention that you imported the vehicle to Germany, I am looking to take my Ford Edge back to Finland after my 3 years working in Canada. I know that I have to change the rear lights, turn signals in reverse light and change to yellow bulbs and then fit new reverse and fog light to the rear and split front side light and turn signal. But I notice you have not added an extra turn signal to the front wing or door mirror, is it not required under EU rules to have side turn lamps?

Have you made any engine calibration changes to get the most from running the higher octane fuel?

  7. Calm down boys! I would agree that with the current auto selection with no manual shift mode, there is no real point to display the selected position in the dash (other than nice to know) when its displayed on the shifter stick. But with the face lift 2011 model, there is a manual shift mode (some models) so knowing the gear you are in (1to 6) is a additional help to the rev counter when you want to manually shift up or down. Will help stop you from trying to find another gear when already in 6!

  8. Yes, I would also like to remove this stupid feature. Do they think that people are stupid enough to have there head in the way when its closing.

Same goes for the windows, why is only the drivers window a one touch operation? In Europe, I had a Ford Mondeo with one touch on all four windows and pressure sensing so if anything is in the way (like your head!), it will go back down. Could also open and close all the windows from the ignition key button and this was not the top line model.

  9. Been a long wait and still have yet to receive it!. Its in the country and am picking it up next week and cant wait!. I shall post a pic on here when i get it and let you know my thoughts.

For sure the interior of the current Edge is a little bland, will help to have inbuilt Nav screen but the drive and handling is very good for a vehicle and great in Canadian winter. As a matter of interest, what changes have you needed to make it legal in the UK as I am thinking to take mine back to Europe next year.

  10. I have corrosion on the alloy "lip" of my Edge's wheels. The chrome clad is "not" affected.

I have 37,500 miles on it. The lease will end in Sept. 2010 (i have paid in advance for extra miles).

Is this corrosion considered normal wear and tear?

Same on mine and they have a new set waiting for me at the dealer, which I will pick up on Friday, already fitted with my winter tyres. Covered on warranty and new part since Sept 08. Hopefully the new wheel supplier has done a better job.

  11. I couldn't find any instructions on how to pull the rear tail light assemblies. So, here are some.

Mine is a 2007 Edge, but the newer ones are the same.

    Tools needed;

    5/16 nut driver or ratchet

    silicone spray

    3" PLASTIC putty knife

    • For the sake of this discussion, we are working on the RIGHT taillight, the passenger side.
    • Open the hatch back.
    • Look on the left edge of the tail light assembly, under where the hatchback closes.
    • Find the two 5/16 screws.
    • Remove them.
    • Get out your plastic putty knife.
    • Insert it between the body panel and the light, in the FRONT edge of the light assembly.
    • Insert it in the center, vertically. There is a pin at the top and a pin at the bottom (that you cannot see) and you want to get it inserted in between these pins.
    • It should insert easily.
    • Insert the putty knife about 1 - 2 inches.
    • Now, position yourself directly behind the light.
    • Grab the left side of the module (where the two screws were) with your left hand.
    • Grab the putty knife with your right hand.
    • Pull rearwards with both, with even pressure.
    • I had good luck with a gentle "tugging" motion on the putty knife.
    • Make sure you are well braced with good footing; when it releases you don't want to fall over and rip out the wiring harness or damage the light.
    • It will "POP" out and be sitting loosely in the light opening.
    • Replace whatever bulbs needed.
    • Spray the shiny silver metal pins that held the front into the body panel with silicone, to make it easier to pull them in the future.
    • I have seen suggestions to use wrapped screwdrivers, etc., but this method described worked extremely well. I pulled them both in about 1 minute.
    • In my vehicle, the signal light bases on the wiring harness were extremely discolored and looked like they were heat damaged. I don't know if this is a known issue or not.
    • Pictures coming soon.
    • Let me know if this helps you out, or if you have any questions.

I have had to replace bulbs on both sides now and I don't understand why they made it so difficult (can be hard to bull out straight and not scratch the f$%?*&" paint). In Europe we design them to be serviced from inside the trunk, just remove a panel (no tools necessary) and you can see the rear of the lamp "can be done on the side of a road without the need of any tools. This Edge is like cars in Europe were 20 years ago except much bigger!

  12. While washing my Edge this morning, I noticed some surface rust on the inside front corner of both rear doors. The area is where the external door metal is welded to the inside door metal about 2 inches in front of the door drain holes. It looks like water in this area has no where to go and can't drain to the plastic edging. Has anyone else seen this? I have my first oil change at the dealer next week (freeby) and thought it a good time to raise the issue.

    Thx,

    TL

I had the same issue on my Edge, both rear doors and hood catch, repaired under warranty and so far OK. I moved here from Finland and it is no wonder you have so much rust with all the salt you use. We dont bother with salt, good set of winter tires with studs works and you always know what the road surface is like, wont be wet until spring!
